I plan to do no-buy steps. 1-day, 3-days, 1-, 2-, 3, weeks, then 1-month, 3-months, 6-months, 9-months and finally a 1-year no-buy year. I know myself. I have to start small or I’ll quit after a few days. Thank you, Austin; I appreciate you so much !!
Good strategy, I like it. I'm doing the thing where if I am compelled to shop online (and I do have a compulsive shopping problem), I leave all the stuff in my cart, do NOT complete the sale, and walk away for 48 hours. About 90% of the time, I end up not making the purchase because the compulsion has passed. Saving money feels SO much better than clogging my life up with cr@p I end up not even wanting!
I'm doing a 'NO BUY' for *6 years,* only buying food and essentials, I'm playing 'catch up' on my retirement, my house is stocked with triple of everything I need materially, so I'm following a super-strict budget. I've been doing it for months now, and it's been amazingly easy. The feeling of accumulating money is so much more rewarding than spending it. I'm kinda mad at myself for how much money I wasted in the past buying useless things
Amazing!!! I’m right there with you. In twelve months I want to have my debt paid off and enough money for my first investment/flip property. I plan to make this my lifestyle so I can retire early.
I plan to do 6 months no spending. I have noticed I use spending to cope with negative emotions and I want to become more intuned with my hobbies and overall well being ❤
Next year is gonna be a yes buy year for me : new car, and new iPad. ...but as I planned this many years ahead, the money is ready and I won't have any debts. 😊
I did my 1st no buy challenge in Jan 24 & I was so shocked by how much money I saved that I kept going all year! So 3 weeks left. Most helpful thing was tracking every dollar I spent daily & putting a tick where I didn't spend anything. I'm so proud of myself, especially as I'm on a fixed low income. 2025 will be an action replay! ❤
Wow! That Sounds great!!! Congratulation! I am an impulse shopper and I also wanna heal. I am doing a no Buy year Next year. I am Tracking my Money and I was shocked how much Money I spend on clothes… 😮
Hoo Boy! I am a South African State Pensioner on an income of R2190 per month plus a small (very small!) side hustle. Save? SAVE??? On THAT amount?? But in February of this year a good friend of mine sat me down and said she thought I could. I thought, 'Sweetheart, you are NUTS!' But I agreed to have a bash and we settled on R300 per month. And because I trust her I agreed to hand her the money to put in her safe. Not only that but I gave her R600 that month for January as well as February. It is now December. I am up to date. And in about 3 of this years months I have actually doubled up because I had to go to Cape Town to visit a relative and had to 'take out' some money which I wanted to put back. And do you know what? I have HARDLY NOTICED IT. And I am hoping to give her an extra R400 before New Year to bring the R3600 up to R4000 which is a nice round amount. And next year I hope to do better. January will be a No Spend month as I will be fasting and in any event have enough food in my freezer. I want to do a TEFL course... I'm very excited.
In 2019 I did a no spend/low spend year. I set a budget and stuck to it. It was a semi-tight budget but reasonable. I budgeted in $20 a week of guilt free spending. By March I found I often forgot about that because so many things I loved cost no money--reading, bicycling, watching movies online and seeing friends.I let all my friends in on what I was doing and told them I wanted to include them in meeting up for things that didn't cost money. No drinks after work unless we shared a bottle of wine at someone's house. One night we wanted to make a summer punch so we each brought an ingredient to my home and had a glorious night. No dining out for me. A few times I would actually still meet them at a restaurant with the understanding that I would not be ordering anything. I would hang out with them while they waited for a table. Then go with them to the table and talk and laugh until their food came and then I would exit. We had a glorious time of at least an hour catching up at no cost. (They wanted to pay but I told them my choices should not cost them money.) We attended free plays and music in the parks. We went on long walks and to farmers markets. My favorite was we once met up at Powell's Books, a huge bookstore and each had an identical scavenger hunt list of things like dog, monster, kitchen item, storm..etc. We split up and each took pictures on our phones of the items. Then we left the store and had a picnic while we shared each others pictures. It was so much fun and cost nothing. My point was to break the consumer habit. I stopped wandering stores when bored or sad. I stopped ads from hitting my inbox. I never went on Amazon and just took the time to shop local. At the end of the year I'd broken the consumer habit, paid off all my debt for the first time in over a dozen years and had saved enough to put 25% down on a small condo in the heart of the city. That was in 2020 and now with those habits I'm paying off my 30 year mortgage next month which is in 4 years. The kicker? I was 61 years old in 2019. It's never too late and I love my life! Anything is possible. Anything at all.
