Thanks for the tour, Keith. Really enjoyed watching it. Especially someplace so old and with so much character.

I love this. The grandeur of some Victorian gravestones blows my mind, but there is something so appealing in the simple artwork and perfect lettering found on older stones. Thanks for sharing this.

I totally agree. The stone carving is so remarkable

I agree, the only thing missing, is a button to push. To hear from the people in them. No,NO not like a ghost, but to tell you what it was like to live during times they lived in. I hope you understand what I'm tring to say. I'm not crazy, I know it can't happpen.

On many of the headstones throughout MA., there is a little saying written on them:
"Death is a debt to nature due. I've paid my debt and so shall you"
The first time I read that (12 or 13 years old) I KNEW it was going on my own headstone one day too.

That's a good one! I'm personally fond of the old winged skull motif.

I found your video's on you tube. I have always had a great passion for older cemeterys. My son has a master' degree in history and loves all history. Mine is more for a social aspects of it. How people lived, survived, and died. From the first prisons, first homes or hospitals. Everything that involved people from so long ago. Your presentations of older cemetaries, have made them a must see for me.I enjoy them very much. Thank you.

The whole history of that town and the way they've preserved the city, like you've stepped back in time, is incredible. I'm pretty sure everyone who has ever visited Salem, has left a little piece of their heart there. Wicked fun in the summer, but, packed with tourists.
Go on Halloween, you'll never forget it.

N West- Nathaniel who built the Salem Hotel. Cemeteries would make great neighbors. No noise or trash. That tree when you entered looked like a hanging tree from the branches.

Was the Robey tombstone made of slate? Slate and granite last. Still readable after 300 years.

Yes it looked like slate to me. One thing I've realized from visiting cemeteries is marble doesn't hold up well at all.

Being English it all seems so recent....My last house in England was built in 1725.... Some of this cemetery is English (pre 1707) and British (1707 and post) and with some American1776 and post....... I am from Wharfedale where we have Anglo-Saxon churches from the 600s and 700s and of course York Minster etc 1100ad on......

It's on my bucket list to see some of those incredible English treasures before I am under the ground myself. Thanks for watching.

Did you see any Pickering graves? I see the house off in the distance.

    • @Keithdotson
      @Keithdotson  4 года назад +1

According to find-a-grave, there are several Pickerings buried at Broad Street. I may be mistaken, but I think the large crypt and headstones at the very end of the video are theirs. At 12:09 you get a brief glimpse as my camera panned around.

My ancestors are the Hutchinsons and Putnams. Arrived in 1632 to Salem. Unfortunately both families were involved with the start of the witch trials. I think that was pretty political then we're told. I'd like to visit there one day.

I would agree that the Graves probably go under the fence into the yards of houses surrounding the graveyard...I would venture to bet that there is paranormal activity in some of those houses...Almost guaranteed
