On the topic of ng+ cycles getting harder and harder and the devs not being able to test infinity. LobosJr did an "infinite ng+" run in Dark Souls 1 where a modder made a file that kept the ng+ cycles past ng7 scaling up by 6%(the amount already in game, just stopped at 7) He got to ng+18 before even the hollows in the Asylum were one shotting him, and he was adequately levelled and geared up. He had to cheat engine himself to ng+69 to get to his goal ng cycle after around 5, seven-hour streams at ng+19. At ng+69 even chip damage through shields is lethal.
The giant depraved one in the Valley of Defilement seems regularly sized, because the level designer deliberately made the hole behind him really big, and the bridges go from very small to extra large. It is sort of a forced perspective and it is really well done. One of the most subtle traps in the game.
Dude, please make videos like this one, it's such a unique way to do a let's play and you have such a great knowledge of games and ability to get it across that your perspective really stands for itself in your videos. I would definitely watch more of these.
oh btw. I think garl vinlands line "you abandoned us long ago" refers to everyone on the outside world, humanity, which cast all teir filth in the valley, all things unwanted, thrown away and not being given a second thought.
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 Unfortunately that's true of the rest of the series, in general. Matt talks about that in his Lost Soul Arts video which, in my opinion, is spot on in his assessments and it's the main reason that I've never been able to get into DS3. They clearly designed for difficulty instead of just using it to enhance the broader experience and dodge-rolling through varying strings of attacks with odd timings just isn't why I found the series interesting.
@@tarrickmerdev2324 I loved ds3 personally, so can't agree there. I don't think the remake sucks due to any ingoing trends in the series as a whole, its simply just that bluepoint diddnt understand the original and just updated things to be more in line with common dark fantasy tropes, often in a way that completely misses what the originals intentions actually were. Why it turned out that way I don't know, maybe miyazaki was too busy with new games to oversee the remake. My issues with the remake are more related to its atmosphere and less to do with gameplay changes. Stuff like the design change to the fat officials completely changes the feel they give from theses sneering figures who enjoy your suffering (which reflects their place in the story) compared to the remake where their appearance honestly makes them seem more like victims (completely flying in the face of what their actual role in the game is). To put simply the remake looks pretty, but the changes to the visual design make it feel like a far more generic fantasy world than the the original.
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502hey at least if you haven't played demon's souls on the ps3 you can play it now which is why I liked the remake because it is my first experience with demon's souls , the only thing I hate are the runbacks and the poison swap and the second level in stonefang because its enemies are boring and have too much health, but other than that I 'd say it is my fourth favourite behind ds1 and 3 and bb.
Watching this in 2024 as someone who is currently on their first ever play through of demon souls (playing the remake but honestly I wish I had the ps3 version i love the look) and i absolutely love the game, it’s my final souls game as I’ve played and beaten all the others but this one feels different, can’t quite put my finger on it but I’m enjoying it and I really enjoyed this video Edit: Yurt is one of the 13 squad captains of the soul society, his Bankai is called “NPC No More”
I remember seeing some promotional material for Demon Souls when it was in development about using messages to trick others so I'd say that you might be wrong about the "unintentional use". Considering the characterization of many of the NPCs and also the amount of traps, I'd say this was a forethought about morality among adventurers to get rid of the competition, so to speak, and it's brought back in the message system. Creating a rumor mill inside the game and such.
Plus Patches is the literal personification of the whole concept. In fact I’m pretty sure getting tricked by Patches was the catalyst that really kicked tricking other players into overdrive for the community.
I always thought the rain effect in Valley of Defilement was meant to be like a hazy rain. You know, when its raining but its so thin that you barely feel it, it just kind of makes you humid, and you cant see the raindrops clearly? Like halfway between a drizzle and fog?
Yeah, that's possible. I always thought of it as nasty water haze "rain" dripping down from the cave... or maybe the humidity is so high that it forms water droplets. Anyway... I imagine the valley of defilement to be extremely uncomfortable. It's wet, it stinks, it's hot and cold - depending on where you are, it's poisonous, and it's dangerous. Having that mist-type of rain would fit in such a location.
I just finished the game for the first time today and had the exact same impression. A sort of misty rain that just gives the air a very moist and kind of gross feel.
I just played through Demon's Souls (2009) for the first time in my life and imagine my happiness when I found out that there was a 2:40 long Matthewmatosis video waiting for me after all this years. 😍
The whole talk about the legendary big M was hilarious. I mean I'd like to believe that he IS canon and he IS real (in game), but everytime I think about it I just have this nagging feeling that it's just a dumb joke. Legendary Big M = Miyazaki
I was just thinking, what is wrong with me. Why watch such a long video more than once? But then I just now realized that such a long video is bound to have some things I forget, and it's worth a rewatch. I may not always agree with Matthew, but I enjoy his critiques and he has genuinely won me over on some issues, in fact sometimes not until the second watch through.
I've watched this and his 6+ hour Dark Souls commentary a few times now, and I only watched them for the first time this past spring. That's when I finally clicked with the Soulsborne titles, the crack itch is real... He and that Hawkshaw guy should do a video together on Souls Lore/mechanics, they are both masters of the trade.