@@Kelly_Ben What a nice thing to say. Trying that experiment taught me a lot. It did take me a while to break the consumer habit but it was so worth it. Thank you again for the kind comment. Happy holidays!
I did this ! Spent a year decluttering the house. Didn't bring anything into the house (except food and cleaning products) and purged some negativity in my life. Felt great. The key was giving myself a year to declutter . I couldn't buy anything until I'd finished the house.
This is very very smart. I didn’t think of retirement till I was nearly 40 when a manager at work advised me to get my free retirement counseling. Thank god I listened to him.
My husband and I practiced a No Spend in 2020 with a goal of saving $26k for a downpayment for our first home. We had no kids. At the end of that year, we had 26k 👏🏻👏🏻 Since then we’ve practiced No Spend Months, No Spend Winters, No Spend “10Days” or even No Spend Weekends and have meet more smaller goals. We now have 2 kids and 1 income. Our next goal is a No Spend from December 21-May 31 👏🏻👏🏻 I think it’s “easier” when basic human needs are still being met. Good homemade food, free activities and simple desires help too. This lifestyle feels normal
I am planning a 'no buy year in 2025'. My why is healing from being an impulsive spender and to better use what I have. I will spent time thinking about the rules for this. Thank you for putting this out there.
I love the idea of a no-buy year and mainly making the lists, not so much for saving money, but to be kinder to the planet , not so much junk, rubbish, waste and pollution !!! ❤👍🏻😀🤩
During the pandemic I did not go into stores except for groceries. My bank account soared during that time. I stopped going to coffee shops and made my coffee at home and took a thermos to the beach or for a drive instead. Packed homemade lunches for outtings. A good picnic is just as much fun as eating in restaurant. This year I want to combine spending less with selling off excess.
3 months. Let's go!! I've been spending money non-stop like I don't have a mountain of debt I'm completely ignoring. It's time to really take my finances seriously and focus on my future instead of instant gratification.
I definitely live in a not buying mode. I plan ahead as much as possible. I am going to a close friend wedding in March , I already set the limit $ for gift + my dress. What I have is enough for me and my wants are not extravagant. A night out with friends is always good, $50 is the most expensive night that I have spent.
I'm already doing this challenge since January 2024 and so far I'm totally enjoying it. I noticed I value my purchases way more than before and avoid impulse shopping. Gaining more control over my finances and having more money in my savings account makes me feel at ease. Of course I had to adjust my allowed spending list a couple of times, but the amount of allowed items stayed the same (just crossed out and replaced some options). This challenge was so much fun that I'll continue it in 2025. :D
As a person who lives mostly a no buy life, as in I have a detailed budget, track every expenditure, live below my means, and buy very few non-essential items because I just like a simpler life that's more eco-friendly, this is the best video I've seen to explain the no buy concept. Yes, knowing your why and setting goals is crucial to success. Thank you for doing this. I hope it is helpful to many people trying to use this concept to reach their goals.
I'm doing a No Buy 2025. I spent a lot in 2024. I buried my youngest child and it has crushed me. I will try to create a new normal in 2025 bc I died with her in 2024.
So sorry for your loss. My Dad had to do the same in 2023. We miss my sister dearly but know we have to keep going. She would not want us to be unhappy.
Oh my, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you feel as no parent should ever have to experience that. I wish you the best on your journey ahead.
I failed the last two years at my no buy year aspirations. Third times a charm 🤞 I know my mistakes, and what changes I need to make in order to succeed. I’m ready! I started yesterday lol my biggest issue is the internet. I quit IG (I’m not on anything else) and today is my last day of RUclips. I want to feel like I’m living again in the days before internet. Slow living, no outer/online influence. Going within.
