In Judaism, we still use the Alph bet numeric value.
This system is called Gimatriya. I understand that the word comes from the word geometry.

Yes. In English it is spelt Gematria or incorrectly as Gemetria.
It is outlined in The "Sephir Yetzirah" or Book of Formations- which was written alongside the Hebrew Book of Genesis.
Edit 1: Coincidentally, it was used as the "Master Key" of an Esoteric understanding of Masonry, as outlined in Albert Pike's many writings on the Gematria of Freemasonry.