I've been re-watching this video since it had like 500 views. Back then I always wondered when people would finally recognize Matt as one of the best critics on youtube. The Bioshock Infinite critique and especially the Dark Souls 2 critique seem to have been his breakthrough videos where he was finally able to pull in a bigger audience. Well deserved, in my opinion.

Just wanted to watch the first 10 minutes and ended up watching 1 hr and 30 mins and still would have finished the whole thing if it wasn't for my early dates tomorrow morning.
I'll watch this video a hundred more times for this exact purpose. Don't get me wrong I love the actual content of Matt's videos too though. He's just too damn relaxing and the videos are the perfect length where by the time it's over I've usually rolled over and paused since I'm already mostly asleep. Or just dead in REM sleep and I let the next 5-15 related videos play and wake up to some random shit lol.
The Old Monk portion of this video is fucking hilarious. A+, good sir. Amazing video you've made here, and I commend you for it. I honestly cannot wait until your Dark Souls Commentary video gets released.
I totally agree with your opinion on invasion etiquette. My most memorable PVP moments throughout the entire series were from people who refused to bow, used estus and other frowned-upon tactics, and just overall really wanted to win. It felt a lot more genuine and tense than meeting someone at the popular PvP spots and being polite to people.
I watched this as a freshman in high school when it first dropped. Now ten years later and I’m under the Coronado bridge on my hands and knees watching this same exact video while also making a quick buck. God I love life.
The giant depraved one thing seems to be done with a neat trick that messes with your eyes. The hole in the wall looks smaller than it actually is because it's far away, and the depraved one fits perfectly in that small hole in the wall, it already looks smaller than it is because of it being far away, but the way it fits in the hole probably messes with you as well, giving off the illusion that it's normally sized. This is all speculation, though, I don't know dick about the technical side of optical illusions.
I thought the depraved was big, because from across the bridge, he's about as large as your character. Which shouldn't be the case, cause you see the regular depraved from a distance and they're considerably smaller. Then again I work as an artist, so perhaps I'm more likely to notice these discrepancies. It was very surprising to me that Matthew even brought it up, since to me, it was so intuitive that the depraved was bigger.

