The Minolta Maxxum (Dynax) 5 is probably my favorite film camera. It has so many great options, my favorite being the choice to leave the film leader out or rewind it fully into the canister. I like the camera so much, I bought a 2nd one, just in case.
It pays to get your hands on the camera manual since this camera has 14 Custom Settings. The Film TIp Custom Setting is #3. Turn on the camera, turn the Function Dial to CUST, turn the Control Dial to select the Custom Setting you want to set (CUSt 3, in this case). Press and hold the FUNC button while turning the Control Dial and select either 1 - Film Tip Rewound or 2-Film Tip Left Out. When done, release the FUNC button. After you've changing your Custom Settings, turn the Control Dial to any other setting except CUST. If you keep your Function Dial on CUST, you can still take photos but all button/switches are disabled except the Shutter Release button. Your Custom Settings can only be changed manually and will remain even after you turn off the camera or press the Program-Reset button.
Hi there Dan. I own this camera and it went obsolete a few years ago after digitalis came in. Gosh… where did you get the film roll and how can I get these rolls and also have them developed? Kindly reply .. I want to start using mine again.. I see yours us a 2024 video shoot with my camera.. please reply…
Hi Zahida! I bought these rolls of Kodak Pro Image 100 on Amazon. It came in a pack of 5 and was the most economical color film I could find at the time. Here in Montreal, we can buy rolls of film at any of our numerous camera stores (we are very lucky) and at most pharmacies. If you don't have a local photo lab, or pharmacy that still has photo developing services, you might find a lab that accepts mail in orders. Most of this should be possible to find with a Google search that will find stores close to you.
Good Morning Dan. Thank you so much for replying. Am going to get the rolls on Amazon.. the only challenge for me would be the development of the film roll. I am in Kenya. Maybe I learn to develop film on my own… ?beautiful camera… the Dynax 5. Let me give it a shot. You know at one point I was going to bin a perfectly working camera! Currently I have only one lens for it… the 28-80 mm one. What Lens are you using in the video… and how much does it cost? some beautiful and amazing shots you took. In the good old days we had photo albums that the family could pour over but now iCloud stores and we just can’t seem to get into those happy memories easily anymore…I find that so sad… anyways… thank you for replying. Am grateful.
Cheers for sharing your experience with this minolta dynax 5.
That's another camera I've got to look out for now.😊
Thank you! Love the warm tones in your shots
Thank you very much! Warm tones help on a cold day

Hi, I also have this camera but I’m unsure how to rewind the film without loosing the end. My camera only has the rewind button on the back.
