@debbiesilver3549. Hi Debbie, So happy you are enjoying this process. We have to admit it is fun! Be sure you blot and rub your papers really well. To be sure they are totally dry leave them to air dry for about a week after using drying method in video. If you want to use them sooner test them overnight on a clean piece of paper weighted with a heavy book. (good idea even after a week). If they are not totally dry they will leave oil marks. Hair dryer helps to dry but we recommend leaving at least overnight to air dry and do the paper test method. Better safe than sorry! We are experimenting now with processes to seal the papers. If we have success we will be putting up a new video with results. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@DonnaHarmon-x4j Hi Donna, That is cool that coconut oil works. That is something most everybody has in their kitchen. We are thinking about a Part 2 to this video, if we do it we will mention your tip. When using coconut oil or baby oil be sure you blot and rub your papers really well. To be sure they are totally dry leave them to air dry for about a week after using drying method in video. If you want to use them sooner test them overnight on a clean piece of paper weighted with a heavy book. (good idea even after a week). If they are not totally dry they will leave oil marks on other pages. Hair dryer helps to dry but we recommend leaving at least overnight to air dry and do the paper test method. Better safe than sorry! We are experimenting now with processes to seal the papers. If we have success we will be putting up a new video with results. Some crafters have sealed them with Rustoleum clear spray sealer. We have not tried this so we cannot say how it works. Thanks for your coconut oil tip we will be trying it. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@DevonKaren. Hi Kas, Yes, you will want to make sure the paper is really dry. Just be sure to take time rubbing and blotting oil off of the paper. Using the hair dryer works well to dry but you still need to let it dry overnight. To be safe, after you feel your paper is dry let it set overnight on a piece of clean paper and if it is still wet it will leave oil. Just leave it to dry and repeat this method until no excess oil appears. Thanks for watching! ❤😊 Patti and Debbie

@gAIL-w7r Hi, That is great that the stamped images work.We will have to give that a try, it would be a fun project. Did you get a chance to watch Part 2 to this video? The link to it is in the description below video. There is a problem with the oiled pages transferring some oil to other pages they come in contact with. We have experimented with many processes to remove the excess oil, with no success. However, we have seen a few other crafters spraying their oiled papers with Rustoleum Painters Touch 2X Ultra Cover Clear Gloss. They say they have had great success with this sealing the papers. We have not tried but we intend to do so. It seems to be the only solution for controlling the oil transfer. We will give it a try this week and have results in our video that will be on our channel Monday 10/28. Thanks again for your tip on the stamping! ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
Nice! I love making "vellum" paper. I have used baby oil in the past, will try drying with a blow dryer, as mine never seems to quite dry and will leave some oil on nother paper, hmmm. When I do the wax method, I'll add another paper and iron on top of my finished one, will do this several times with several sheets of paper to remove excess wax, then there's little risk of it melting onto another page with changes in heat in the house, lol. Okey doke, onto your wax paper video, sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing!!! 💜💜💜
@carolm9451 Hi again Carol, We have not tried the wax method yet but we are going to because we love the look of the vellum with baby oil and hope the wax method will be similar. We know in your other comment you mentioned spraying the oiled paper with a matte sealer, have you tried that on the paper by itself without the oil to get a vellum effect? ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@@PrintnPixelStudio Hey, sorry, went for an overnight with twin and just getting back. You DO NOT put anything on the paper, just the clear spray, it soaks in and dries, no mess. Again, you can print on your paper, I use basic 20 weight, and then just spray as even of a coat as possible. you can always go back and respray if you missed a section. I've also printed on piano paper roll and sprayed that, turned out gorgeous, so just an FYI 😊 I used to work for LeeWards, back in the day, lol, then Michaels bought us. I was also their floral designer so have tons of different sprays. Any brand will work, even gloss will work, but since I've used all the old stuff I had I now just use the matte. I bought some from Amazon at the beginning of the year, the have the best price, and I was ordering enough to get free shipping, here's the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y1BUEQE?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Walmart has a decent price and Menards, if it's on sale, if you have that store. It's just called Acrylic clear sealer, of course, Hobby Lobby and Michael's, but not always the best price. I believe I saw the orginal video from Nik the Booksmith...
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, when you're done using the sealer, turn the can upside down and spray until it's just air, this prevents it from clogging. 🤔 I found that out using glitter spray, a big waste of a lot of money when it's basically full and won't spray, jeepers!! 😡

Hello, how are you ladies doing? This is such a great idea. I am reading through the comment section and I am so impressed with how you are taking the time to explain the process of making sure that the papers are completely dry before putting them in journals. I read that you are going to be testing ways to seal the paper. Once the paper is as dry as it can get do you think that applying corn starch to it will help soak up the residual oil without changing the look of the paper? Tfs🙂💜.

