I liked playing the tiny map. The key is to don't overbuild in the early stages--keep everything down to one building max and your population very low. Once you get to where you have a comfortable stockpile of resources, then you build in the barren areas and think about how to combat the badtide seasons. I went with blowing out the back of that stream near the waterfall and diverting water out that way when it happens. I then went nuts and turned the "poo water" area into my industrial zone while I went on a plan to divert clean water to "greenify" the barren lands on the other side. It was fun and calming because I wasn't in dire straits of maintaining a large colony.
i like 3 breeding pods and only basic needs. population settles at roughly 30.
Yeah, it's already longer than season 3. But it won't be much longer without breeding pods.
Now that district distances are not a thing, should you move the district center off the green area?
6:38 reggie’s wife could learn a thing or two.
Damn Matt, you almost looked competent here !
Almost. Where are the bredding pods ?
Also, you don't need to divert the bad tides if you create a permanent green space on top of those hills. Should be safe from contamination AND unaffected by draught. All you need is dynamite (to make a 3x3 hole), a fluid dump and lots of water reserve (which you should have anyway). Alternatively, you can wall-off with leeves a 3x3 space and dumb water in it but it's a lot more costly log wise.
As an added bonus, industry can still run during bad tides !
3:34 😂 and so, the priority gate has started hahaha
Just after he said he wouldn't 😂😂
10:08 I have NO doubt this is Josh.
Same. It's definitely him.
I just discovered Timberborners, saw an episode with poopwater volcano or something, so I've started working my way through the movie supercuts.
Glad to catch the start of a season!
I don’t normally comment here but, having not watched the video, or played the game, I’m gonna recommend irrigation canals, and some sluice gates to store water for farming during bad tides.
Good luck, have fun!
Dynamite is more like episode 5 stuff.
they changed the balance in the last update. large reservoirs are not worth it anymore since you can build large storage barrels, that magicaly let you store more water in them than in comparison to "free" water, and irrigation channels only work when 3 tiles wide (irigation ponds 3x3 are better).
Breeding Pod
where ??
In season finale.
@@tokul76 So next episode then.
Seems he forgot how to Ironteeth.
It's in the bedroom
If you actually want to be efficient, then its recommended that you have more beavers than workplaces, but, keep extra beavers employed as haulers/builders in low priority workplaces so as a result your factories will work non stop (this is important on small maps such as this). I'd also recommend putting decor pieces and monuments of various kinds in either workplaces or on top of lodges so that beavers will charge up their need for them easilly as they spend most time in theese places.
TimberBONERS is back
This comment goes hard.
@@nlald😂
my TimberMuscles are getting stronger with this one
E
something is rising and it isn't the water level
You're doing great, pausing and playing on slow, prioritize forester.
Two tips; extend the work hours until you have the campfire. And a small warehouse besides the food source, so they don't walk so far.
Overhangs and platforms make this map much easier to get all the monuments, not sure it would be possible without them. Had to build some crazy tiered reservoirs when I did this map, sluice gates now make it possible to have sections of a reservoir with higher walls and still have them all drain down to a common bottom layer.
i must confess i picked up timberborn on steam after watching a few of your seasons... not to mention it was on sale.
mistakes were made... and i quickly realised that one does not just play for 1 hour on timberborn... to declare timberborn a time sink would be a understatement...
... its a bloody time black hole! 😂
i hope we see some new beaver clans in the future. not to mention expansion to have a steam workshop for modding
in relation to your playthrough, consider planting mangroves in the water before your damn for either food (only requires like kolrabi and berries) or for the wood value (2 logs per mangrove)
Steamworkshop modding is already a thing?
So will he forget to build breading pods?
Guaranteed 🤣
For more trees i need stairs... says Matt.
Here i am facepalming that Matt STILL HASNT LEARNED that in this kinda situation the MOST important initial research is the FORESTER and NOT stairs... >_> bruh!
nice to see this series coming back again
Not sure where the info of beavers collecting water from poo water, but if it is 100% poo water beaver stops pumping water.
Nope the pumps have a filter. It just slows them down.
it just slows down, but it will still pump.
Oh nice to know, I aways thought they stop pumping.
@@brucesmith765 If it's 100% poo water, 100% should be filtered out?
@@brucesmith765 Partial contamination slows them down. Full contamination they can't pump.
I was just playing on the tiny map and realised that the best place to put the farmhouse wasn't on land but over water. So it could hit both sides of the clean river. Houses and non-industry buildings could go up in the mountain. Industry could go next to the poo water.
I kept having the problem of the farm house flooding when I put it over the water whenever the drought ended
Season 9 already?! I hope this one is longer than Season 3.
And apparently so do you! 😂😂
Ohhhh I love this map! When I got Timberborn, it’s the first map that I played! I didn’t have the Iron Teeth unlocked. The windmills were a lifesaver for real! I built this GIANT housing tower, it was so much fun!
Well, since water pumps still work in bad tides. Maybe a water dump could help with your farms?