1:01:56 if you listen to the Fool's Idol boss fight music it's not "doubling," it's using increasingly short notes (include triplets) to simulate the feeling of speeding up without actually increasing the tempo. But this is why I like Matt, because his point about the music mimicking the behavior of the boss is correct, regardless of whether he knows his music terminology.
One thing I would like to add about Demon's Souls is its atmosphere compared to Dark Souls. In Dark Souls, it's very much drab, bleak, and depressing the whole way through. Even Anor Londo has this going on, since the place is completely empty and dead. Demon's souls, on the other hand, has this feeling of the ethereal and otherworldly. I think Miyazaki aimed to make it more fitting with the "souls" than anything else. After all, you're just some ghost in Boletaria, trying to escape purgatory.
Andrew Yabrifa No, I'm not saying that. It's just that it does different things. To be honest, I personally like Dark Souls better due to its tight world design and improved combat. Not to mention, world tendencies feel a little unnecessary at times.
I'm not big into remasters, but I'd love to see a PS4 re-release at 1080p/60fps. Great video, man; I'm really looking forward to the Dark Souls one coming out soon! EDIT: I'll take a full remake on PS5 though! Hopefully it eventually comes to PC too.
DrearierSpider1 I totally agree, there are a lot of games that don't really need a remaster of sorts but Demon Souls is a game that I would gladly buy for ps4.
me In addition to the cut archstone, they'd really need to add the quality of life improvements they introduced in Dark Souls (ladder sliding, drop attacks, jumping, etc.)
MrDylanHM I feel your pain, I'm mainly a PC gamer myself. Went out and bought a PS4 for Bloodborne, and love most things about it besides the 30 fps and load times :(
This is probably my favorite Souls game. Not sure why but something about it really blew me away when I got it. I remember being with a buddy and randomly picking the game up when it came out (it was released here in the States with very little fanfare) and we proceeded to play it for like 5 hours straight. Man it took me FOREVER to beat this for the first time...probably around 80 hours. I find myself coming back to this one even over Dark Souls. The Valley of Defilement is my favorite area in the game and the Maiden Astraea section was quite a powerful moment. The section with the huge swamp was awesome and terrified the crap out of me the first time I went through it. Cool video man. I wish more folks would give the series a shot.
@tudormiron15 Sweeping attacks are for preventing players from dodging by running to the side. If a game wants to force the player to dodge or run away to avoid the attack, they should make a sweeping attack. Not an overhead attack which has the enemies spin like they’re on a record play. Soulsborne games were better when they adhered to the laws of physics, as that made the game rewarding for interpreting the moves in a logical way, as well as more immersive.
In the intro, despite not being canonical with Dark Souls, Demon's souls is the only game to offer an explanation as to the 'souls as currency//leveling up' and the 'fog doors'.
@WinnieTheGrizzly Yes there is, i'll probably cover everything in a few weeks or months in video form. But the short answer is in Dark Souls, the fog gates are *usually * the souls of those who died to that boss monster/area, including other players from separate worlds.
@@adamiadamiadami The key point you glossed over being that Demon's Souls actively gives an explanation, whereas not only does Dark Souls not do this, you're very clearly making reference to a fan theory.

