  • Around 12:55 AM on May 7, 2023, officers with the Mentor Police Department were dispatched to a report of a possible motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of Little Mountain Road and Rosebud Drive. They were contacted as a result of an automated notification system in the driver’s iPhone which notifies law enforcement after detecting a collision. Officer Hanreck initially arrived on scene and observed that a house on Little Mountain Road had sustained significant damages. There was a trail of debris indicating that the house had been struck by a car, and the tension wire for a nearby telephone pole was broken.
The resident of the neighboring house had a video that indicated that the driver was likely behind the wheel of a Cadillac. The Mentor Fire Department was called on scene to evaluate whether the house had sustained any structural damages. Using the location tracking feature on the iPhone, officers were able to locate the driver in the driveway of another residence nearby.
Officer Swindell initially arrived on scene at the suspect’s residence. He made contact with 44-year-old Jennifer, who admitted to operating the Cadillac in the driveway. Jennifer told him that she was coming from BJ’s Restaurant and headed to Chase’s bar to pick up her boyfriend. Officer Swindell noticed that the driver airbag had deployed and the Cadillac had sustained significant damages. Jennifer was asked if she had consumed alcohol, and she admitted to doing so. Shortly afterwards, Officer Jones arrived on scene.
Based on their suspicion of impairment, Jennifer was asked to perform field sobriety exercises, but she refused to do so. However, the officers had enough reason to believe that she was impaired and she was placed under arrest for OVI. Officer Jones initially transported Jennifer to the Mentor Police Department, where she refused to submit to a chemical breath test. Jennifer did not have any prior OVI convictions in her history, and Sergeant Ondercin set her bond at 10% of $5,500 with a sober co-signer or after 8 hours. She was issued a mandatory court appearance on May 9, 2023 and charged with the following: OVI (333.01), hit/skip (335.14), and failure to control (331.34a)

This lady keeps saying “but I just picked up my boyfriend,” as if that means anything. Lady, you are a drunk menace and your boyfriend’s status as picked up or not picked up has absolutely no bearing on the fact that you crashed into a HOUSE with people sleeping inside. 99% are and just like every profession, there is always a 1% and unfortunately the mainstream media in this country love money and good cop video don't make nearly as much as bad cop videos so that's why some people hate police adamantly. It's sad that the 1% ruins it; with the help of clowns like Anderson Cooper and Sean Hannity and Rachel "race hustler" Maddow. I've interacted with police in 44 different States (pulled over in 14 and ticketed in 9 of them) and not once did anything bad happen and I am of color. If you get pulled over, do what they say regardless if you think you are right and you will go home or will at least be safe if you don't resist. Don't drink/do drugs and drive and you will literally never have anything to worry about. Make sure vehicle is up to date. It's really not that hard. Most people think police take 1000+ unarmed POC lives each year. In reality it's single digits and unarmed white lives taken is triple that. But MSM won't tell you that. They will tell you "hands up don't shoot" which turned out to be a provable lie when Obama's top DOJ put his report out and said his hands weren't up because he was attacking and ripping the cop out of the car and his top DOJ guy was black.

Just my 2¢, the problem isn't the boyfriend or any other man.
Sometimes we make terrible decisions when we don't address our own mental health.
Whether it's childhood trauma, past domestic abuse, a drug or alcohol addiction, a sexual assault or a undiagnosed mental illness.

The daughter is doing what most of us who are young and naive, do, when ending up on the receiving end of an alcoholic, and that's try to rationalise it, blame someone else (even though that person made the choice to drink then drive all by themselves), and/or enable them. Eventually you learn you can not reason with them, cannot trust them, you shouldn't aid them to escape or deal with consequences, and you cannot make them stop or accept help until THEY want to. Mine left me with permanent medical issues. I hope this young girl doesn't end up the same.

    them. It's awesome.
In the UK nowadays if we have an accident or ring for help, hardly anything happens. If a car say hit a house here, maybe one cop would showup, eventually. Then you'd receive a crime number before they disappeared again.
If you fall ill which I and a neighbour have both done over the last few years. Me with a seizure & my neighbour collapsed and had to be resuscitated, twice. You might not be so envious after you get the tax bill for all those cops just standing around. But on the serious note it looks like about 6 cops responded to both scenes. That's not really that much, I'm sure they could have gotten a lot more there if they needed them. They could have probably sent 50 or more cops if they needed. The fire department response was a bit overkill. But it didn't sound like the situation was communicated well to them. All they got was a report of a car into a building with structural damage. It looks like they sent firefighters to deal with the structure issue and EMS / rescue to deal with the car driver and for a possible need for extraction. If it had been properly conveyed to them that the driver was not at the scene they wouldn't have sent EMS.

I could be wrong but I think when an iPhone sends an alert for emergency response I don't think the 911 dispatch knows exactly what the emergency is so multiple emergency personnel are sent. I think it alerted a crash but not to what extent.

Mentor is a smallish town of about 50K. The cops probably aren’t spread as thin as they are in bigger cities. Our local taxes pay for police and fire, typically. EMS and the subsequent care is a different story as you probably know. Illustrates some of the pros / cons of a “free” vs. individual payer system.