I live in CA and the cost of living combined with inflation has forced me into a no buy these past few years. 2025, will be no different! I only buy what is an absolute must, zero wants and I only replace what has to be replaced. I still use my iPhone 10, she runs like a champ and cell service is through Visible @ $25 a month. I’ve drastically cut corners and I’m thankful for these lessons. There’s no going back.
That is still expensive. You should try Mint and you only pay annually at a fraction of the cost. There are different plans but you pay more with Visible.
@@jacqueslee2592 Hi! I looked into Mint and where I live, the cell service isn’t the best. At some point, I may look into seeing if they have expanded their cell towers to give my area more coverage. Thanks for suggesting Mint.
Cynthia, I started in January this year with a goal of ZAR 300 per month. It is now December and I am not only up to date but I want to add an extra R400 to the R3600 to bring it up to a nice round R4000. I am SO proud of myself!
I have to do this. My husband died last year and I need to get my finances in order now. I'm terrified as my income (Social Security) is greatly reduced. But my home is paid for, so that's a blessing.
I like the "setting ground rules" part as that helps with focus. I'm doing a No Buy Year because I had to spend my emergency fund this year and I need to build that back up in 2025. Thanks for the video, El Agustin!
this is the first no buy video I’ve watched but I’ve seen these pop up in my algorithm! I did somewhat do that this year - it helps having a small house and hating clutter - I stopped even tempting myself with shopping because I knew the clutter isn’t worth what I think I want 😂 but it’s a very good idea to write down the needs, kind of needs, and wants! writing things down makes things more powerful.
I’m privileged in that I work from home full time. I also live in northeast TN where the cost of living is much lower than metropolitan areas. 2024 has been my reset year. My boy (cat) became very ill and eventually passed. The treatments and vet bills were incredibly expensive. Through the loss of my baby, I was faced with what really matters in life. That had a direct impact on my frivolous spending.
I always buy my shampoo, conditioner, face wash, cosmetics and work clothes for the next year on Black Friday. I usually save 40% to 50%! I won't need to spend money on these items, and i won't need to go shopping. Has helped me save money because i don't shop and spend money on things i don't need!
This sh@t is actually working in my life. After the 15 months of TEXAS probate HELL I just went through. WOW!! Money can burn a hole in your pocket!! Nah' I've been watch El Augustine. I need to rest!! More time!! No more rushing and carrying a heavy burden!
I’m am going to do the no buy year challenge to be more mindful with my spending habits, start getting out of debt and take a small vacation and visit grandkids. Already wrote my lists that you recommended! Thank you very much. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas and a prosperous New year …. Feliz Navidad
I've been in a No Buy for 3 years. I definitely know my 2025 why. And i know what my next Why is going to be when i do it again in 2026. 😂 No Buy forevermore ❤
1. To shop my house and closet (I have so much stuff). 2. To minimize my impact on the environment by using what I have and taking care of what I have. 3. I am sensitive to the current and future political environment and it seems like a good time to minimize my consumerism...
I'm doing 2025 as a no buy year. I started Dec 1 to get an extra month onto my year. I did it so far! I cut my own hair, I scratch cook my own food, etc. I am doing it to build my savings up a bit. It gives me something to do with my type A personality. hahaha. I always have to have a challenge to be me. I did it by backwards planning. I wrote down my savings goal per month and made a list of my total fixed expenses per month. Then what's left I can spend for food. It worked well for me to do it that way.
Excellent idea for the coming year! I wonder if you might explore why buying feels so good to so many people (if you haven't already): is it just the dopamine effect? If it is, and we stop making non-essential purchases, how do we find a dopamine substitute? Also, how about collecting? Why do people collect and is it always a negative thing (increasing clutter, purchasing non-necessities, etc.)?
My first attempt at a No Buy year is this coming year, 2025, and my why is to save money and pay down debt. Mindfulness and Gratitude would be very welcome additional benefits too!