Just make a small pond somewhere.
2:45 He could’ve done it diagonally with 2 but the beavers couldn’t cross. he isn’t an architect
ARCHITECTURAL TENDENCIES
Horror movie of the year
I’m actually playing this same map on max difficulty but with the other faction. I didn’t have any protection on the first bad tide but survived by having food and water stored. Now I have a full power grid, 1000 logs, 1500 food of of every variety. It’s been a fun challenge.
That's an efficiently-shaped depression, right in the middle.
This is the map I run on every major patch new. My best for Diorama with badtide and on Hard Mode has been 30 cycles.
Hmmm... I played on the older version of Diorama that had no badwater source. I have a temple (which they renamed to agora for some reason - I wonder if the devs are satanic or something - they renamed shrine into pondering place too - almost like a euphemism for a toilet).
Also, don't you remember that Iron Teeth breed via breeding pods? You haven't built any.
good method to auto sustainable forest? checkered, one tree can seedling 4 sides, so you guarantee that all side can grow
YAYYYYYYY he noticed :D

"[As I've commented many times before] Diorama, Experimental, Iron Teeth, Hard mode, Death=restart or save reload."
I'm pretty good at this game and did this a month ago (after first comment), it's SO hard to do this map or "poocano" with no deaths but that's the challenge!
Well, "no deaths" is optional but even an architect could do it with deaths allowed.
Maybe at some point do *hard/iron teeth/zero deaths* on a revisit of poocano (eruption), I've tried to do it multiple times and there was only 1 way I managed it.
Tragically, he's not doing this one on experimental for some architectural reason. You can see he doesn't have the option to build overhangs.
@@ApocolypseChild He's missing a ton of updates and hotfixes, but I suppose we should be thankful he's actually trying something difficult for once. It's a bit like how he has a serious and non-serious cities skylines. He's inspired so many others to get this game over all these years of playing... still can't figure out the employment(prioritisation)/dams/path routing/staircases :D
But the learning is fun.
Longer than season 3 already🥳
you know ive never seen RCE work with resevoirs to green up the map, surprised he doesn't abuse the water dumps
Welcome back to timberborners :D
It a completly new season
Lets hope we dont commit beaver treason
Oh the surprised I have in store
Im gonna build things properly
And maybe not even spam high priority
Though lets be honest here when im under pressure my architectural tendencies do tend to appeeeaaaar
You should build a water tower on top of the water source!
keep your water supply high and gain some extra space
If there were some way to expand the map at great cost, sort of like buying new grids in Cities Skylines 1 (but nowhere near as cheap), I think maps like this would have more potential.
Just finished my Diorama on hard with Folktails. Interesting map, need to do stuff with a minimum number of beavers, use starting wood carefully, stuff like that. And honestly windmills of folktails are so good here.
Also imaging spending 70 science to go for a couple of oaks instead of a forester for 60 science on a map like this))0)
What? He already had the forester in building progress before going for the stairs.
Cycle 2 and not a single breeding pod build yet, the death wave is going to hit hard😂
as iron teeth in hard mode it's realy important to get population growth going asap.
go 24h workday and build 4 woodcutters and 3 breeding pods. without amenities besides housing and a 20 hour work day you can sustain ca 30 beavers. when the first breeding pod is done unassign 1 worker (he will start filling up the breeding pods with berries) and place the building designation for a water pump and a storage container close by.your beavers should be able to finish this within 24 hours.
on day 2 you start by building 1 farm, 100 kohlrabis and a scientist. assign only one planter to the farm and pause it once he finished planting. once your kohlrabi are grown place a second farm and assign 2 gatherers. this should sustain your population for quite some time. once your stored berries are running out place a gatherer and a small berry storage close to your breeding pods.
while waiting for kohlrabi you can start bulding your damn and once thats finished you should have enoug science to get into forestry.
so you have a stable colony from day 2.
Season 9! IT'S HERE ENGINEERS, IT'S HERE!
Breeding pods make new Beavers.
If Matt spends another entire season without discovering sluice gates I'm gonna...well I'll keep watching but I'll get huffy about it.
Bloody difficult map that is. Best of luck - to your poor beavers 🤣
Decent start, he's getting better lol
Don't forget that you need to start growing baby beavers otherwise you will lose the beaver population.
2:52 you can do it diagonally with just 2, just add a small warehouse to you can walk on top to get to the last one (then delete and recover the logs)
Damn, I just started yt channel and already I recorded few diorama episodes of playthrough 😅 But on normal, I played more than enough hard maps at this point 😆 And in Polish, so also different audience. But still, what are the odds that my favorite gamer-engineer start almost same idea in nearly the same time?
I don't know what it's about watching you play Timberorn... But I am addicted...
can't believe we're at season 9. still gonna be around when we hit season 19, keep it up mate!
Don’t let them die again so fast
Surviving in a small map?
