This dude put out great and incredibly honest music. He and his talent will be missed greatly especially in the music community. Such a rare thing to see an acoustic performance be so captivating and entertaining. Many thanks to him and his commitment to the music he wrote and performed.
Hard to believe I posted this comment 10 years ago! A few years later, I saw JTE at Fitzgerald's in Houston before it was torn down. His music will always live on with me.
Well I got this woman, She don't treat me right She just stay out drinkin' 'Til the mornin' light Say now bye bye baby, Wherever you may be Oh, you got them other men I don't know what you need with me So I went to the station And I got on the train Told the conductor "Get this thing a'movin' man!" Say now bye bye baby, Wherever you may be Oh, you got them other men I don't know what you need with me So now here I go Down these railroad tracks They lead down to Memphis And ain't comin' back Say now bye bye baby, Wherever you may be Well, you got them other men I don't know what you need with me Say, with you, honey I can finally relax Well, it sure feels good To not have you up on my back Say now, bye bye baby, Wherever you may be Well, you got them other men I don't know what you need with me I say now bye bye baby, Wherever you are Oh, and I'm halfway to Jackson mama, And I ain't missin' you so far
Wholly shit, awesome song, great performance. you know why they are all stand there, its in awe because they dont realize greatness when they see it. Looks like they have all been contaminated by the over produced crap we call music today.
Justin Townes Earle was in Milwaukee recently and contrary to some of places mentioned in the comments below we were dancing here in Milwaukee. he did a fantastic show!
how the hell did i just find out about this man i have loved steve earle and townes van zandt so long.... put alt country in search and found him??? he needs to have his own tv channel
so frikkin good, thankz for posting this man! 4 people got their head up their ass and cant really hear the music. must be one of the people in the crowd.....standing still......not nodding their heads.... ha
It's a modified version of what's referred to as Travis Picking. Plenty of tutorial videos on it. Except JTE only uses two fingers, if you can imagine that! Thumb alternates on two bass notes and the index hits the treble notes. I'm sure his unique style comes from hours and hours of practice. I've been trying to learn it for months and still can't get the rhythm right.
Wicked pickin' here for sure! Shades of Doc Watson, Chet Atkins...old school masters and major influences on pretty much all guitar pickers that have followed through the years (Doc left behind some excellent pickin' tutorials you can find here on RUclips). Love that JTE keeps the style and technique going in his own writing and playing...this tune makes me feel so damn happy. Yeah!
Didnt realize it, but that is a style been playing for years, thumb, and index, occasional middle finger...a form of Travis picking, and I guess banjo frailing style...I cant flat pick...but, this style, to me, seems a wonderful primative style...it is more physical style of playing...and really works one out...
This is my favorite song of his, although they are all perfect. Can anyone tell me the title of a song of his that says something about if the crops won't grow he has another girl to put out on the street?
there is really no way to tell what brand the hat is but as an avid hat wearer and amateur hatter I would say your best bet is a vintage Stetson Open Road or Stetson Stratoliner, there are others that look like his but those would be the easiest to search for and find on eBay, check out the online forum "The Fedora Lounge" for everything you could ever hope to learn about hats.
Tragic loss, his star should have shined brighter
Rest in peace troubadour
may he rest in peace.
Amen
Amen
He was on a different level.
"..But it could be that the good Lord, likes a little picking too.." -Tom T. Hall.
RIP 🍻

Well said,...
I've been watching this video for 11 years. One of the very best picking and overall performances ever. Feels like the first time, every time I watch.
That audience does not appreciate what this man is doing
It's fine their kids'll love it
I love this man, he's the real deal.
Awesome...sounds like a Sun Record from back in the day.....genius.
He loved music, obviously. What a toe tappin' performance. Excellent voice and guitar player. Gone too Soon, R.I.P.
Like others, I can't believe the crowd isn't moving even a little bit. This is prime!

It's a California audience. They didn't know what to think.
Too awesome and artistic to dance this. You need to see this with all your attention and soul
@@LexCountry This. If I were there, I would be too captivated to do anything but stare in wild wonder.
That boy can play!

Just discovered his music. Extremely talented! Gone to soon
Well I got this woman,

Told the conductor

Down these railroad tracks
They lead down to Memphis
And ain't comin' back
Say now bye bye baby,
Wherever you may be
Well, you got them other men
I don't know what you need with me
Say, with you, honey
I can finally relax
Well, it sure feels good
To not have you up on my back
Say now, bye bye baby,
Wherever you may be
Well, you got them other men
I don't know what you need with me
I say now bye bye baby,

@@rim0909 I'm not sure if this comment is supposed to be a joke or not.
I'm sad that I hadn't heard about this guy until seeing his passing posted on social media. Wish I could have supported during his living career.

would love to seen ol boy live. such a loss. RIP
Justin rocks!!!!
Scott Satterlee I take it this is Steve Earle's son and that he was named after Townes Van Zandt?
Andy McKinney yes that is correct. And him and his father do not get along. It is a very sour subject for him. Listen to Mama's Eyes.
R.i.p justin townes earle seen your father last year and was really hoping to see you live too :'(
Sad to see such a up and coming singer! God bless Steve and his family
Good stuff Otterbot! Thanks for turning me on to this !!!

To be a little more clear - it is Amoeba, a record store in Hollywood that does in-store mini-concerts for new releases.
Beautiful....
Rocking it ❤️

Brilliant!!!
How the heck is he doing that picking technique!? Awesome!!!!!

Fingers mostly
independent thumb movement...it'll give you worse than brain freeze...but it's worth the pain

actually the song is "Mama Said" and it came as an extra/bonus track on digital download of Harlem River Blues...
outstanding
Train time, I do believe.
Fucking genius
It just doesn't get better, maybe as good, I can't accept he's gone.
it came with the digital download with the vinyl version of the album...
How many likes can I give this?
I like the part from 0:01-3:37
@GemsOnVHS that's because HE WAS.... lol
This is my favorite song of his, although they are all perfect. Can anyone tell me the title of a song of his that says something about if the crops won't grow he has another girl to put out on the street?
Not so much on his voice, though it's OK. I'm just fascinated by his playing style. Amazing.
Y’all help me out here
There is some body else picking in the background??
This is a solo performance??
why is everybody just standing there??? I cant stop moving
Boy Keep Movin'
i just went to his concert in seattle and no one moved there either, west coast thing i guess
The Gibson hummingbird can't compete with what's going on in that room
What do you mean?
Halfway to Jackson is the name of this song....

It's an Akubra ...
Fred Neil 2012 (almost)
It's found under both names on RUclips. What source for the HRB? I got mine on Amazon and there is no bonus track.
That boys got the devil inside…. and thank god for that.

What a beautiful memory and beautiful legacy
Wow. Thank you Justin for blessing the world
The Sumner Brothers have just released their take on The Ghost of Tom Joad. Have a listen - ruclips.net/video/_qWZbMnP5Ok/видео.html
He looks like Dylan in the early days.

Why is no one dancing??
California crowd. They may see/hear the talent and won't admit it.
Haha.
Hard to dance when you are having an orgasm !!
