I really appreciate how detailed and specific your video was in it's production and narration. You explained every step, and sped up the repedative, but necessary parts where each side of the library needed to be thoroughly tended to (example: applying the calk, smoothing with wet finger to seal, and wiping that finger off). These are the little but crucial details that many tutorials miss. Thank you for your tremendous effort in educating us!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
Thank you for this very helpful video. I've been restoring old book cases and such to make Little Free Libraries, but now that I've seen your techniques, I feel like I may just be ready to build one from scratch! When you describe checking to make sure your post is level and show the photo of it with your dog behind it, I thought, "What a great way to check if something's level. Use your dog!" ;)
I'm gonna DO it. wish me luck. Thank you great tutorial/vid.
Did you do it?
I want to build a little library for our cottage. We have so many people that walk by every day on their daily constitutional’s. It will be a lovely addition and I’m sure appreciated by many. Thank you so much
Thank you for this video! My friend and I yeehawed a library plan today based off guesstimates. Watching your video has helped me figure out how to adjust our plans! Thank you thank you thank you!
You're welcome!
Oh my god! this is incredible, amazing, so admirable. I'm from Chile, I didn't know about Free Library. It's just something unbelievable. You have so many things that help your people have good education and gives more opportunities to learn. I admire you, in my country people doesn’t care much about reading, learning more, we have bad education, and a lot of crime. If I put a Free Library outside my house, I’m sure no one would use it and in a few days it would be stolen. Things like this shows why you are happy and inteligent people. claps
Sorry to hear how things are in Chile, but thanks for the nice comments.
I just started today with your tutorial. Only built 3 walls and the base so far. Thank you for sharing your skills, and allowing us to share books within our communities :)
P.S. I used an old picture frame with the glass to make the door!
Good luck!
LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this video! You made it so easy! Can’t wait to do this!! AWESOME!!💕
Thank you so much for the step by step instructions. My daughter has been asked to make one for her Eagle Project. Your instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. Now fingers crossed I can cut the pieces straight 🤞🏾😂😆
Once again Thank you
YIS
Phil
Good luck!
I'm in the process of building a "little free pantry" for a customer, and I had no plans to go off of, so it's been a longer process but I wish I could have found your video a little sooner! Very detailed! It is a extremely good how-to video!
I really liked the precision and care that you exercised in putting this together. Your instructions and suggestions were excellent. I actually like yours much better than the ones available from the LFL organization. Thanks you so much! Raleigh, NC
Your video was incredibly helpful as I finalize my plans for building a Little Free Library for our community! Thank you for taking the time to make and share this project. 😊
Thanks Mary.
Very nice job of demonstrating the steps. Thank you.
Very detailed, that was awesome and very informative! I want to build one today! Great job
This is a great video. I will say to beginners/ DIYers, don’t feel bad if you can’t cut as straight this guy. He is very skilled. I’m a carpenter and my jig cuts aren’t nearly as clean as this. Nor are my skill saw cuts.
Overall very informative and appropriately paced video. Thanks for posting!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
that's a neat idea. thanks for sharing
Great video! Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing it.
I am planning to make a library just like this for my eagle scout rank in boy scouts. This gave me an idea that I could use to make my mini free library. Thank you for making great content.
Worked great! My father-in-law & I were able to follow your instructions flawlessly.
Thanks Clint, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Excellent video ...thanks !
Excellent video. Thank you
the video is wonderful. we used your instructions and our library is up! thanks!
O
So cool. Mizoram needs this.
Thank you for the video of your process. You did a great job!! Beautiful library... thank you for sharing!
Thanks Kristine.
Well done! I now feel confident I can build my own little library. I plan to make mine smaller, so will adjust. Thanks!
Good luck!
Thank you so much for your very easy-to-follow instructions and demonstrations of things that may be obvious to others, but sound like a foreign language to someone who has never done them before (like pre-drilling the countersink holes for the grabber screws). I have bookmarked this video and I am off to home depot to buy some supplies!!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and good luck on building your library.
Thanks for the very helpful and detailed videos. I'm looking forward to starting on my free library very soon
Good luck!
Hey everyone, the best results that I have ever had was by using the coop magic tactic (i found it on google) without a doubt the most helpful course i've tried.
Thank you for such detailed and well paced video! I learned so much :)
Thanks Nijagara.
This RUclips video is well done and thorough.
