I use to be up by 5 everyday and do qigong..or yoga..or just a walk or brief sprint.. I feel so much better about everything when I start my days like this..
I was doing qigong for awhile, too, it was amazing. It would give me so much energy. It's complicated why I stopped (partly, I got to a place where I needed guidance to go further and I wasn't sure how to seek out that guidance without paying a lot to someone and I didn't feel like it was something I should have to pay for) the other reason I was getting behind in my work because I was spending so much time doing qigong; I'm kind of an all or nothing kind of person.:-/ I subscribe to a qigong video website for $15 month. I intend to get back into it in the late fall and winter when I have less work and less good weather to ride my bike.

To make it even simpler, as we are such a goal driven society and people, just follow your in breath, then your out breath as it's natural flow. breathe in deeply and naturally breath out as slowly as you can, over and over again. In out etc. Your thoughts will wander, you will notice and then go back to noticing your natural breathing; that's your focus. You may feel intense feelings but they aren't impermanent, always changing, coming and going. Just focus on your breath. Notice your body. I started meditating for 10 minutes and have built up to 55 minutes. I've reached states FYI I, again, started with 10 minutes, then to 20, then to 30 (mostly walking meditation, then some sitting). Then to 40 and 45 mins and it always seem like the time flies by. When I increased it to 55 minutes last week, I was blown away and so relaxed. My BP at the Dr's office was 106/64. The positive affects and energies are countless. Enough said. Good luck!

I listened all the way through anyway because I definitely need motivation to use these wee hours of unintended waking more constructively. The problem is that starting my day from here and being chronically sleep deprived feels unsustainable. Further, if I unintentionally wake up (as has been happening woefully often), I find I’m almost instantly in beta mode with racing thoughts. If I wasn’t wrestling with whatever this nighttime brainwave pattern is, I’d still be asleep-getting the restoration my brain and body need to overcome this chronic dysregulation. Feels like a catch-22 and it’s frustrating. AND, I’ve tried over and over to figure out the specifics of what I want to experience in my life. I know HOW I want to feel, but I struggle to get clear on the circumstances/environment/creations that most light me up to visualize. I can’t mentally rehearse what I can’t imagine (which itself is a “playing small and safe” tactic, I’m aware. Sigh.)

To make it even simpler, as we are such a goal driven society and people, just follow your in breath, then your out breath as it's natural flow. breathe in deeply and naturally breath out as slowly as you can, over and over again. In out etc. Your thoughts will wander, you will notice and then go back to noticing your natural breathing; that's your focus. You may feel intense feelings but they aren't impermanent, always changing, coming and going. Just focus on your breath. Notice your body. I started meditating for 10 minutes and have built up to 55 minutes. I've reached states FYI I, again, started with 10 minutes, then to 20, then to 30 (mostly walking meditation, then some sitting). Then to 40 and 45 mins and it always seem like the time flies by. When I increased it to 55 minutes last week, I was blown away and so relaxed. My BP at the Dr's office was 106/64. The positive affects and energies are countless. Enough said. Good luck!

Meditation also puts me to sleep. It's amazing how much mental effort it takes and how boring it is!!.. Which is entirely the point.

Alternative take: 3m - 5am is when the lungs are very active. Most overnight ER visits for asthma are between 3-5am.
Waking up at 2 am to 4 am is a sign of high cortisol too, the stress hormone
Also many menopausal wake up at this hour

I love this part: Not an inconvenience but an opportunity. You have no idea how much I've been in 'trouble' throughout my life for not sleeping when others do. Carpe Diem (just starting a bit earlier) 🙂 1 - visualize your goals (song = I can see clearly now the rain is gone); 2 - move your bod (Robby Williams - Rock DJ - time to move your body!); 3 - new stuff (Interesting things you did not know, history, science, world news(and then the news of the common man actually living in that world, opposed to the headlines sold) to the market), music theory just for the heck of it..(song New Start Fever by You Me at Six).

Between 3 and 5 am is the best time for playing my guitar and creating my artwork, and yes a great time for meditation. Art and music are a form of meditation and l love that quite time when everyone else is asleep. Problem is, how do l incorporate my own sleep? I am retired but still have busy days.

This is excellent advice.
Some comments:
- I try to go to bed at around 10pm, so I will have enough sleep, even though I am awake between 3 & 5.
- Sometimes I stay awake until I will get up at around 7am. This happens when I write articles that are so interesting for me, that I just continue with the flow
- The evolutionary reason behind these “early bird activities” may have been: a) to have sex (more offspring and bonding with your female(s) b) preparing your tools for hunting & fighting c) mentally preparing for your daily tasks, putting yourself mentally in the situation and living being that you will meet during your tasks
- this advice is for the strong people, i.e. mainly for men. It applies to women who need or want to play an active (male) role. It doesn’t apply to men who are weak and passive.
- while I am interested in quantum mechanics and quantum physics, the quantum effects are cancelled out by the fact (?) that about 40 or more orders of magnitude lie between a single quantum particle and the human reality.
- In fact, I am writing this comment at 5am…

I listened all the way through anyway because I definitely need motivation to use these wee hours of unintended waking more constructively. The problem is that starting my day from here and being chronically sleep deprived feels unsustainable.
Further, if I unintentionally wake up (as has been happening woefully often), I find I’m almost instantly in beta mode with racing thoughts. If I wasn’t wrestling with whatever this nighttime brainwave pattern is, I’d still be asleep-getting the restoration my brain and body need to overcome this chronic dysregulation. Feels like a catch-22 and it’s frustrating.
AND, I’ve tried over and over to figure out the specifics of what I want to experience in my life. I know HOW I want to feel, but I struggle to get clear on the circumstances/environment/creations that most light me up to visualize. I can’t mentally rehearse what I can’t imagine (which itself is a “playing small and safe” tactic, I’m aware. Sigh.)

When I wake up at 3 am, I'm not looking to spend the next two hours meditating, stretching & educating. My sole interest at that moment is to clear my bladder and go back to sleep for the second half of my typically 7 hour bed time. I am willing to consider trying this starting at 7 am.

I just turned 49, our government, healthcare and inflation are a shit show. I, personally need to feel like I have a say in the things that are going on in my life. I have some goals to want to hit before 50 and others I want to set into motion.
Meditation is free. Online yoga classes are free. Educational videos are free. Our collective consciousness and even our class consciousness can benefit so much from things that cost virtually nothing. It’s up to the individual to decide what they’re ready for.
There’s literally nothing better to do (and I mean nothing) than to take an hour or so and work toward having more agency in your life.

this may be an unfair taking of joe dispenza s platform but i support the practice at 3 am if you wake up then for programming our brain because that’s the time Theta waves associated with implicit learning, 2:16 information processing, and making memories are present. dr. bruce lipton says during the day in beta wave activity most of our thoughts come from subconscious thats usually negative programming handed down to us
