When I was in grade school in Mexico we had to use pencil cases.. i hated then as well, I love them now.. hahaha Best way to carry my pencils without breaking the tips.

My calligraphy classmates and I do use pliers for nib removal. Needlenose pliers are best, I find. If you ever get into using oblique pen holders, you might check out the specially designed pliers from Yoke Pen Co. to adjust the flange for different nibs.

I have one of those little stands too they are amazing for your phone or iPod but too small for a tablet however they work to well if you put two together for a larger screen.