Thought you might like to know - the first dragon that protects the bridge in the second part of Boletaria, you can actually attack it with melee. If you stand in a specific spot where the dragon just first starts to flame the bridge, you can attack it from underneath. It's tricky to figure out the right spot but once you do, you can continue to attack up at the dragon and kill it a bit quicker.
56:28 - (regarding invincibility frames on rolls) "They're a core aspect of Demon's Souls, but they don't necessarily have to be" Someone should tell FromSoft, I think they've forgotten this tidbit.
@@DiegoStClair-wz5xj the combat system doesn't even have to change that much, just some new mechanics and some tweaks. I feel the combat system is satisfying and has hit a good stride with the player base.
@@wuwei473 I personally prefer the s dodge gameplay type mechanics, which is probably why I disliked Dark Souls 2 so much with the adapt thing. Especially in combination with the camera and lock on system, so I do sympathize when a game completely ignores a playstyle Since besides Elden Ring & Demon Souls I haven't felt compelled to use shields. In Dark Souls 1 & 3 I would only use shields for the buff or really bad parry attempt, but it wasn't needed, and sometimes was more a liability than an asset. Sadly I think the only realistic direction for Elden ring is going to make it so shields & stamina management is less required, if not altogether replaced by something more similar to Bloodborne & Sekiro.
Just finished watching through this video, and it's doubled as my first watch of a full Demon's Souls playthrough as well, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Really fascinating to see a game that spawned such an iconic series be structured, designed, and laid out so much differently that the games that followed it. The actual tangibility given to Boletaria in general vs. Lordran's "time/space is distorted," the demon's souls being semi-defined as currency/powr, and the use of an "old one" well before Bloodborne was conceptualized was a highly unexpected real breath of fresh air. As always your points and comments about game design are things that resonate with me a lot, whether I agree with them or not. I also just have to point out how much I loved your Old Monk bit as the capstone to your melee > magic running gag, all of that was just pure comedy gold and had me in stitches. Honourable mention going to the Dragon God bit about living on the edge and not playing by Miyazaki's "rules" followed promptly by a roasting. My only point of contention was an almost total lack of the Nexus being shown in the video, as well as dialogue with NPCs, but those are both things that I can easily accept as both "not in the scope of this playthrough" and "reasons to play the damn game myself." Well done! Moving on to your Dark Souls one now.
Wanted to watch this 10 years ago but I hadn't played the game so I figured I'd wait till i had. Just beat the game yesterday and finally am watchin this!! been a long time coming lol
Can't agree with monster Hunter that shit is a spongefest but Dragons Dogma was getting there but it isn't balanced. You either climb up and annihilate it or you don't. Ds1 and DS2 dlcs did them the best out of all the games I've played so far. Well Sekiro had a dope dragon fifht as well
@@blankblank1257 Well kinda makes sense that a giant dragon won't die from 2 or 3 sword strikes and especially if you look at monster like fatalis and what not, and MH is all about boss fights , hunting them down and geting better at fighting them. At first it might take you 15 minutes to kill some of the monster but eventuly you will bw able to do it 5 minutes. It's really fun if you stick to it even in single player but i understand that it isn't for everyone. Dragons dogma is among the best games ever though, so atleast we can all agree on this.
for the best dragon fights in games are from dragon's dogma and dragon age inquisition, specially inquisition i found the battles there more balanced, in DD if you have a strider or ranger is really easy ti just melt the dragons in a few 5 fold or 10 fold arrows
I really like how you approached many of the levels from the eyes of a first time player, while generally taking on the bosses at your best. It just goes to show how each level is really a long lesson before a test of all the player's skills. I really love this interpretation of the souls series. Thank you!

