Unfortunately it never would have worked if he didn't burn it that way. It's been the same from Robert Johnson, Elvis, Cobain, etc. I wish he made it longer and am thankful we got to experience his art, heart, and soul. Thanks Justin! RIP.
Steve must've been sitting there in complete awe of the way his little boy commanded his craft. Talk about the proudest father. It's heartbreaking to think about the pain he must feel now. No parent should ever have to bury their child.

Besides, wtf do you think you can tell me to not comment? Stfu
@@sinsinnomore5555 who cares what his best selling album is? and he did write about his son's death, in the song Last Words, which...i mean, given the circumstances, what else was there to say other than "i wish i could have been with you during your last moments, and i'm grateful i got to tell you that i love you one last time and hear it from you" Steve makes his records for him and him alone, and if any of us like em, then great.
I remember every show I was lucky enough to see of his. Sat up front for every one of them. If he was playing within an hour of me I was there. He was even better live. No studio trickery to his sound. Just pure raw talent. What you heard on the album you heard live. And his personality came out between songs. Talking with the crowd and heckling the hecklers. He always seemed so genuine. That is until that last show I seen. It was in Asheville nc shortly before he passed. He seemed different. Angry. Wasn’t the same person from the other shows. He made comments about how expensive his clothes were and talked with venom about the mainstream country audience. I remember leaving that show saddened thinking he’s back on the shit and hoping he had some family or someone close that would be there for him. A year before that in the same town I got a picture with him. He was hanging out front of the venue spending time with the fans before the show. He seemed genuinely happy to stand for a picture and I’m gutted every time I see that come up in my memories. He was one of the greats and it’s a shame more people don’t know what was lost the day he passed.
Thinking of Justin on his 40th birthday. Wish there had been 40 more. Love this gem of a song. My only critique of it is that he fails to mention that a champagne corolla won’t show dirt. ❤️
Take care Justin Townes Earle family and friends and Steve.. thoughts are with you and sending love ♥ to you all. Thanks for the music and Rest In Peace Justin ♥
That's an awesome little Dirty Thirty there that he is playing! Just goes to show, you don't have to spent thousands of dollars on a "blues box" axe, when a Recording King and a good soundhole pickup does the job !
I had a beater acoustic once that drove me up the wall and I just couldn’t get it to sound anywhere near decent. I met a guy once at a party we had and he said “Hey, mind if I pick that”? I said “yea go ahead and good luck”. He flipped it left hand so it was strung upside down to him and played the living shit out of it. People immediately started dancing and cheering him on for another one, he was a natural. Songs flowed out like river water and he had a great voice. I asked what he was playing and he said “I don’t know, just some trash talkin’ surfabilly crap I make up. They aren’t really songs. Might be a little Dick Dale or Davey Allen in there I borrowed too.” You’re 100% correct. If you got it, you got it.
What a great video for us guitarists who like playing his stuff. I was always a big fan of his father and only discovered him a couple of years ago, just after he died. What a waste man.
GREAT SONG JTE< RIP, OUR CONDOLSENCE TO STEVE, AND FAMILY. It was so nice him and Steve got too become son and father. Steve surely will be devastated.
A true talent. Born to it. Damn shame we lost him so soon. You could see in this video he was unhappy. Makes me sad to hear his songs knowing he was almost always struggling with his demons. I have three sons. One did 5 years in the US Army as an MP. Came out and got his degree using the GI Bill. Working for the city in IT now. One got an Engineering Degree from Purdue University. Making more than me or his mother ever did, or ever will. And the middle one can't stay off the streets, unless he's in jail, and can't kick the needle. Breaks my fucking heart.
I hear so much greatness .. obviously there is his old mans influence , but I hear some Jim Croce , Buddy Holly . What an immense lost for all our souls . God Bless JTE
I loved JTE ability to adapt his songs to solo and band situations. The acoustic version doesn't loose any fire because of his very percussive unique finger style technique. Thanks for the music sir rest easy and we will be enjoying the fruits of your labor for a long long time.
I'm a little late to the party but it looks like all he's doing is strumming the bottom two (sometimes three when he goes up a string) with his thumb and index finger and then muting the rest with his left hand. The basic outline seems to be: down with thumb up with index down with all fingers (upper strings muted) up with all fingers (upper strings muted)
@@Diggzist its called "drumming" on guitar. Rockabilly bassists do a similar thing. Yoyre emphasizing the up and downbeat. It's an old Welsh guitar style
