Everybody said the same thing about Harbaugh until he started winning - the difference is Michigan has always been less talented (on paper). The past 3 years the composite talent gap has been 2-3 (OSU) and 14-15 (Michigan). That is a HUGE talent gap. The difference is culture and I don't think Ryan Day is a culture guy and Harbaugh is. Say what you want about the scandal but having an assistant coach coach in The Game and win against the second most talented roster in the sport says a lot about culture.

I’m a Buckeye born and raised in Cbus. Ryan Day will have one more make or break year, despite the entire city calling for his head right now. He’s who we have and emotions aside there is no logical replacement for him. I do think Kyle McCord should be fired, though. With respect to the game on Saturday I don’t think he should be blamed heavily BUT the quarterback play has been sub par all season. It was clear from the beginning that he wasn’t our guy since he was still fighting for his job until week 2 during this season. At the very least the QB1 job should open again. Day needs to swallow his pride and do two big things for him: Give up on the McCord project and relinquish any remaining authority he has with play calling. If these past three years haven’t humbled him idk what will man . . .

Michigan fan here and while I would love Cryin Day to stay for many years to come, this video is spot on. Ohio State has top recruiting classes every year, and Michigan just isn't near that. What harbaugh has done has been spectacular, but no way should OSU lose 3 straight, let alone getting blown out in your own stadium, and losing to a substitute teacher recently. Harbaugh got more slack because of what michigan went through the 7 years before him, the talent gap, and overall program gap. Even after 5 straight losses he was in serious heat with all that. You're telling me Ryan day gets another chance in his situation after 3 straight losses? Crazy

    Day has two main problems:
One, he doesn’t like the run game. People argue with me on this, but if you’ve watched him over many years, you notice the disturbing pattern that he abandons the run game as soon as he possibly feels he can. Take the most recent loss to Michigan. The one drive where Ohio State looked like they had taken control of the momentum of the game was the long drive where they exploited the Michigan defensive seams made possible by Michigan playing zone coverage toward Harrison. They scored and what did Day do? He immediately abandoned the run.
Two, he stubbornly refuses to adjust to facts on the ground. The uncomfortable truth is Ryan Day set up Ohio State to lose that game. His QB isn’t CJ Stroud, yet they went into that game with a plan to throw as if he is. They ran the ball just fine when they committed to it, and ought to have focused on feeding Hayden and Henderson. But because Ryan Day can’t resist the passing game he played right into Michigan’s hands. Will Johnson’s pick wasn’t a fluke. Will Johnson always jumps routes when he has a safety over the top, which he did. Calling a slant, even to Marvin Harrison, was a bad call. They ought to have run it, then punted. Michigan may have scored anyway, but not on a 5-yard field, and the Ohio State defense is a lot stronger this year than their offense.
Truth be told, Ryan Day would be most effective as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, where he can leverage his strengths and not feel pressured to do the River Dance before games.

Honestly I don’t disagree with anything your saying. I’m sick of the lackadaisical attitude from the team. There’s just 0 chance any college football program will fire a head coach who went 11-1. I’m not like a history major or anything but is there any precedent for that? Have there ever been a head coach of a major college program fired after averaging 11 wins a season? I wouldn’t mind if he was gone, but what can they really do? To top it all off we have a brand new AD after Gene Smith retired and to ask him to fire the active head coach and find a new one is probably way too much for someone who just got hired at a place like Ohio State. Again, I don’t disagree with any of the points you made, but he’s who we got for now. Can’t really do anything about it, realistically.

He struggled to beat Penn State, Michigan State, until at last he put the pieces together to build a really great team. Ohio State is a great team, but I feel they need to take that next step. Next year will be the make or break year for day. With the "New Big Ten," he won't be able to hide behind beating cupcakes anymore.

The difference is that Michigan does not have the Total Football Machine that Ohio State has. They have lower ranked recruiting classes, but better teams. That's coaching. And we Buckeye fans can't bitch about sign stealing anymore. Michigan is not the team they were when they had the Edge of Tomorrow advantage, but they are still better than Ohio State. In other words, Harbaugh is doing more with less, and that means Ryan has to go.