Great job and great explanation, thank you

Great video! Thank you for making this & sharing it
And um matching library to your house.. love it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great little useful community site...in our crazy recent times when so many services were closed including "public libraries" these Little Free Libraries sites like ours next to the Curren Apple Orchard were a breath of fresh air to our imaginations... Cath in University Place, WA
I agree, thanks for the comment.
Nicely done
Awesome!
Wonderful job. Thanks.
Thanks Charles for watching.
Nice job on this video!
I can tell you made this with much attention to detail. You did a great job. I am so sorry that your neighbor complained and you were forced to take it down. What's wrong with some people?
Fantastic video, thank you.
Thanks.
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Thanks so much for this information! Your video was so clear and your voice is so calming. Thank you again!
Glad it was helpful!
Agreed!
I made an exact Library like you did for my Eagle Scout project.
Did you already own the carpentry materials/saws
Lol I'm doing this for my eagle project too
I'm doing this library for my eagle scout project now as well.
Cheaper than a city park bench! (For an eagle project)
I see we are all doing this as an eagle project
Excellent tutorial. Very detailed.
Thanks.
Nice job! Very detailed instructions
Thanks!
I just want to say thank you for a great video. I was able to complete the little library and I couldn’t have done it without your great video. All the best from Hawaii...aloha!
Thanks Kitsana for watching.
This is a great tutorial on how to make a little library. Thank you
Do you know you were watched by a spirit? At 21:41 a small white orb looks to come out of the 4 X 4 and goes to the left. At 21:47 it comes up from under his working area, slowly rises, checks out the measuring tape and then flies off to the right and out of sight. Very cool.

Thank you! 😊
Nice video. I was quickly reminded of my Maths classes. Hated them! LOL 12:49
Thanks for the inspiration and instruction. It’s been a fun project to tackle during COVID
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this
Any time!
This is so very well done 👍
Thanks for watching.
Very beautiful craftmanship.
Hope this thing is still around years later.
Thanks, and yes people passing by use it every day.
You did an amazing job. A little shelf would have made it perfect.
Great work :D
+Ben McKenna
Thanks Ben.
This video is so helpful! Thank you. I just got permission from our Parks and Rec department to put a LFL in - once I build it, of course.
nice job.
A good neat strong job well explained.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
Thank you so much, this is great work I learn a lot. This is I am looking for my son scout Eagel project.
Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
even though i wont ever make one , but would like to say ths, very nice presentation and your instructions were very concise and precise. id ad videos and maybe some small tools .
This how-to video is very detailed and nicely done.
Thanks!
Fantastic
Thanks!
Amazing idea😍
Thank you! 😊
We have a Little Free Library near to our neighborhood, and when we got some books in the Library we usually post them to Snapchat and Facebook and since then the owners of the house added additions to it to make it more noticeable like painting it green (from its original black) adding a roof and a bunny, there is another one far from it which is twice as big.
Great build! Here's how I explain the miter saw angles... when you measure the angle of the roof, you are measuring the total angle. When you set your miter saw, your point of reference is a right angle, or 90 degrees. You have to subtract half your angle from the 90 degree reference on the miter saw to set the angle.
Good advice, thanks for posting.
wow thank u for video
+محمد القحطاني
Thanks.
Thanks !
Thanks Ron for watching.
Thank you. I have tons of scraps and need a project.
Good luck!
Great video. What sort of hinges did you use so that you had room between the door and the face for insulation? My efforts have resulted in fully flush and not providing space required.
Maybe I'll do this one day :)
Great tutorial! Can you tell me the router bit you were using to cut the plexiglass groove? Thanks!
The video is wonderful and I am inspired but can't build. Can you give me a list of supplies for the project? I was trying to write them down as you discussed them but got a little lost. Thank you in advance!
You can buy a pre-made one from the Little Library people. This video is really about DIY craftsmanship. If you just want a Lettle Library, order one. If you want a project, enjoy it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is going to be such a huge help to me! I have a few questions though.. 1. Was it worth it to build it yourself money wise?/How much did you spend? 2. What type of climate do you live in? I live in wisconsin and am really worried about what type of wood to get since we have all types of weather here. 3. What type of wood did you use? Thank you in advance!
If I remember right the materials, paint, and plexi-glass were under $100. I did have the saws necessary for cutting the wood. The money I saved on freight for the online kit I bought a router. I live in Salt Lake City that is hot and sunny in the summer and cold and snowy in the winter. I cut up a sheet of plywood to build the library. I used caulk and a number of coats of paint to keep it waterproof. So far so good.