*Mindustry instinct kicks in*
Last time I did this map on hard mode I bee lined for levee/floodgate and built levee's at the bottom of the clean waterfall then 2 floodgates so that when they were +up it pushed the water off the map. It took something like 18 levee's and 2 floodgates, so around 250ish logs. The goal is to make the path off the map 2 wide or else the bad water will overflow, I never had a problem with bad water after that.
Yo, Skye Storme called you out! He said the strongest shape WASN'T the strongest shape!
You could name it Shorter than a season 3 * question mark *
Yeah, floodgates can solve all the issues, however in long game you might want to make a pool where you can keep water for bad tides
I laughed so hard at the long name call out😂
On Patreon it says my name is 128/50 and it won't let me delete anything... I may have broken it
So it was you 😂
with sluice-gates you can automate the badtide bypass
Not playing experimental
he's not running in experimental mode, he's on the main branch. no sluice gates.
@@AKStovall never realized that was a part of that. but that makes sense.
That’s the current map I’m using I have no room left on the ground 😂
Two questions- Is this experimental? How far can you build off the map?
That's a double negative!
not update 6.
@@RealCivilEngineerGaming Tragic, you'd actually stand a chance if this was in experimental. Or if you built breeding pods. 🤣
I'm currently playing this map. Divert the badwater right off the side of the map as early as you can. Tnen build a levy wall around the low border of the map, turning the river area into a big pond. You'll thank me later.
Diorama is deceptively difficult. Love it though!
I've been binging your stuff lately while working, I love the variety of games you play. It keeps it fresh!!
I love your timber born series! You need more of them fr
small storage only uses like 3 logs, and you can use them as platforms to cross water.
Yay! Hard mode! The struggle is more fun.
FYI: IIRC, a single beaver drinks 3 water a day and eats 3 food a day. I think.
My favorite series is back with a brand new season !
how did I predict that every 3 seasons is small map
For a constant supply of logs you could try planting a bit of trees everyday so after like 10 days you will always have logs everyday instead of a lot of logs every 10 days.
E.g.: you can plant a row or 2 of trees then next day you can plant 2 more rows and then repeat that process.
first badtide, those planted trees are gone. Maybe start using the those badtide proctetion blocks? (dont remember the name).
Tears on the season!
Better to just build floodgates to divert badwater off the map, doesn't require any metal.
Unleash the power of skyscrapers and watertight buildings!
More water storage, get aggressive on water.
Consider a hauling post to boost pumper efficiency . Cycle 7 is the start of poo!
Breeding pods , you architect!!
Newwww seson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd guess "Shorter than season 3" is a fitting statement. That map gets annoyingly hard on hard.
edit: Congrats on surviving longer than season 3! +vuvuzela sound+
But I've been wondering. At what point do you intend to put down a breeding pot?
Your beaver colony won't survive if you don't get some babies on the go. For now I'd recommend 1 breeding pod, just to maintain your population level until you've got things in a better state.
Sluices... sluices and dynamite ASAP so you can build a run off for badtides, that's the way
Going from Rip & Tear to RCE is some crazy whiplash
For a self seeding forest, just mark alternating rows of trees.
NEW SEASON LES GO
Building berry storage on the opposite side of the map from berries, like an absolute architect.
you should make your videos 4k!!!!
How about some Breeding Pods?
Funny thing is I just started playing this game again yesterday and this was the map I picked. Though I am playing on normal.
Matt just wondering 3 minutes in is there the update that allows for the little devices you can build which prevent the spread of infection on land that would be nice on this map
"architect tendency to appear"??? You ARE secretly an Architect
Nobody is born an engineer (except beavers, obviously), we are all born architects and must choose to be engineers.
19:55 "dont know a good method to self seed a forest"
Checkerboard pattern
In hard mode, the first bad tide is season 6 usually.
Also in hard mode? In regular it's also 6. But regular seasons are longer of course 🤔
@@edopronk1303 Pretty sure. I went back and watched Skye Storme’s play through… but he was on update 6. Update 5 might be earlier. I’ve not had a chance to sit down and start a new play through in a few weeks myself so I can’t recall 😓
I've had it hit me in hard mode as early as cycle 3. That was on experimental to be fair.
@@ApocolypseChild well dang. Hope Matt figures out something fast 😂
Oh no, not again, these poor Beavers
He has forgotten to make the baby beaver thing that Ironteeth use. I wonder if he will have the shortest season due to no baby beavers.
Matt, you forgot breeding pods XD
Finally, it's 9th season of timberborners!!!
Why do the beavers that make planks prefer to rent?? Because they are TimberBoarders!
Yay! New season!!
i love how rce expends more resources to get to resources than he actually gains from said resources
7:34 maby put the where they plug the food?? Like, in hard mode. It very important to keep the walking routes as small as possible. Walking mean they are not working.
you need breeding pods and way more water storage
For the guy with the insanly long name you should just acronym the whole thing then maybe it would fit XD
at this point they should add an engineer beaver with a hardhat
Hey Matt,
Remember it take 3 water per day per beaver
Oh, fr? I thought it was only two.
