    What is/was your major at university? If you're not at college yet, what do you want to major in?

      Creative Writing, which was a hard program to find at the time, especially with a writing for children focus. My degree is a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing (WLP) from Emerson College.

    Awesome video! I'm about to start an MA English after finishing a BsC Business Managemet and you've given me a lot of ideas on how I could combine these 2 degrees for future jobs. Thank you!

    I love the four concentrations at your university! :P

    • @AngelaAnne
      @AngelaAnne  3 года назад +1

      Yes ikr! It was such a smart way to divide up the concentrations and people could have more than one concentration if they wanted to

      @@AngelaAnne Haha Angela watch that part of the video again! :P But I do like that idea. I did a professional writing concentration in my degree!

    Also, not all STEM and business degrees are marketable.

  • @pranavpillai7778
    @pranavpillai7778 2 года назад +3

    Liberal arts degrees are fine if you have minors, certifications, licenses, and/or graduate degrees in marketable areas of study. This can get you into banking, consulting, finance, IT, law, management, HR, and much more. I’m in a similar major Poli Sci. No degree is useless if you have a plan. More than anything a liberal arts education gives you a foundation which other degrees don’t give you.

    • @AngelaAnne
      @AngelaAnne  2 года назад +1

      Yes exactly! liberal arts degrees are great!

    • @pranavpillai7778
      @pranavpillai7778 2 года назад

      @@AngelaAnne yes I agree. But it seems sad how they get a bad rap. Vocational degrees like computer science and accounting lack the soft skills needed to navigate the workforce. No "practical" degree teaches the same soft skills as a liberal arts degree does.

    My major in College is Child and Family Development. I love being a caregiver to children and I'm happy that I have a job in my major. I wish I would have picked a English minor or taken more English classes. I've always loved English in school.
    Thanks for sharing your tips and story!

    I mean, I'm not worried about unempyment, I'm 27 and am wanting to get my BA/MAT, I've loved English language arts since I was 14, loved poetry and reading, I've always wanted to be a writer. I a interested I creative non fiction writing (which is more for textbooks or things like grant writing) I've considered just getting my associates in health information technology, or an associates degree in early childhood education, but I can pursue all degrees specifically online cause I am a working adult. I'd love to study at Elon university (it's one of the colleges I've considered plus I have family in NC and it's beautiful) or I'd love to study in Chicago and live in a big city but I can't cause I'm married and we bought our starter home here in Nebraska and it would be hard for my husband to find jobs in his field cause he doesn't have a degree and works in the security field.

    I'm currently a creative writing major! Though in my school, the creative writing major is separate from the english major. "Creative Writing" is the general name of the major but you have the choice to go the Fiction route or the Poetry route. I'm doing the fiction route but I really like the poetry classes.

    Its so interesting because i told my family i was thinking of going into an English major, and as a 22 year old lady who is halfway through my associates, hearing my dad say, "Why waste your money on something you cant use in a job?" Was really dis-heartening. And so, i took to the internet to see if he was right and i am glad to say that i have found he is WRONG!!
    Funnily enough, i would LOVE to be an English professor but as far as i understand right out of school it isnt very highly paid-- though i think thats all right becaude i would also love to be a freelance writer. I feel that an English major with creative writing minor would give me the technical skills i am missing. My writing is OKAY but i need it to be better to be competative in the wolrd of writing. 😁

    other than creative writing where human brains are necessary i wonder how much job options are really out there . Coz due to computer technology and artificial intellegence many things can be done with technology itself.

    Sadly, that there is no free education, but indeed you have a really great opportunity to major in English, already having masters in other field. No matter how good you are in English, you must to pay and that's how things work.