Beautiful. Your 52˚ vs 38˚ angle discrepancy for the trim comes from: 90-38=52. 90 is a right angle, so 52˚ and 38˚ are compliments.
Complements. Well explained though!
I'm using these lands, primarily because of your excellent instructional video!!! One question (so far) - because you changed the dimensions of the front, did you also adjust the dimensions of the door?
Sorry - plans, not lands! Doggone auto-spell on this new tablet!!! 😠
Don't worry, I see you have answered the same question in an earlier comment! Thank you
Now that's TIGHT.
Hello, I’m wondering if you have any idea on how to attach the library to a tree trunk rather than standing it on a post ?
Thank you for an excellent video. I have been using it to build my library. I've reached the part where I have to now cut the angle on the roof pieces. As things are coming together, I'm getting a little worried about the weight of the library. I made mine a little larger than yours (back wall piece is 26"w x 24"h to give you an idea). Can this width and eventual weight (with books) be borne by a single 4x4? What would you suggest I do to make it super stable and of course safe? Thanks for any help.
I think you should be fine with the dimensions you listed to use a 4x4 and the braces shown in the video. If your worried you could go to a 6x6 post and 2x6 board on the bottom of the library. Then add 2x6 angle braces.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your video has been watched many times as I play and replay each step to make sure I get it right, just like you. I will try to go for a 6x6 post.
Where did you get the hinges? Got a link?
Really useful! Without any solid attachment to the ground, does your library withstand against strong wind and rain? Thanks.
No problems so far with the 4x4 its mounted on.
A great chalenging project. I loved making it However:where can I get spring hinges as shown here? I looked at 3 different hardware stores and none had anything apporpriate.
I bought my hinges at Home Depot.
Thank you for the awesome video. I can't find the plans for the Essential model. Would you happen to have the link for it by any chance?
I don't see the plans I used on their website now, but these plans are close: littlefreelibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Cedar-Roof-Basic-Library-Design_Little-Free-Libraries-and-Tiny-Sheds_Quarto_Philip-Schmidt.pdf
Very nice video. I just finished mine and I am glad I watched your steps... thank you.
I do not understand the comment about the roof angle. If you follow the instructions it calls for a total of 90 degree angle (6 x 6 or 45 degree cut). In fact the trim should have the same cut as your roof boards that you did cut at 45 degree. When building mine, I ended up measuring a total of 90.5 degree for the roof... How did you arrive to 76.1 ?
Hi Stephane. For some reason when I made the two 45 degree cuts for the roof pieces they didn't fit right. If you notice in the video I ended up with a gap on the roof line that I filled with silicone. I'm not sure if I made a mistake on the end pieces I cut for the end walls, but when I measured the roof angle it was 76 degrees not 90 degrees. To make the trim pieces work work for me, one angle was 38 degrees and the complimentary angle was 52 degrees. If your roof angle ended up at 90 degrees then the angle for the trim pieces would be 45 degrees. Looks like I made a mistake somewhere that you didn't.
Nevertheless it works. Beauty of woodworking. Thank you again for your extremely well done video and pedagogical presentation.
Hi, can I ask what sort of router bit you used for the groove to insert the plexiglass? Thank you!
Jeremy Hillman 1/2 wife straight bit
Such a great instructional video. My girl scouts are working on a silver award and making a little library using this example. We've all listened to this video many times to try and write down a materials list. However, we don't know how long the support pieces are. Are they 1 ft long with a 45 degree bevel cut on each side?
If you're talking about the trim pieces on the roof, measure edge to edge then make your bevel cut.
iScaper1 not the roof but the 2 support pieces under the library that you attach to the post
Got it. Cut the support pieces around a foot long. If the end of the piece sticks out past the edge of the library then cut each support a bit shorter. The cuts are 45 degrees.
iScaper1 THANK YOU sooooooooo much!!
I started out with an old microwave I had to waterproof with sealer, and now have a fridge. I do however have it in a rear laneway so it is out of sight.
What type of router bit did you use to do the groove please? I don't want to pick the wrong one as I only have good wood, no scrap just now...LOL Thanks and I loved the INFO ON PLANS...finally!!!:) JUST A NOTE: For those who use a jig saw, use the blade labeled for plastic cutting to avoid chipping the edges of the plexi.:) Metal blades can melt it. This video was great to find as you had much more information and plans! My roof is a different style as it is being hung up on a wall. :) The roof peak has to come forward instead...:) Cheers!
Thanks Vicki for the comments. I think I used a rabbet bit for the groove.