I've been doing a no buy challenge for almost a decade now. I've been purging my closet and been giving clothes away to people who need them. I no longer donate to the thrift store since their prices have gone up and it's becoming unnafordable. However, I budget myself $50.00 a week to eat out. Other than thant, just the basics. for those of you who like to go to bars/clubs, budget yourselves. When I used to go, I would only take a $20.00, my ID, and that was it. That's how much I allowed myself to spend. That was enough to buy someone a drink, and myself a drink or two. I know times have changed, so maybe increase it to $25.00, but not an extra penny. Remember, every time you waste your money on something, it means someone else made money off of you.
Oh, I am doing a 4 year “no spend” challenge! I have already stocked up my freezer and have a little pantry of goods. I have already stopped buying new and shop second hand whenever possible. I think in 2024, I bought a new skirt from Target in May and it was basically destroyed after a few wears. I’ll be saving most of what I am not buying, but I am planning to donate funds to various organizations that are now in jeopardy…. I am really glad to see so many people doing this. ❤️❤️ We’ve got this! Should also mention to support your local library-- lots of free resources like Ebooks, Audiobooks, Music, movies and TV. I also found out my library has subscriptions with several places like The NY Times and The NY Times Cooking( I was paying for this and now cancelled because it’s free with my library card!)
I will start doing it for 30 days only first because I am not good at following strict rules I have stage lV cancer and sometimes I need to treat myself in order to get going 😁 Happy holidays to all!
I am planning on doing a no-buy month for January. I tend to spend money when I'm anxious for the holidays. My love language is gift giving! And I always worry someone wont feel special enough. I am ashamed to say I bought things for people and subsequently forgot about them. Still, I will give them the gifts none the less, but I can't believe just how much I bought! I am giving my brother seven presents. SEVEN PRESENTS! We are both in our early 30s! Some gifts are IOUs ( Didn't have money at the time to buy him a birthday gift in August. That counts for 2 of the gifts) And one gift is a game that we will all play on christmas eve but I heard him say was a real hit at friends-giving. I could go on and on. But yeah, didn't have the budget in August and don't have the budget now. I literally transferred 1000 dollars out of my savings to cover the cost of holidays this year (including travel, excess food, and gifts). Maybe I'll make a youtube response video to this to let you know how it goes! :)
Everyone! Please commit to cooking at home the rest of the year if at all possible. Don't wait until the new year to get your spending under control. You can do it!
This is awesome!! I'll be back with you soon. My flat roof needs fixed, my heater is getting old AND I'll need a new fridge soon. So, finding you is not a coincidence. P.S. I'm addicted to buying candles🕯
I’ve been doing “Low Buy Years” instead of no buys cuz I know myself. It has worked out cuz even tho I haven’t stuck to it 100%, I’ve spent less than last year and I’m way more mindful with my spending. I plan to be more disciplined next year cuz I want to pay my car off and I have a balance of $25,000. So, let the games begin!!
Planning January-April 2025; have tracked pre-no buy and started with low buy. I like that this video put the 'what to buy' list 1st. That planning is what I needed. Thanks!
I did a no buy year in 2022, it was so empowering to take charge of my spending. I will be doing a no buy year in 2025. I want to increase my Emergency fund and save for a vacation.
I feel like I spent too much money this Christmas season so I am doing a no buy year for January with a friend to hold each other accountable. Also I have a new furnace and roof to pay for in 2025. If it works out well we want to extend it to February and March. If I can do the 3 months I might extend it month by month after that. Our rules are pretty simple, no “discretionary” spending. Can eat out once every two weeks. Doesn’t include things like haircuts, groceries, etc. Our focus is really going to be for things we buy that we really don’t need (for example art and craft supplies, makeup, clothing, books, etc.)
I don't buy hardly anything I don't need. If I need clothes etc, I will go to thrift stores. Even food I try to look for clearance sales. Eat out maybe twice a month at the most. In other words, stay frugal.
We are working on paying off our mortgage this next year. My husband is retiring in 2025. It's time to get it gone!🎉 Thank you for all your tips and motivation.
Into a 18 months no buy challenge, already 4 months. Habits are changing a lot and motivated !!! It is a life changing for the best. Thanks for your inspiration !