One tip about quitting and reloading your game is to just pick the load save file option from the menu, then select the file you’re currently playing. It saves sitting through a second load screen and makes the sparkles trades much more bearable. Also thanks for the in depth look! Demons souls is my favourite game of all time and it’s always great to see someone else’s perspective on it.
You know, after hearing that the PS5-Remake will have False King Alant's armor set as an exclusive pre-order bonus, dusting off the old PS3 and just playing the original sounds so much more tempting...
I just watched this video in its entirety in between work and was digesting your points by osmosis in a way and I found it to be an excellent listen. I won't focus on one of your many points but I found much of what you said applicable to a wide variety of games - I've found a degree of respect for DS's development team and the individual you mentioned (I forget his name) who had the philosophy you commented on. His attitudes to the unintended shortcut and the predicament with the cars were actually something that were brilliant to transition to a game.
Oh my god. I had no idea you could climb the wall to get the thief's ring. I always just sprinted from the stairs onto the wall and then just dropped down.
"So you really have two choices: you can either take defeat gracefully, or you can just invade the same person again... So i've invaded here again just to demonstrate some things-". Your sense of humor is so awesome on these videos lol it's subtle but it always cracks me up!
Wonderful video. I love the "guided tour" approach rather than going for a straight playthrough...cuts out all the repetition and boring bits. Your commentary is insightful and interesting as well.
I agree whole-heartidly on the stamina bar and balance being the biggest asset of the Souls games. A lot of these additions and small touches went right over my head when I played Demon's souls. I was somewhat anxious about the game as a whole, and everything seemed so daunting at the time. I think the game becomes extra frustrating for less than skilled players, because of how it punishes you in loss of souls, loss of full HP, loss of used ressources etc. Although I don't feel the same now, at the time almost anything in the game just filled me with dread, and at the same time the will to proceed further despite what seemed like horrors at the time. I don't know why I felt like the game was so difficult, i see now that alhough it's difficult it isn't the mountin I used to think of it as. Other things that were weird for me to get used to were the cryptic info in all aspects (weapons-ugrade and utilization, story...), the very notion that you could hurt an NPC (accidently or not) and they'd be after you among several other things that were hard to initially wrap your head around. Demon's souls is a pretty interesting game with a lot of great aspects imo, I guess I simply didn't have the capacity to understand the better parts about the game first times I played it (I migh've been too young at the time).
People often wonder why Demon's Souls is my favourite game in the souls series, and I usually have a hard time articulating why. This video puts it in pretty good terms, however.
This is such an amazing video. You do such a good job capturing the magic that demon souls has. You’ve encouraged me to start playing it again and it was climbed into one of my favorite from soft games. Thank you
Latria will always be my favourite location out of all the soulsborne games. Also I wished I played this when the servers were still active before the shutdown.
I don't know if anyone else has thought of this but I find the Adjudicator might have some links to eastern mythology. Considering the heavy references to eastern weapons and Satsuki, the Adjudicator has a blade in it's stomach like a samurai committing seppuku. When the Adjudicator falls down also goes into prostration position, a samurai position showing submission. Just a thought.
Demon's Souls remake/remaster would be nice. Tidy up the WT system, maybe add some cut content like the 6th archstone, fix drop rates and guarantee one of each through fixed method per playthrough and mildly revamp summoning. I say mildly because they will more than likely include password matching retroactively for better or worse. New Game+ scaling also needs serious work.
all they'd really need to do to satisfy me is touch up the grafix, the game can be really hard to look at sometimes with all the aliasing and I'd rather have Bloodborne's CA over the shitty DoF this game uses. The fucking loading screens too, they're way too long.
It was made 6 years before Bloodborne and was one of the earliest PS3 games period. The "grafix" are fine for their time. You sound 10 years old and woefully unaware of basic information about the game
I've watched so many gaming commentaries. Matthew produces the most astute, insightful assessments of so many facets of the game, more so than I've seen with any content creator out there.
This is a game that's deserving of a remake/remaster. It's a shame the 6th world was cut, redoing the content for that would be a huge selling point for returning Demon's Souls fans.
31:00 If you're looking for good dragon fights, play Dragon's Dogma. That game does dragon fights and large enemy fights in general spectacularly well.
