Hooves to horses/cows are similar to how fingernails are to us, so they will feel the pressure of what he's doing but not pain or very minimal

i’ve seen people use a blow torch and char the hoove. it’s supposed to make it easier to use a knife on, almost like how melting hoofs makes glue.
