    Well done Marc. Good choice on the case construction. And obviously the pocket screws are no problem In the doors either. It is actually a bit faster to not do any joinery at all before the door assembly on glass panels. Then use a 1/2" or 3/8 rabbet bit to go on the inside of the door. No need to square the edges. You can actually sand glass on a belt sander to match the round, or just clip the corners at a 45. And no additional fasteners needed for the glass. Just use a healthy bead of silicone caulking on the inside edge of the rabbet. And that silicone will stick just fine to the paint. So you can do it after the painting is finished. So no putty on the door ends, no joinery fitting, no masking off the glass, and if the glass door breaks then you can replace the glass without replacing the door.
    When you want a glass door that's professional quality Shaker style then switch out the pocket screws for a domino joint and you got quick and easy glass doors.

    In Boulder County, there’s a program that supplies an outdoor box like this that is on a post that sits on your property line. There is a map to show where they all are. You can take a book forever, or donate and put your old books in.

      The soft close hinges have a little pull that helps keep the door closed, I use them on my camper and it keeps stuff in the cabinet in a moving vehicle under normal conditions.

    Random idea: You should add a couple of countersunk screws to the front frame and magnets to the door to make the box invisibly latch. It would hold better when exposed to the elements

    Sometimes its just enough to build something utilitarian like this cabinet. Most of the world wouldnt even know how to appreciate if this cabinet was made of ebony or wenge with halfblind dovetails. And not everything has to last 500 years of rough use. Kids certainly dont care anything else except the nice color perhaps 😁

    Really enjoying making this as my first woodworking project. Question on the pocket hole joints for the door: I cut the groove centered down the length of the rails and stiles - and like you show here I cut them through the complete length of each door piece with a table saw. The result is, the pocket hole joints (seen at 3:55 in video) don't work because the groove is right where the wood should be for the screws to secure into. I'm gluing in some shims to correct for this - but wondering why you didn't seem to run into this issue?

    Any concern regarding weather causing the plywood to delaminate over time?
    Do you think that laminated spruce/pine be an acceptable alternative. (Lowes model #179388)
    Any suggestion for an alternative to using glass in the door?
    We are planning to build 10 little libraries for an inner city project. Our woodworker's club will cut out all pieces, pre-drill and provide all components for students to construct, paint and install within their neighbor hoods. Lowes has offered to provide the materials.

    I know nothing. I was wondering how you would recommend making the angle cut along the length of the top "stretchers" without access to a table saw? Thanks.

    • @theflyingmachine17
      @theflyingmachine17 4 года назад

      There are a few different options depending on what tools you have. If you have a circular saw many have the ability to angle the blade, the things to keep in mind is just make sure you have enough material under the saw to make a stable cut. This will likely mean being a bit less efficient with your wood and cutting them from a larger piece. Another simple option would be a hand plane, take the straight pieces and clamp them in place and mark the angle on the ends of the board, then draw lines to connect the marks. From there you can either hold the stretcher in a vice to plane it or just screw it in with the pocket screw and plane to the lines after its been assembled. Hope that helps :)

      I didn’t want to be that guy but that is my concern as well. Drip edge. The good thing is that it’s not like a ledge that will be shedding water, it’s just what might accumulate and drip off the front edge of the roof.