Excellent video Austin, I'm doing the challenge for the full year simply to get away from materialism, I have more than enough stuff, so from January 1st,it's only essentials which of course includes things like Birthday presents for family and friends.I think it might be a good support for each other if everyone doing the challenge posted on how they're finding it at the end of each month. Hope you're enjoying the Christmas and have a Happy New Year
Hello-I will do the no buy year for 2025.l will keep track on a monthly basis to discover what I have saved and use that as an impetus to continue to the year. I will be saving for retirement. Thanks for all you do!
I do no buy week by week. I'm weeding plastic out so I'm replacing it bit by bit. My husband needs dress shoes. Our brother in law may not make it to 2025. We may be going to a funeral. He only has sneakers and work boots. I'm buying plastic to help block the cold out. The end...at this point. No TV. I have more than enough beauty products. I sorted them into containers so I could see what I have at all times. You have spam in your comments. I reported it, but it's still there.
I try to stay on top of it! Honestly I don't read many of the comments in my older videos to protect my mental health. But whenever I see spam in the new videos I try to delete them. They usually come when the topic of the video is really related to finance.
I plan to do a No-Buy Year for 2025. Retirement is a few years away for my husband and we want to be better prepared when the time comes. We are already a frugal family but plan on really digging in this coming year. It is going to be exciting!
I plan on doing a version of the no buy year because I noticed during a decluttering that I had purchased too much of a class of item (e.g. lip balms), purchased under-utilised items, or purchased items that could be substituted with an item I already own. I am allowing myself tattoos and pre-owned goods this year as a treat - I grew up poor and still want nice things. I would like to implement a cradle to grave clause, something like ‘if I purchase anything, I have to know how I will store it and dispose of it when it is time.’ That might be easy with Apple products because they have a good recycling program. Haha
This is a good idea. I will try to keep this video in my head when I am out and about and stop that great buy of something I don't really need. I can break the year down in quarters and start with the first quarter. What I did this year differently than the past is ask myself...how much use will I get from this purchase? Am I getting a bang for my buck? How often will I really use or wear it? Those questions in my head have prevented me from impulse buying. But I want to do more and spend less. I will take the vacations but cut down on what I spend while on vacation. I stopped buying the souvenirs and tee shirts. I am going back through my closet and drawers and pulling out clothes I haven't worn this year to donate them.
I am planning to do a no buy year and take it month by month. My why: I have an u healthy relationship with money and spending and I want to challenge myself to be more disciplined and no longer be a over consumer!
I did a successful no-buy year a few years ago to help my daughter pay for her wedding. Her dad (my ex) and her in-laws are very wealthy but I wanted to contribute as well. Since then, I am mostly retired as a result of what they call "executive burn-out" and earn very little, but have picked up very bad habits and am spending every penny I earn on wants rather than needs. So I just started another no-buy year this 2025. It can be challenging, as (i) I love buying books and (ii) my best friend is a total shopaholic and drags me into expensive shops every time we meet up for coffee, but I did it once, and can do it again. Good luck to everyone doing any kind of no-buy- I know from experience it can be quite fun and you feel amazing when you've reached your goals!
I plan on doing the 30 day challenge in January. That sounds like a realistic plan for me. I'm doing this because I want to reset my spending habits and get better at managing my money to feel more in control.
You've explained this very well and clearly. I'm going to take on the challenge! I've been budgeting for 3 years now. I plan on doing the challenge for the entire year.
I need a way to draw up a plan to set up for retirement while still earning passive income to meet my day to day need and also get charged lesser taxes even while in a higher tax bracket. i want to invest around $250K savings.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket; instead, diversify into different asset classes to mitigate risk. If you lack extensive knowledge, consult a financial advisor.
Accurate asset allocation is crucial with an Experts guidance. I have 850k in equity, 300K cash earning 5.25 interest, 685k in 401k, 250k cash account, 120k in car assets ( paid off cars) Gold and silver bars. age is 48. My advisor helped me realign my portfolio to my risk tolerance and it boomed overtime.
Melissa Elise Robinson is the licensed advisor I use and im just putting this out here because you asked. You can Just search the name. You’d find necessary details to work with to set up an appointment
Im starting with a no buy month and seeing how it goes for me. I dont wanna set myself up for failure but i definitely want to do the no buy year, or at least low buy.
