To be honest I didn’t even know it was released until I was asked to review it. I’m talking about the King C Gillette Safety Razor. Maybe 50 youtube subscribers asked if I could do a review of it. So after the requests kept mounting I took a ride down to my local Walgreens which is the only place that is selling them. As far as I can tell you can’t get them from Target or CVS or any other place other than Walgreens which is fine by me because we have one about nine miles away. Once at the store I found it right away due to the big display they had showing them off.
The packaging is stunning and well thought out. It instantly told you something special is in the box. The design seemed to capture the period of the first razor and yet look modern at the same time. It even had a signature of King C. Gillette on the side but after looking at his real signature this was not the same as what was on the box. Inside you find a package of 5 blades and the 3 piece razor. Cap, Base, Steam all perfectly chromed. I found no instructions for the first time user on how to load or explaining proper usage of the razor which I think was an oversight on Gillette’s part. It seemed they had a target audience in mind which was the established wet shaver and knows what a safety razor is and how to use it.
The razor's performance is very surprising considering it meager $29.00 price tag. The grip is a spiral etching and does an amazing job of keeping you from having it slip out of your hands. As mentioned before the chrome on each piece is perfect along with its balance. It is a heavy razor due to its handle which is the heaviest part of the razor its total weight is 3.6oz.
If I had to rate this razor on aggressiveness with a rating of 1-100 100 being very aggressive I would put it at about 60%. This puts it at a very happy medium for the experienced wet shaving but also allows the novice to jump in and give it a try.
Overall I find this razor to be a wonderful addition to any wet shavers den and if you looking for a razor to give to a first time user or your thinking of getting into wet shaving yourself then by all means this is the razor for you and seeing this is only $29.00 who wouldn’t want one of these sticking out of their holiday stocking on Christmas morning.
I just hope more companies follow this path of bringing back some old-style razors like the ones my father used. Seeing the Aristocrat or the 1960s Fatboy have a new generation of users would be just what wet shaving needs now. I know they would appreciate how amazing these razors truly are.

I'm a new wet shaver. I've recently converted from using Schick Quattro cartridge razors. Don't have a real fancy set up or anything, just the King C. Gillette Safety Razor (that I just purchased online), a can of Barbasol Green, and some Aqua Velva aftershave (which I really like). I have most razors - I’m on my 18th shave with this razor and blade - 18!!!! This for me is the best blade I have ever used. I love my Timeless and Karve and my Razorocks but this razor and blade combo is as good as it gets at any price!

Just bought one last Friday, 2 shaves in with the KCG and it blows my mind. Been using a DE's for 7 years and I love this razor. It's as smooth as my Karve and Rockwell 6S, C and as efficient as RW on 5 and Karve on D. And the price....... Brilliant!
This with a shim is working great for me. The shim was an improvement..
Best new started razor ever. Gives a nice shave and the build quality is amazing for the price. I bought 4 of these as they only cost $18 AUD in Australia back in 2020. Highly recommended.

Not really it was fun for the review and its a nice razor but I have other like the Occam's Razor that just blows that away
Morning Donald. Great shave and review. Gillette is now officially a world wide company, handle from China, head from Germany, and blades from Russia. I have already purchased the razor and have been using it for the last month. I like how it shaves and feels in the hand. I have recommended it to several people as a good starter razor. You can get cheaper razors if you want to wait for the mailman to arrive or just hustle down to Walgreens and pick one up.

Nice review Don, I did a shave with this razor last week, all very beautiful, it is very deep and does not attack. The only thing that leaves me perplexed is the handle, it has only half the grip, and for a beginner it can be a problem, also considering the weight of the razor ... but to have absolutely !! Grand review as always, Brother D.Y.!!! I've enjoyed using the face wash, transparent gel (which I actually make a bowl lather with), blades, and razor for a month now. I'm really a fan of the heft it carries. Just wish the knurling was that of the Heritage.

Yup you called it right as mild razor as got it few weeks ago from giveaway on Instagram. Used it after 3 days of beard growth and that blade isn't too sharp and mild so had to switch to my regular blade (GSB) and it performed good and now it's in my razor rotation. Have a good day Sir.

It’s super mild! It’s also my second safety razor my first one was the Wilkinson sword vintage classic razor and my first shave with the Gillette one was already waaaay smoother
A shim improved this, running 2 shims now excellent shave fwiw.

To be honest the box seems nicer than the Razor. I prefer my Merkur Progress and even my Merkur 1904 Gillette style much more. I’ve got some “Custom” razors as well that truly delectable yet affordable. Shame I no longer work as a Machinist I’d really be going hog wild making handles. I’d likely buy the heads tho.

Vince, I agree 100%, my go to blades are GSB, TREET, Voskhod, Derby and Astra, and these blades are simply spectacular! As I posted, I am on my 18th shave with my dismay King C blade (I normally get 8-10 with my go to blades). At 18 shaves, I have to keep going just out of curiosity!
I really like that razor. Not as aggressive as I prefer, but it’s really good. I need to grab some Greys Vetiver as the Tom Ford Grey Vetiver is one of my all time favorite scents

The quality looks nice. I'm not much in favor of the typical safety razors found in stores, like the horrible cheap dollar store ones, or the vander hagen which has crappy blades and is too mild of a shave.
*Gillette saw that they could sell this razor to many who have never seen a safety razor before and it seemed to work well for them. Is it a great razor - no but if your interested in what it would be like to use one this makes it an easy an affordable option. Thanks for watching*

Don the blade are made from Russia in the blade pack, similar to a Gillette Silver Blue or maybe a Astra Superior Stainless. Give them a ago with the new razor comes in the same package.