***** StopChanging YT I personally prefer DaS to DeS, more polished and consistent art style, more interesting enigmatic story that sticks strongly to a central theme, refined gameplay mechanics, fantastic open world that expands upon the intricate level design seen in DeS. I also very much enjoyes DaS2 but it's definitely the weakest in the series. That said, the DLC areas are fantastic and probably my favourite areas across the series, rich with atmosphere too.
Jonnjon DaS 2 has such FLAT lighting. Holy heck every place looks so samey with the junk lighting, DeS and DaS 1 both have much nicer, more varied looking environments just cause of that.
I think overall the revised item locations and enemy layouts are a big improvement over the vanilla game, actually. The graphics don't seem like much improvement, at least compared to the original PC version, but the changed up items and enemies made it pretty cool, and I didn't have any of the dlc before, so it was worth it for me.
Shrine of Storms isn't medieval, it is pre-medieval, possibly middle-eastern or slavic. There are no dragons, knights and priests in there. The ancient burial ground populated with dead barbarian warriors and old pagan gods. And crows.
@RUBY DA CHERRY noop9k does have a point though. It is ancient from even the time period of Demon's Souls. You also have a point as well. But, maybe the medieval weaponry there is from adventurers traveling the ruins (shrine) and getting killed? That is my guess. I am simply saying both of you have a point. (This last paragraph is directed toward the original commenter): Also, this is a commentary. I am sure there are plenty of other slip-ups in this video (if this even can be considered a slip-up). Still an amazing commentary in my opinion.
I know this is really late but the medieval period of history (from the 5th to 15th century) was in fact global. Shrine of storms does not have a middle Eastern aesthetic as the were not building castles and keeps in the same way Europe did. From an architectural standpoint it's very medieval. Very little about this area suggests the east. Also dragons are fictional and your idea of "medieval" is dungeons and dragons. Barbarians and pagans are a very western.
I believe that the legendary big M is a nod to the creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki. But if you consider Hands of God related to Flamelurker, I think it's also likely to be related to the Dragon God itself. About the Old Monk and his corruption, it's worth noting that his Demon Soul can be used to learn the Soul Thirst spell, that make you earn more souls after defeating enemies. The Valley of Defilement was supposed to be the fourth level of the game, and the Shrine of Storms, the fifth one. That can be confirmed if you watch the monumental's explanation about the nexus, after the first level of boletaria palace. The community only reversed the order because the sixth archstone wasn't completed in the final game, so it would make sense to just number them in clockwise order.
Was so fascinated by your enthusiastic commentary for this game that I borrowed a friend's PS3 just to play this, having previously completed Dark Souls (brilliant) and Dark Souls 2 (disappointing). For me, Demon's Souls is somewhere in between the other two games. The highlight of the game for me was the Level design which is simply fantastic in its use of looping shortcuts. But there were several design gripes I couldn't shake while playing through. 1 = The obscurity of things like Crafting and World Tendency was really annoying. I still don't fully understand both even AFTER looking up the wiki, that's how convoluted they are. 2 = The Healing System, after playing Dark Souls, it just wasn't as good (poor players will resort to grinding, while good players are left with an overabundance of healing items). 3 = Balance issues, I almost gained more Souls on Level 4-2 than the rest of the game combined. I was gaining more Souls for defeating about half a dozen enemies on 4-2 within 10 minutes than I was defeating several hundred enemies over several hours on levels 5-1 and 5-2 (and level 4-2 was not notably harder). Overall enjoyable, but I think having so much of the game levels open from the start really hampered the developers ability to balance the difficulty all the way through. Then again I am a cautious and wily Souls veteran so maybe I should have played this game first rather than last. Good commentary.
I listen to this whenever I get bored and there's nothing else to do or watch on youtube. I've watched it three times I believe. Such a great "tour de Demon's Souls" :)
I really enjoyed watching this style of video, although it ended up being longer than most feature length films. I thought your commentary was very nice, and you managed to carry a similar style and analytic approach as your other, more-scripted videos. I would love to see you do another video in this style, Dark Souls or otherwise. Keep up the good work, man.
This is a pretty cool video. These days we've had the souls games around for a long time, so it's neat to go through an older video and hear Mat talk about this game like it's fresh.
That drunk playthrough is the biggest tease since PT. If Matt had the stones to make it a Patreon reward, it would be the first time I've ever "donated" for a reward.
Excellent video. Never really thought of the place where the Old One dwells as an actual physical place, or the practicality of the swords scattered about (I figured it was merely decor). As for Freke, I think it is implied through his dialogue that he progressively became more and more tempted with the soul arts (and thus began to lose his sanity) the more he learned about them during his time in the Nexus.