Im doing a no-buy on books & craft supplies and a low-buy on clothes & frivolous impulse purchases like store bough coffee and random snacks between grochery trips
I’d like to start this for a month at first. That sounds like a good idea. I’ve always managed money fairly well but this past year it’s been a free for all. My goal is to reset my spending habits. Thanks for the tips ❤
I did a low buy year last years where I was allowed to buy from certain categories within a fixed budget (for example books with a monthly budget of 30€). I managed to save 1500€ which doesn't sound much but I'm a student who didn't manage to live within my monthly salary before and made debt. I also payed off my debt which was about 1000€. So in total I saved 2500. Next year I wanna do a no buy year because I want to build an emergency fund. My dog got quite sick a few weeks ago and we had to pay around 500€ for medical costs. I wanna be able to always pay his emergency medical bills without going into debt. This year I wanna unravel why every single inconvenience makes me wanna buy stuff. I wish you all the best and that you may achieve your financial goals!
I plan to do a no/low buy 2025. My goal is a year, but I'm breaking it down per quarter. I need to do a spending reset and want to be more intentional on what I buy/bring into my home. I am pursuing my doctorate and want to be out of as much debt as I can before I have to repay my student loans
I actually already did this in the few years after I got out of law school and had too much debt. If I didn’t, I think I would have been evicted from my apartment and had my phone turned off.
My why is to get used to actually using the stuff I already own. I'm an expert on getting things that I really don't need that just sits there on the shelf or I'm very careful to use my things because I don't want them to get used up, but isn't that the point of stuff? I haven't tossed away or sold a thing for a very long time, the most recent thing I tossed was a pair of jeans that I had for 4 years and wore them a lot until it literally was nothing left. Found myself a new pair of favorite jeans at the flea market for 3 dollars, as new, only had a small hole in the crutch, probable from getting stuck on a barbed wire or similar and that was enough for the old owner to sell it. I sewed it and wear the jeans daily. That is my why, getting used to use the stuff I already have, read the books that I already own, watch the dvd's I already own, learn the board games that I already own, use my hiking equipment that I already own...
Hi -I am planning to do a low- buy year. What do I mean by that ? No clothes, accessories, kitchen appliances, home decor, souvenirs, paper book or magazines, extra make-up or beauty products ( replacements are OK ) I am still going to purchase some tickets to concerts, live performances or cinema, eating out once-twice a month, a weekend trip, a massage all these expenses are allowed . THE GOAL 😉We are saving for a once in a lifetime trip -New Zealand. That is a huge expense taking into consideration that not only staying in this country can cost an arm and a leg for a month but also a return plane ticket from Europe is also pretty expensive.
Why are you doing a No Buy Year??
Hoping to retire this year.
To boost my emergency fund
To clear my debt
I WILL clear out 18000 of debt next year. I bought several items ahead of time to beat tariffs, so we good over here.
Property.
Great idea! I’m going to implement this
Planning is different from executing. Live your life, dear.
This is such a great idea

I'm kinda mad at myself for how much money I wasted in the past buying useless things
So true. And worse is the realization of the wasted money when you give away all the accumulated stuff. Literally thrown away money!
I am where you are. We cannot kick ourselves. We realize and move forward. Now is the best time. Some never self evaluate. At the least, we are.
Don’t beat yourself up. At least you’re doing it now. I always tell myself if I’m doing something now it’s because I wasn’t ready for it then.
Amazing!!! I’m right there with you. In twelve months I want to have my debt paid off and enough money for my first investment/flip property. I plan to make this my lifestyle so I can retire early.
@@ILoveGod1988 I have done way too much of that. No more! Now I'm saving $$ to build my savings account.
Given all the projected tariffs for 2025, buy those things before 1/20/25.

How much did you save?
@therachelexperience_2209 20% of my low income
Wow! Well done! 🎉
Wow! That Sounds great!!! Congratulation! I am an impulse shopper and I also wanna heal. I am doing a no Buy year Next year. I am Tracking my Money and I was shocked how much Money I spend on clothes… 😮

That's incredible, good for you! 🎉
Omg amazing, 52 here and I really want to do this!
