I been waiting for this video about soldering jumprings.
Fantastic! So glad this was helpful. Are there any other video topics you're waiting on?
well I always wanted to know how to make multiple row elastic bracelets made from seed bead
Thanks! We'll pass that along to our video studio.
Jewellery Chain Making
Can you use this same technique with Argentium jump rings to forgo the oxidation? I made a rosary and need to solder the jumprings. But I don think I should put it in pickle as the beads are ruby and fresh water pearls. thanks in advance.
Hello. We're not sure. We haven't experimented with that method.
Can I use the same things for a 9k or 14k gold loop?
That's a good question! Our designers have never explored the world of hot connections in karat gold since gold is very soft and takes extreme care. You might reach out to a goldsmith or research online.
are you working with a sterling silver jump ring?
Those are indeed sterling silver.
I know this I very late to the post, but if youre still maintaining this channel, id like to ask a question.
I have a st2200-t mini torch and medium silver paste. Im trying to solder my jump rings, but can't get it to flow. Any suggestions?
Hello. You want to make sure your torch is getting hot enough for the paste to flow. Refer to your paste information. You might also have some oils on the metal from your fingers which isn't allowing it to flow.
What material was the jump ring stainless steel, sterling silver, aluminum ? Is the process the same for all three ?
Chris used sterling silver jump rings in this demonstration as he used sterling silver solder paste. The process is the same, however, when soldering stainless steel you should not use normal soldering flux. You will need a high activity acid flux because of the amount oxides on the surface of stainless steel. Also, silver solder does not work on aluminum.
Is this flux paste good for stainless steel jump rings as well or a different one is used?
Hi Iris. Stainless steel jump rings are easily soldered, using easy silver solder, but there would be cleaning up to do as the heat would turn the ring an unsightly dark color.
Thank you very much for your reply, like to know if there is a flux I can use for stainless steel jewelry that does not require any cleaning?
Does this matter if it’s silver or stainless steel?
We wouldn't recommend using the paste on stainless steel. You'll need a high activity acid flux for stainless steel.
Can you use this on stainless steel or will the heat ruin the color of the stainless steel? Is is pure silver that is used in the video?
This solder paste is specific to precious metals. We wouldn't recommend using it when soldering stainless steel. When soldering stainless steel, you'll want to be sure to have an acid-based flux specifically manufactured for nickel and stainless steel.
@@FireMountainGems Thanks! Do you work with a specific one (brand) that you would recommend to me?
We're sorry, but we don't. There is probably a ton of information on the pros and cons of the different brands online that might help you decide which is best for you.
What is the brand of solder paste you are using?
The brand Chris is using in the video is Grobet. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Can i use same materials for gold filled n gold plated jewelry
Hello. No, gold-filled and gold-plated cannot be soldered.
@@FireMountainGems hi im planning to make gold filled jewelry.. what do i do to properly close to jump rings
This video is good but it could be great if he continued right to the point of when its a finished product. Meaning ready to apply and sell type of finishing. It left me with the question of..does it need to be filed down?. How does the solder hold up if it was antiqued with a product with lets say, liver of sulfer Etc?
That's a great suggestion! We will pass this along to our video team as feedback. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I used some paste and it burnt out? What did I do wrong
Hi there. First you want to make sure you're using paste with flux. If it doesn't have flux then it won't join properly. Second, make sure that when you apply the solder paste, you are applying a small thin film to the entire seam. This will ensure that you have
flux on the entire seam and maximize your chances of preventing
burn off. Hope that helps.
Fire Mountain Gems and Beads the paste has flux in, the only thing I can ring is the changing isn’t clean enough as it was previously oxidized
What under the fire bick
Hi Maxine! Directly under the fire brick is this silicone pad: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h203694tl
At Farrier's school, the instructor made the male students shave. Beards are flammable too.
Chris is aware of the danger. He feels he's more in control of the hair on his face than the hair draped on his shoulders.
