My favourite book of 2023 was Les Miserables by Victor Hugo an absolutely stunning read (Christine Donougher). I read The 100 Year Old Man ... a few years ago, great fun!!
Oooh, I need to up my game when it comes to reading the classics. I've never read or seen Les Miserables (film nor theater), but maybe that ought to change in 2024 :)
You sold me on The Hundred Year Old Man so I downloaded it when I watched the video earlier and I'm now at the historical chapter with the Faberge egg. I'm really enjoying the whimsical tone and dry humour, so thanks for the recommendation. 'Deadly mercenary with a soft heart' is certainly an interesting type :) I haven't read Shadow and Bone, but Six of Crows was well worth reading. There's more romance than I like (although maybe you'll enjoy that aspect more) and the character backstory parts sometimes slow the story momentum, but it's a good heist story with a bunch of different and interesting characters. I already mentioned The Will of the Many, but a few of my other favourites from last year were The Book That Wouldn't Burn, Sea of Tranquility and All The Light We Cannot See. A couple of mystery-thrillers made the list but I'm not sure if that's your thing. A book that made me laugh a lot was Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's based on fantasy RPG (which I know nothing about) but had a lot of funny moments and some clever social commentary. The audio narration is incredible. I don't have any hard and fast goals but some loose aims are to read more of what I own and try something new. Good luck with your channel, reading and goals in 2024!
Oh, I’m so glad you like The 100 year Old so far! It’s so Scandinavian in a different way than all the dark crime books/tv we are known for 🙈 Slowing the story down and more character depth sounds just like what I was missing in the Shadow & Bone Trilogy. Fingers crossed with Six of Crows 🤞🏻 Oooh, you’re mentioning so many books that are on my TBR 🤩 Haven’t heard of Dungeon Crawler Carl or fantasy RPG, but the book sounds hilarious. Just might have a go at it 😂 Thanks! I’m well into The Midnight Library and I. Am. In. LOOOVE 😍
@RDsLibrary I got a notification that you commented again, but I can't find it anywhere - so now I'm just answering here 😂 The Midnight Library really does make you think quite a lot about the choices you make through life and how your life could differ if you'd made different choices. So fascinating. I also love the idea about the vacuum between Life and Death where you can face your regrets and move on (either way) with clarity. It's a very heartwarming book so far. I'll finish the book tomorrow, but I have a feeling I know how it'll end. And I think I like it - even though it is predictable. We'll find out tomorrow 🙈
@@literatureliz91 Yes, sorry about that. I commented but had second thoughts because I didn't want to put a slight downer on a book your loving. I deleted it and thought YT would honour the deal. Apparently, not. You just can't trust multinational corporations these days :) I agree with what you said. I love books that make me think and reflect on what I'd do in the character's situation and even in my own life. The whole 'regrets and what could have been' thing is really interesting. I have a specific thing about the ending, but I will save that for when you've finished. I hope love the rest of the book! You might like The Humans by the same author, although that's a very different type of story.
@@RDsLibrary Oh, I'll keep that in mind the next time I get a notification and can't find the comment then :) I'm so curious now as to what you think of the ending haha. I'll get back to you when I've finished the book :D Thanks! It's already on my TBR and I have a feeling a lot more of Matt Haig's books will be added to it as well :P
Hello Liz...My favorite book of the year was the 1818 text of Frankenstein...fantastic. .also a Wintery classic called ..Ethan Frome.. both books short reads ...Ethan Frome is kinda a romance to a degree..very sad...but good...hey do you do middle grade/ YA..??...just curious..😊
Oooh, that IS a classic and so, so good! It's been a few years since I read it, might have to reread it soon :D I do have a couple of middle grade/YA on my TBR :)
What is your favourite book of 2023? :D
Mine was Either: Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb or Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Don't think I could choose between the 2!
Oooh, I've heard a lot of good things about Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb. Might just give it a go! And I mean, Brandon Sanderson is just amazing :D

Just finished The Midnight Library and I’m sobbing. Even though I had predicted the ending - it was the ending that Nora needed - that I needed 😍