Thank you for sharing this technique. I love the vintage look it gives the paper. Do you know how this treatment affects how long the paper will hold up? And will it do future damage to the paper and photos it comes in contact with?
@DebH-bl8ku Hi, We do not know how long the paper will hold up. We would think it will last for quite awhile but it is not archival. We would not recommend using it on any kind of paper that you might want to preserve for many years. We would not recommend using on photos you want to preserve. I might have missed it but will this work only on laser-printed images vs. ink jet? I've done the melted wax technique on ink jet prints, and that works good since the wax doesn't soak as much as the oil. I guess I should just try.

I have the same question. I like the look of faux vellum, but, at this time, I am unable to try for myself (no studio space at all, at least at this time). Greetings. I have tried this method and did not have good luck. Even weeks later it still would leave little spots of oily residue on other papers whether on top or beneath. I even tried a spray acrylic sealer, and it still did. I do not know if it has anything to do with the environment. Fortunately I didn't put it in a journal before testing it. It does produce a great result. If you do find a way to seal, please share. Thank you.

I had a similar problem. Ruined a couple of things near it & was so upset, thankfully not in a journal but I would be interested if a fix is found to seal properly. It’s beautiful but I have ruined a number of projects when mine bled onto them over a month or 2 after creating them & I wasn’t heavy handed with the oil. I will stick with your waxed paper technique or just buy vellum & print on it. 😊
@jl4643 Hi, Thanks for your comment. We like to hear from viewers who have tried a process or project and can give input about their experience. It is super helpful to all of us! As I mentioned in your previous comment we think we might have found a method that works to seal the oil into the paper. Keeping our fingers crossed. We will be sharing that information it it turns out successful! ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@Kat-gx3se Hi, These were printed using an ink jet printer and inexpensive copy paper. *Be sure you blot and rub your papers really well. To be sure they are totally dry leave them to dry for a week. If you want to use them sooner test them overnight (after original drying method) on a clean piece of paper weighted down with a heavy book. If not dry they will leave oil marks.(good idea even after a week). Hair dryer helps to dry but we recommend leaving at least overnight to dry and do the paper test method. Better safe than sorry! They are fun to do and they come out gorgeous! ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
I advise not trying it in your journal until you are sure it won’t bleed. I experienced that on my projects & it had been over a month afterward & I wasn’t excessive with the oil. It felt dry to the touch but bled little oil spots onto everything that rested against it.
@lisaalexander6335. Hi Lisa, Thanks for your questions. If papers are not fully dried there is a possibility this might happen. However, we have been researching and trying different techniques to seal the papers. We think we have found a winner! Still testing for a couple more days.

I also tried it with images I stamped with archival ink and it worked on that also.
Virgin unrefined coconut oil expeller pressed that is what I used and it turned out gorgeous
@DonnaHarmon-xrj We are going to try this for sure. ❤
@carolm9451 Hi again Carol, We have not tried the wax method yet but we are going to because we love the look
of the vellum with baby oil and hope the wax method will be similar.
I've also printed on piano paper roll and sprayed that, turned out gorgeous, so just an FYI 😊
I used to work for LeeWards, back in the day, lol, then Michaels bought us. I was also their floral designer so have tons of different sprays. Any brand will work, even gloss will work, but since I've used all the old stuff I had I now just use the matte.
I bought some from Amazon at the beginning of the year, the have the best price, and I was ordering enough to get free shipping, here's the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y1BUEQE?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
Walmart has a decent price and Menards, if it's on sale, if you have that store.

Tfs🙂💜.

Do you know how this treatment affects how long the paper will hold up? And will it do future damage to the paper and photos it comes in contact with?

