    I play both the little Diatonics as well as the larger Tremellos. They lend themselves to two very different styles of music. After 675 years of playing these instruments I am just now transitioning to the Chromatic and I am using just about every You Tube video to make that transition. I am working my way through yours right at the moment. Learning a lot here.

    Two points: 1. The 14 hole - has notes down to G below middle C, which roughly equates to Keyboards and so is able to play from keyboard music.
    2. The Tenor - has 12 holes, but omits the top octave of a 'standard' 12 hole (the lower notes are much more useful than the high ones)

    @4:43 yeah absolutely, you play chromatic harmonica in a 'trap' too. I've seen many trapped people playing chromatic harmonicas, they're not playing great but you can't expect best from 'trapped' people. Once I saw a little man, trapped in a 'fox trap' playing pretty decent harmonica. You just can't do this with Diatonics.

    Thank you...The first thing i discovered about chromatic harmonica is that if i play draw notes with the slider out, than following blow notes must be played with the slider in and vice versus...In general, it seems that everytime i change the breath pattern, it somehow also requires changing the position of the slider...I don't know if that is the right logic, i'm just playing by ear, but that realy creates various jazzy patterns/scales in somehow easier and natural way...There must be something on it when said that chromatic is more suitable for jazz and diatonic more for blues...Of course on both we can play anything, but i mean basicaly or at the first shot chromatic seems to be readymade for jazz and diatonic for blues...And yes, maybe I'm wrong...As i said, i play only by ear...

      Thanks for commenting. I don’t see any kind of logic in your “change breath - change slider”, it seems to me that this just gives you a kind of scale that you like. But hey, if you like playing that way, why not, it’s all fine.

      Na balkanu postoje etno melodije ili folk muzika, zabavna pop muzika ,stargradske šansone kone je mnogo lakše svirati po sluhu, jer su skladnije od džeza i lakše je po sluhu zapamtiti takve melodije od džeza ili bluza.Ako bluz svirate diatonkom morate znati bending ili savijanje tonova upravo za dobijanje polutona koji nama diatonka.U suprotnom amo ne znate savijati tonove morate učiti hromatsku.Nimad ne učite po tabovima već samo po sluhu.

    And also, don't forget how great it is to improve lung health and conditioning! I have lung weakness, and that's why I play the Chromatic. I am also a fiddler, so I have a 14 hole so that I can use my fiddle music scores. Great video presentation. Thank you so much

    Hey, I wanted to ask you if I should get a diatonic first before transferring to a chromatic? or should I move immediately to a chromatic? I'm new to this instrument even the music theory is new to me. haha. your thoughts? thank you

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly  2 года назад +1

      Hi Leo. Personally I would advise you to go for a chromatic straight away, there is no need for a diatonic first.
      The diatonic is much harder to learn, and also the Size of the holes is very different, so starting with a diatonic does not help much.

    Nice lesson!! Do diatonic harmonicas sound louder than chromatics?? Thank you very much!!

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly  3 года назад

      Thank you Sebastian. Diatonic harmonicas are Not louder than chromatics, they are about the same in volume. It’s just that diatonics are often played with amplification, with a microphone and an amplifier.

      @@kazhilly Thanks. A few weeks ago I got my first chromatic harmonica (a Hohner 64 Chromonica) and the first thing a noticed was a difference in volume compared with my Marine Band in C. I have to figure out how to fix it. Having said that, I must say that getting a 16 holes harmonica was really good decision, the lower octave sounds amazing!, thanks for your advice!

    I have a 10 hole chromatic, so is that 2 and a 1/2 octaves?

    • @kazhilly
      @kazhilly  3 года назад

      Hi, Thanks for your comment. Yes, a 10 hole chromatic has 2 full octaves, and half an octave at the top. Basically it’s a 12-hole without the last 2 holes.
