- Today I'm swatching 3 different watercolor brands of Shell Pink to see what kind of color tones and values we can achieve. Then we color mix to see what shell pink has to offer.
Thank you for joining me, I’m excited to get painting. Enjoy!

Van Gogh and Schmincke call it Naples yellow reddish (PW6 PW4 PR242 PY42)
Thank you for letting me know that, I will have to try some!
❤ Kelly, this was lovely! I found your video because I have been looking at getting a Shell Pink, Potter's Pink, and a Jaune Brilliant #2 for my palette. All three I've tried to make, but can't seem to get them just right. DS Pyrrol Transparent Orange with touches of Quin. Rose and Buff Titanium gets really close to Shell Pink (add a little Goethite or warm yellow and it's almost Jaune Brill. 2) but I have to use a lot of water to keep it more transparent and not turn orangey. Besides, I won't have to mix a batch each time if I get a tube! 😊
Again, thank you so much! I love your mixes!
I love that pigment numbers are included so we can try our hands at mixing the same colors and seeing what we come up with. Have fun exploring and experimenting!
You made a great shell pink study. ❤
Thank you so much, it is a beautiful color to play with!
Love the way you did this swatching - very informative but also pretty!
It is so important to show the mixes and the beauty color mixing can create without a lot of effort. It is the magic of color that I thoroughly enjoy. Thank you for watching!
They are all pretty! Mission is my favorite of the 3. Now I need to find it.
Hi Teresa, Amazon has it in, order fast LOL
Ordered it! 🤣 I have a set of the PWC that includes their Shell Pink. I’ve been swatching that set tonight.
Yay you re almost at 1K! So proud of you. Love the swatches too, never thought of mixing shell pink with those shades. Brilliant!
Thank you so much and I love that you were inspired by Shell Pink too! Thanks for watching!
This was pretty and informative. I'm going to purchase that shell pink from Jackson's. Thank you, Kelly.
You are welcome and glad you found it helpful. I love to see how they mix with others, it gives you a better sense of the color I think.
Jackson's art supplies carries it.
Thank you for letting me know, appreciate it!
Do I NEED it?
No…
Am i GETTING it?
YES
I know right? It is such a beautiful color. Did you prefer one brand over the other?
I never thought about using this color for anything other than a skin and thought it was useless even for that, but I was sooo wrong. Now I want it when you used it.
Your comment just put the biggest smile on my face. I'm so happy to have inspired you with color possibilities for shell pink YEAH!
Beautiful and useful color combinations that I look forward to trying out very soon. Holbein Shell pink is a color I've always enjoyed mixing browns with but now I see even more options, especially with greens. Thanks!
I am so excited to hear this comparison showed you new ways to explore Shell Pink YEAH!
Which Shell Pink did you mix with the Naples Yellow, and which Naples Yellow was it? 😊 I agree with you, the mixes are lovely! Am thinking about mixing my own hue instead of buying a tube. I have a small sample of the Holbein one, but I like the Mission Gold one in your video. Besides being stronger tinting it looks more orange and toned down, and I really liked that effect - the greying out of the blue for example! Might experiment some in the future! Thanks for the comparison! ☺️
Hi Hannah, thanks for the question. For the yellow mix I used daniel smith naples yellow and mijello mission shell pink.
@@kellyhoernig Thank you! ☺️🙏
Absolutely gorgeous!
I totally agree. Shell Pink is such a favorite of mine and I loved the slight variations the other brands offered.
these colours and mixes are breathtaking! 😍😍 do you happen to have any of the jaune brilliant no 1 or 2 to compare as well?
What a great idea! I do have a couple of them but will look for a few more. I'll try to do that comparison in September.
Have never used this as a mix….but will definitely try no! Beautiful video! I also like the Juan’s Brilliant both 1 and 2 and also Kramer Pigments Incarnate 1 and 2….very unique! I think the PWC i a little different …it is a hybrid gouache and watercolor paint….but very nice!
I have just ordered a couple Jaune Brilliant's to experiment with. Stay tuned for that. I'm so happy that you are inspired to use them in mixes YEAH!
@@kellyhoernig😂😂😂 I came to this video for the Shell Pinks and was looking at Jaune Brilliant #2 next! Hope you've done that one.
After that, I'm on to Potter's Pink! (All three are beautiful, but are so different by brand, even with the less fugitive PR255 these days). I'm looking at PP by Roman Smzal, Schmincke, DS, WN, and Maimeriblu, and M. Graham's Terra Rosa, which seems to be their match for it.
LOVE MG paints! They're luscious, but made with a honey binder, so they never fully dry in the palette. Anyway! Lol Here I go! ❤
Shinhan PWC has the transparent Jaune Brill 2 watercolor, but also the hybrid. The gouache/watercolor hybrid is part of a whole line. I'm kinda curious ... !! 😊❤
It's like Holbein's Hydra-Duo water-soluble oil color ... I'm like, wait, whaaa? 😂
@@urban_fox4658 I am waiting for one more Jaune Brilliant to come in and then I get to tape it. Look for the comparison sometime in October. Now, potter's pink, ummm that is a good one too! Let me see what I can do about that one.
@@kellyhoernig Thank you so much for letting me know! I'll be listening out. Yes, Potter's Pink is a weird one, but some artist friends and online pros swear by it.
Green and pink mix name "Moss Ochre"
That would be a great name of course it has two of my favorite colors in the title, what's not to love about that!
I understand how hard it can be when you’re totally engrossed in what you’re doing. But it would be nice to have some talking about the differences. You’re finding the consistency of the pay anything other than just plain silence while you’re painting this out in real time, just to point out after watching lots of videos maybe some overlay music all speed up until you get to the point where you talk about the paints. Otherwise it’s a very long silent gap. I really love that you’ve done a comparison on these colours, though I hear people talk about this particular colour quite often, but I’ve never seen anyone do a review on it it self. I’m very curious about this colour in gouache Holbein
I totally understand and there was music however there was a copyright issue so I had to remove it. Sorry about that. This was my first comparison, the others are a bit better.
I wish there was pigment information
Pigment information is not important to me because I am working in sketchbooks. Dr. Oto Kano here on RUclips has a huge resource on her website all about pigments and different watercolor brands. You might find the information there.
Oh 😓 I thought you were making the videos for us. My bad sorry.
@@karenirving7088 not everyone likes the pigment information that's why I shared Dr. Oto's info.