Harrison just needed to run down the center of the field (where he can outrun everyone) and then catch anything. Do that a few times and you win the game. Harrison should definitely decline to play in the Cotton Bowl. Why risk an injury before the draft just to help out Ryan Day?

Matt your lil bro statements are dumb. That’s already taken as Michigan state is little bro to Michigan and has been for years. I will cut you some slack as your an SEC guy. When you say little bro BIG10 people know you are talking about the Spartans, it’s not Ohio State. If you continue with this you are only embarrassing yourself. Now you know. Peace to you & good show again.

It won't matter starting next year. In 5 years the game won't mean anything with the new conference. By the time they play each other next year they will be 10-2 maybe 9-3 .

Ohio St fans should look at the history of my team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We fired Frank Solich, fired Bo Pelini, who was a 9 win coach. And why? Because neither were Tom Osbourne, and not able to win a National championship? Ryan Day is not Urban Meyer, but he's an 11 win coach. If you told me Nebraska could go from 5-7 to 11-1, but we lost to Iowa every year. I, and lots of other Husker fans would be fine with that. You fire Ryan Day, and that could be the downward spiral to Cornhusker territory. This is coming from someone who hates Ohio St!

I'm a Michigan fan, so maybe I don't totally understand the perspective.
    (1) For the sake of argument, with a 12-team playoff, Ryan Day can make the playoffs without beating Michigan. Last year he did it, and almost beat Georgia. His teams have come a lot closer to competing in those games than Michigan has. Honestly, with a 12 team playoff and a more competitive Big Ten, this rivalry is going to be a lot less important to the sport going forward anyway.
    (2) Michigan has largely failed to capitalize on its success on the recruiting trail. Ryan Day keeps recruiting at an extraordinarily high level. Jim Harbaugh keeps refusing to sign his contract extension and may go to the NFL. Some level (unclear what) of NCAA sanctions are coming down on Michigan.
Honestly, you guys need to sit tight and see how this is going to play out.

Reality is, Khaki Man is a better coach. He’s built Michigan back up to glory after being left a mess. Ryan Day inherited a dynasty and is managing to fumble the games that matter the most CONSISTENTLY.

Thank you for saying what I have been saying as a Ohio state fan since last year, I’m tired of having to fight and reason with other Ohio state fan of why Ryan day needs to be fired, and I always get the same old excuses “it’s only three games” “but look how good his record it’ll be silly to fire him over three games” at the end day those regular games they seem to care way more about, don’t mean shit if you’re aren’t able to win the big games or the big rivalry.
Now I can’t wait to see what other excuses more Ryan day apologist are going to say this time, right after a former Ohio state player said straight up what’s wrong with him.

Jim Harbaugh lost to Ohio State how many times Matt before he started winning, I guess it’s a good thing for Michigan that they stuck with him. I agree with you on so many things Matt but…. Even great coaches sometimes get stuck having to reload and having their team get the right pieces in place. Seen to many good coaches fired way too early as scapegoats for the sin of not having all the perfect pieces. Now Alabama and the Ohio States and Georgia are always going to get the most looks from recruits because of their outstanding placement year after year, but historical some of these teams have had to reload at some point and it took a bit of time. Sometimes it’s the teams own fans that are so toxic bad choices are made by AD on staff decisions.

As a life long Buckeye fan I think Ryan Day should not necessarily be fired he should however be demoted as HC…let’s not forget all the talent he has brought in, give him nothing else, he is great at recruiting, and it seems like he does pretty well keeping people in the program. But he can’t keep losing to those guys up north, I think they will give him one more year unfortunately, and if he doesn’t completely change his mindset I don’t know how we can back him up anymore

  • @jns1592
    @jns1592 9 месяцев назад +1

So if a coach loses his first 5 games against the rival team, he should no doubt be fired, correct? That was Jim Harbaugh. Ryan Day is the same coach that was a couple of plays away from beating my beloved Bulldogs last year.
Going by the logic that you and others are using, Harbaugh should have been canned in 2019. In fact, you can still find articles calling for that in 2019.
