I've recently purchased Media composer 7 w/ the symphony option, and I became overwhelmed by its size and complexity, but after seeing this tutorial video, (along with further tutorials) I've grown confident that even I will grow accustomed to, and grow to like your wonderful and awesome program! Thanks for a wonderfull resource AVID!
I have used Sony Vegas for 6 years. It is very simple and very quick but 1) it crashes, laggs, has other bugs 2) is not good for high quality pro stuff. I decided to learn the ropes of Avid MC for some future project and this is a perfect tutorial for someone who has previous experience with video editing. Thank you, man!
I just bought Media Composer to create video for original songs I have written and have recorded. I appreciate tutorials like this one that take someone like my self from square one. Very direct, straight forward information...thank you !

i need help. up until now all transitions i made worked but suddenly when i put transition between two specific clips i can't see the transition. it's shown on the timeline but when i try to watch it on record monitor i don't see a transition. does it has to do anything with the fact that the second clip in the transition suppose to come after the first clip in the original footage?
you probably need to render it in your sequence before you'll be able to see it in playback. in most editing software, the only transitions that are visible the moment you drop it into your sequence are the "cross" transitions. (Cross dissolve, Cross Zoom, etc.) Try shift + enter, that shortcut should render all effects in your timeline and you can play them back.
hi . Thans for the tutorials. Really good and clear ! Nevertheless I have one question. How ever if I import or AMA link my .mov videos into avid, I can visualise them only in a bad quality. It's like if a grey filter was put upon them on the software. The colors are less intense. I tryed to change the settings but it doesn't really change. The quality is a bit better in AMA link though but still isn't like my videos outside of the software. Could you please help me with some directions or the link to an eventual video I must not have founded yet ? Thanks !

I've been looking into Screen Media courses and the software they use is Avid Media Composer, they say its the industry standard. Is this the true or are the alternative suites just as widely used on an industry level?
Ok, I played a drinking game where I took a shot of whisky for each time he said “ok”. 13 minutes in I was so tanked I ended up watching videos of girls on trampolines and forgot all about editing.
If your are importing video and you do not want the audio from the video how do you do that? or do you just mute it somehow?I am interested in sinking imported video to music in Pro Tools I use 12.4 on Windows 8.1
You can individually select tracks from your source as you edit it into the timeline. When you match up your tracks, simply deselect the tracks on the source side (left hand side) before you edit. Anything that is not selected is not edited in.

+Prizm - Why do you say that? I was under the impression that this was universal industry standard. What software should they be switching to?
Exactly. I heard that they're switching from Final Cut Pro to Avid. If you know Avid, you're bound to impress someone, apparently...

What more does this have over Adobe? Honestly... Someone answer.
Nothing. It's outdated garbage where you have literal keyboard shortcuts just to resize a damn window.
@@benjaminjackson8663 Really what the fuck. So its just a brain memory trainer. Lol thanks man!!
AVID Nexis, better stability
What is mean by AVID?
It stands for GARBAGE. Lesson over. Move to any other editing program.
How mutch is Avid cost?
$1,000,000 so just use anything else. This program sucks and should be free.
Blake Blackstone it IS free...and it's so f*cking complicated to use. I just can't seem to get my head around the tools!

It would be much easier to for me to complain to consumer affairs about this arrogant and complacent company then to actually spend a day trying to in touch with someone to help me with their difficult software.
They used this software for TOM cruise mission impossible
the programs colors are such a drain. Actually nvm that's good cause it contrasts the final work of the editors :D
CROGPITTSSSSSS
So you can import "bin files" but not mp4 files like a normal editor?
Why is this a popular editor again?
You don’t “import” bins, but you can definitely import or link to MP4 containers (no matter the codec).
I got the free version
geez you would need a college degree just to get started on this! hehe
Ha! But once it "clicks" you'll be surprised how fast and easy Avid editing can be.