On the topic of ng+ cycles getting harder and harder and the devs not being able to test infinity.
LobosJr did an "infinite ng+" run in Dark Souls 1 where a modder made a file that kept the ng+ cycles past ng7 scaling up by 6%(the amount already in game, just stopped at 7)
He got to ng+18 before even the hollows in the Asylum were one shotting him, and he was adequately levelled and geared up.

@Totally normal Guy the remake as a whole just feels like it completely misses the intentions of the original a lot of the time.
So you're just a purist then? Unable to accept changes?@@tarrickmerdev2324

Edit: Yurt is one of the 13 squad captains of the soul society, his Bankai is called “NPC No More”
I remember seeing some promotional material for Demon Souls when it was in development about using messages to trick others so I'd say that you might be wrong about the "unintentional use". Considering the characterization of many of the NPCs and also the amount of traps, I'd say this was a forethought about morality among adventurers to get rid of the competition, so to speak, and it's brought back in the message system. Creating a rumor mill inside the game and such.

And also he's in front of a big wall, wich makes him look smaller in comparison

I totally agree. I feel Demon souls is the best out of all souls series.
Andrew Yabrifa
No, I'm not saying that. It's just that it does different things. To be honest, I personally like Dark Souls better due to its tight world design and improved combat. Not to mention, world tendencies feel a little unnecessary at times.

Yeah its better for it to be so easy you can just move to the side aint that right nooblets

The copper coin in dark souls covers the first point, as well as the implications of hollowing and crystals
Dark souls does too
@WinnieTheGrizzly Yes there is, i'll probably cover everything in a few weeks or months in video form. But the short answer is in Dark Souls, the fog gates are *usually * the souls of those who died to that boss monster/area, including other players from separate worlds.

Since besides Elden Ring & Demon Souls I haven't felt compelled to use shields.
The kind of intelligent commentary I didn't know I wanted
My only point of contention was an almost total lack of the Nexus being shown in the video, as well as dialogue with NPCs, but those are both things that I can easily accept as both "not in the scope of this playthrough" and "reasons to play the damn game myself."
Well done! Moving on to your Dark Souls one now.

I won't focus on one of your many points but I found much of what you said applicable to a wide variety of games - I've found a degree of respect for DS's development team and the individual you mentioned (I forget his name) who had the philosophy you commented on.

After watching this 3 times over, this is still my favourite video of yours!

I think Demons is a tad too broken to be remade properly while keeping what made it so bizarre intact.
all they'd really need to do to satisfy me is touch up the grafix, the game can be really hard to look at sometimes with all the aliasing and I'd rather have Bloodborne's CA over the shitty DoF this game uses.
“The harsh difficulty wasn’t the goal” “you don’t play it because it’s a difficult game”
Why none of the new soulsborne games have the same magic.

If you're looking for good dragon fights, play Dragon's Dogma. That game does dragon fights and large enemy fights in general spectacularly well.
Onderonable i second this notion

FLYING INTO FREEEEEEEEEEE
Despite being a little old, technicalities aside, I think the graphics look better in DeS than in DaS2.
My problem is that DS2 lacks atmosphere whereas DaS and DeS oozes with it
***** StopChanging YT I personally prefer DaS to DeS, more polished and consistent art style, more interesting enigmatic story that sticks strongly to a central theme, refined gameplay mechanics, fantastic open world that expands upon the intricate level design seen in DeS.
Cot Swossel Is the new 64 bit version any better? I hear things have some crazy patrols now and such. New locations for enemies.
And crows.
@RUBY DA CHERRY
noop9k does have a point though. It is ancient from even the time period of Demon's Souls.
You also have a point as well. But, maybe the medieval weaponry there is from adventurers traveling the ruins (shrine) and getting killed? That is my guess. I am simply saying both of you have a point.
(This last paragraph is directed toward the original commenter):
Also, this is a commentary.
OP is one of the dumbest people I've ever seen
Never realized the three black phantoms in Boletaria represent the earlier bosses.
Neat.
I love your sarcastic humor on your girlfriend backstabbing you!
"in other games enemies lock on their attacks on you " im having severe ptsd from that red eyed ogre of sekiro
That part gave me some major DS 2 flashbacks.
@@brotbrotsen1100 Ah yes, the hitbox madness
I started watching this because I'm not yet able to try Demon's Souls for myself, but I stayed for your fascinating commentary. Thank you!
Every few years the “real back stab” brings me back to this video.
The Old Monk fight was hilarious, this video stomps on all other Demon's Souls LPs.
I always got the sense that Astraea has been too helpful and made those she helps dependant on her, unintentionally making things worse for them.
This is a pretty cool video. These days we've had the souls games around for a long time, so it's neat to go through an older video and hear Mat talk about this game like it's fresh.
This is better than porn...
Thanks am gonna go jerk off now
That drunk playthrough is the biggest tease since PT. If Matt had the stones to make it a Patreon reward, it would be the first time I've ever "donated" for a reward.
Loved it, one of the best videos i have ever watched on youtube. Cannot wait for your dark souls one!
I'm sorry but I really like this video I just watch it every now and again just because it makes me appreciate game design and how informative you are
