I have a Granvia 1999 for the last 10yrs 1kz TD a very reliable car and very comfortable. it hardly asks for repairs but you must always service the engine if you want to keep it for long Every 5000 km 👍👍i still have it.!!
The Granvia is what the European version of he Hiace was based on. They look almost identical but the Hiace was only ever sold as a utility vehicle and never received any of the fancy stuff you get in the Granvia
I don't' see it in your playlist but are you still planning to do a second video for the Granvia? You promised it during the video and I hope you bring it.
First, I love your videos! I found them to be fun and helpful when I was looking to import a JDM van to the states. I ended up buying a 1997 Toyota Hiace Regius, which is very similar to this Granvia (center dash is almost identical). I noticed in your video the radio has been removed, which is something I need to do in order to put in a more modern one. I cannot figure out how to get it out though without removing the whole dash panel...is there some trick I'm missing to getting the radio out? It appears to have the original toyota branded radio.
We have one in the Philippines and its converted to left hand drive. A lot of the power niceties like the power curtains, sliding door and side mirror folding function aren't working anymore. But it is an excellent workhorse and very cheap to maintain! And I have to say that it has a lot more tuning potential than the Space Gear! The 1KZ engine has EFI so a remap and some bolt on mods can easily make loads of power!
Hi, unfortunately I was not the one who did the conversion as it was already converted when I got it so I do not have all the details. The dashboard was chopped up and remolded. Steering column, pedals and brake master cylinder were transferred to the left. Window switches were switched over. Steering rack was replaced with its LHD counterpart. A/C ducts were refabricated using rubber insulation ducting (not quite sure exactly what its called) and wipers were turned upside down and faced the other way. It would be best if you can get your hands on donor original LHD parts from a European market Hiace so more plug and play and less fabrication is needed.
"Basically the Granvia is what you get when you strip down everything exciting from the Spacegear" lol. Great video as usual. I wonder why they stopped releasing vans with the skylite roof. I know it has its problems but they're so cool. Should've kept that sticker, seems like a 7yo kid wrote it for a school assignment 🤣
I’ve always thought the Granvia was a dark horse. Love it’s functionality and that 1KZ motor. Do the front driver/passenger seats swivel? I was under the impression that they do at all trim levels but I haven’t seen one in person yet so I’m not certain
@@MyRetroVans No worries! Check out the photos on this listing here. While they are photos from a catalog, I have always hoped that all models came with those front swivel chairs! www.jdmcarandmotorcycle.com/details/used-1996-toyota-granvia/74480765
@@FamilyTreeTherapy wtf there is a family having a pic nic inside the van lol. If the driver/passenger seats swivel, this would be a perfect van to make it a camper...
Mine doesn't and I've got the 1997 model. What it does have is the power adjustable driver's seat (now passenger seat since mine is converted to LHD). I've seen some of the Hiace Regius models with the front row swiveling seats though.
HELP!!! are parts easy to find in USA? is it a Timing Chain or Belt? if Belt what is the labor time? I had a 96 Previa with 2.4 with Chain / Gasoline. You can not find them in USA any longer so I'm considering this from JPN Importer. If parts are a nightmare to get I'll pass
I have a issue with mine its a 3l 1kz te engine however automatic gearbox it goes in reverse but doesn't drive and it goes in l and doesn't drive i am in need of assistance
You don't need mechanical knowledge persay, but you should read up on how to drive, maintenance schedules, warning signs, etc. so that you can take it to a mechanic when necessary. Good luck!
Power is wrong for Mmc delica 4m40 has 125 hp 😄after they got electronic 1997 and upgraded facelift yes 140hp l400,, Granvia first gen has non intercooler 130hp yes but after 1999 got 140hp with intercooler in 1999 huh

Could you tell me how much you had to do to convert it? Im thinking about bringing one to Poland

Granvia is the Japanese version of the swb hiace?
Yes but no. Hiace was a workhorse without any fancy stuff.

Yes regius has front swivel seats
What year is the spacegear in the video? 😊
Is this hard to find parts for and work on in US?
what fuel economy does this usually get. I have found large discrepancies looking online, so am curious what the average one gets

The 1KZ Granvia employs a timing belt and parts are readily available! I have two lifted one's stateside if you're interested!