This sounds absolutely amazing! I dint even know you, and I'm proud of you!! Congrats!
@@Kelly_Ben What a nice thing to say. Trying that experiment taught me a lot. It did take me a while to break the consumer habit but it was so worth it. Thank you again for the kind comment. Happy holidays!
Inspiration!
I did a no buy for 4 years and my savings/investments sky rocketed. I took a break this year, but I will be going back to it in the new year.
Adding an extra 1k to savings is life changing for many people!
@@sandrabryan9106 wow how did you do it?
I'm including a " get rid of stuff you don't need year" to this no buy year!!! Especially crap I don't need!!!
I did this ! Spent a year decluttering the house. Didn't bring anything into the house (except food and cleaning products) and purged some negativity in my life. Felt great. The key was giving myself a year to declutter . I couldn't buy anything until I'd finished the house.
I am so committed to doing a no buy year. I'm so behind with retirement and savings that it's scaring me. I'll be making my list this weekend!
Good luck!!
Good luck
This is very very smart. I didn’t think of retirement till I was nearly 40 when a manager at work advised me to get my free retirement counseling. Thank god I listened to him.
My husband and I practiced a No Spend in 2020 with a goal of saving $26k for a downpayment for our first home. We had no kids.
At the end of that year, we had 26k 👏🏻👏🏻
Since then we’ve practiced No Spend Months, No Spend Winters, No Spend “10Days” or even No Spend Weekends and have meet more smaller goals. We now have 2 kids and 1 income.
Our next goal is a No Spend from December 21-May 31 👏🏻👏🏻
I think it’s “easier” when basic human needs are still being met. Good homemade food, free activities and simple desires help too. This lifestyle feels normal
It sounds lovely too
Start now, no reason to wait till January 😊
Exactly!
I started 10 days ago...same
Or January
This approach is for people that are bad with money. 😂 Successful people have a stable budget they follow every month.
@@EarthsGeomancer and...your point?
I am planning a 'no buy year in 2025'. My why is healing from being an impulsive spender and to better use what I have. I will spent time thinking about the rules for this. Thank you for putting this out there.
Same
I love the idea of a no-buy year and mainly making the lists, not so much for saving money, but to be kinder to the planet , not so much junk, rubbish, waste and pollution !!!
I am planing to do my no buy year for a whole year. I just purchased my first home and I want to rebuild my financial cushion. Thanks for this video.
Pathetic way to live but you do you .
I'm doing a No Buy 2025. I spent a lot in 2024. I buried my youngest child and it has crushed me. I will try to create a new normal in 2025 bc I died with her in 2024.
I'm so sorry for your loss😢❤
I’m so sorry. Blessings to you.
❤
1 way to get ahead is live below your means😉 so a no buy it is!
There's something exhilarating and empowering about your videos. I feel understood and motivated to take matters into my own hands!
Awesome!! I try to format them in an easy to digest way!
Try it one month at a time.
Same in Ohio. When inflation went crazy by the end of 2021 we only buy essentials and on a strict budget and plan.
@@jacqueslee2592 Hi! I looked into Mint and where I live, the cell service isn’t the best. At some point, I may look into seeing if they have expanded their cell towers to give my area more coverage. Thanks for suggesting Mint.
@@GenXamerica yes, I totally feel that. I’ve become a pro at budgeting, lol..
@@GenXamerica
Do not buy from corporate America this 2024 and 2025. Do not buy Chinese products.
A year feels like a long time so I am going to take it one month at a time
Good idea at first. You can tweak your model as you move along.
Cynthia, I started in January this year with a goal of ZAR 300 per month. It is now December and I am not only up to date but I want to add an extra R400 to the R3600 to bring it up to a nice round R4000. I am SO proud of myself!
😎
Wise comment, one day at a time sweet Jesus
Austin- this is an EXCELLENT video. Congratulations on hitting this one right out of the park.
Thanks! How to videos are my favorite to make. Next week's is another how to! It's New Year time!
I have to do this. My husband died last year and I need to get my finances in order now. I'm terrified as my income (Social Security) is greatly reduced. But my home is paid for, so that's a blessing.