Be sure you blot and rub your papers really well after applying the oil.We use old terry cloth towels to do this. Thanks so much for your comment. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
Thank you.
@saoneil908 Hello, Thanks so much for your comment. It is important to get feedback from viewers who have tried this project. We are testing lots of ways to seal the paper or to remove excess oil. Hopefully we can find a solution because this does produce a great effect and so many people are interested in doing it. We will be doing another video on this and will definitely include your experience. Thanks again for your input. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
I had a similar problem. Ruined a couple of things near it & was so upset, thankfully not in a journal but I would be interested if a fix is found to seal properly. Although I’m not sure it would be worth all of the time. Maybe better to print on vellum. But then I don’t want to jam my printer either.
Agree. This will always leave oil residue. Not a viable option.
@@jl4643 Hi, Thanks for your input and letting us know about your experience with this process. We will be passing this information on to all viewers. We will be doing a new video this weekend and showing all the results of our testing. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@@KimberlyGould-w2s Hi Kimberly, Thanks for your information. There needs to be more videos out there that talk about the negative aspect of this process. We will be putting out a video this weekend about our experience and testing we are doing to see if we can come up with a solution. We will talk about all of the methods we used, failures and success's (if any). ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
Will this work with ink jet copies or do they have to be a specific type of printer?
Hi Tana, All of our images are printed on an ink jet printer on inexpensive copy paper. Before you try this process please watch our Part 2 video we just listed on our channel. ruclips.net/video/QDIuI8HSx18/видео.html
Thanks for watching our channel! Patti and Debbie
I love this idea, can I use glycerine, and does it make the paper thinner. Cause I would like to make paper fabric.
@amandajoyr1. Hi Amanda, Wow, what a great idea! We have not tried glycerine so we can't answer this question. It is such a great idea we think we want to give it a try. If you try it, we hope you will let us know how it turns out. If you do happen to use baby oil be sure you blot and rub your papers really well. To be sure they are totally dry leave them to air dry for about a week after using drying method in video. If you want to use them sooner test them overnight on a clean piece of paper weighted with a heavy book. (good idea even after a week). If they are not totally dry they will leave oil marks. @@PrintnPixelStudio I will be interested to see if you find a way to seal them since mine bled onto things around it even over a month after making it. It is an amazing technique that would be a favorite for me if not for that issue 🙏😊
@@jl4643 HI, Check out our new video on test results for the oil issue. ruclips.net/video/QDIuI8HSx18/видео.html . ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
I've tried this a few years back and decided not to do it again as it actually took weeks for the oil to dissipate and worst of all I didn't like the end result with the cardstock used - I'm now thinking after seeing this that the cardstock or paper cannot be too thick for this method to work efficiently.
@christinabotha5652 Hi Christina, Thank you for your comment. Yes, we think the thinner paper is the way to go with this process. We are recommending to blot and rub your papers really well with a terry cloth or other thick towel.
It is such a beautiful effect Hope you’ve found a successful fix 😀 I will be on the look out for your video.
Were the pages printed with an ink jet printer or laser? I'm dying to try this!
@@PrintnPixelStudio Thanks , will do. Good to know the ink jet images will not smear. 😃
Hi, Check out our new video on test results for oil problem. ruclips.net/video/QDIuI8HSx18/видео.html. Patti and Debbie
Does oil comes off and stain the journal?
I advise not trying it in your journal until you are sure it won’t bleed. I experienced that on my projects & it had been over a month afterward & I wasn’t excessive with the oil. It felt dry to the touch but bled little oil spots onto everything that rested against it.
@lisaalexander6335. Hi Lisa, Thanks for your questions. If papers are not fully dried there is a possibility this might happen. However, we have been researching and trying different techniques to seal the papers. We think we have found a winner! Still testing for a couple more days. If it works we will be putting up a Part 2 to this video with our results. Right now we recommend to be sure you blot and rub your papers really well. ❤😊 Patti and Debbie
@@jl4643 Hi, Thanks for your comment we always like to get feedback from our viewers. We have been testing different oils and sealing methods and we think we have a winner. We will be testing our "winner" a couple more days just to be sure. If it is a success we will do Part 2 to this video with the results this weekend.