God bless you! You can do it!
I like the "setting ground rules" part as that helps with focus. I'm doing a No Buy Year because I had to spend my emergency fund this year and I need to build that back up in 2025. Thanks for the video, El Agustin!
Thanks for watching, Josephine!
I am doing a no buy month this month (Dec) to prepare for a no buy year in 2025. I am doing this to practice simplicity and gratitude.
this is the first no buy video I’ve watched but I’ve seen these pop up in my algorithm!
12 months. To remind me I have what I need.
I think I'll start with a no-spend month. I did it last year and was surprised how automatic it was for me to browse Amazon in search of stuff to buy.
Excellent idea! I'll actually do this!
We want to increase Serotnonin. google it. It brings joy. Dopamine gives pleasure---big problem
Right on!
I had a pretty good year not spending on unnecessary things, but hopefully next year I’m better. It’s just those Dollar Tree stores get me!!!
We are doing a 14 month no spend year! We are about to have baby #8 and are saving for a down payment for a bigger house! ❤
This is something within my reach and I will try my best to have a no buy year in 2025! Thank you, as always, Agustin 😊
I will start doing it for 30 days only first because I am not good at following strict rules
I have stage lV cancer and sometimes I need to treat myself in order to get going 😁
Happy holidays to all!

Learn to differentiate between WANTS AND NEEDS!!!!
Most people can't...
Challenge accepted!!
Greetings from germany. Loving your videos. Always a great inspiration.
Planning January-April 2025; have tracked pre-no buy and started with low buy. I like that this video put the 'what to buy' list 1st. That planning is what I needed. Thanks!
5:17 love this and analogy to traffic lights. Good for visual people
I did a no buy year in 2022, it was so empowering to take charge of my spending. I will be doing a no buy year in 2025. I want to increase my Emergency fund and save for a vacation.
Awesome!!
Same here! 💯👍
Love this channel!! I retired so I need to start on some "no-buy" years.
Great idea if you need to pay down debt or build up your savings!
I completed a no spend year in 2019 and started my second no spend year 6 weeks ago.
Nice!
I have had mint mobile for just over a year now ( they send you an anniversary card!!) and I LOVE it!!!
Into a 18 months no buy challenge, already 4 months. Habits are changing a lot and motivated !!! It is a life changing for the best. Thanks for your inspiration !
Thanks for watching, Matt!
Fronting up for a second no buy in 2025. ‘24 went to my emergency fund…this year will be for a an overseas trip … can’t wait..…✈️
Thanks Austin I'm going to do it!❤
Right on!
I have enough books & painting projects for a whole year this is why I don’t need to spend on these in 2025
Great content all the time...
Thanks!
I had a good chuckle when you said don’t be one of those people who watches no buy videos and does another.. I am like crap that’s me 😂
lol, it's ok. Don't be too hard on yourself!
I want to do this forever! Love from South Africa🇿🇦
Haha
i only discovered this channel early this year and saved lots of money and i dont even know how it happened.
Thanks for watching!
Big whoop! Love it! 😁
Buy your shoes on the boxing day sales .
I got mine on Black Friday…👌🏽

I looked up her name online and found her page. I emailed and made an appointment to talk with her. Thanks
Im starting with a no buy month and seeing how it goes for me. I dont wanna set myself up for failure but i definitely want to do the no buy year, or at least low buy.
I already buy very little, but sometimes I splurge.
Great Video ! I already committed to a No-buy January. Baby steps for me... If successful, I will try a longer period. Thanks for the Great tips !!
I did it for a year . Only bought non perishables. Food, self care, cleaning products. Thats it
I did a low buy year last years where I was allowed to buy from certain categories within a fixed budget (for example books with a monthly budget of 30€).
A novel idea for me! Im going to be realistic and maybe do a 90 day challenge first. Tjanks for putting this out there!
I plan to do a no/low buy 2025. My goal is a year, but I'm breaking it down per quarter. I need to do a spending reset and want to be more intentional on what I buy/bring into my home. I am pursuing my doctorate and want to be out of as much debt as I can before I have to repay my student loans
exceptional content. i like the allocation "of 1 of these per ___". keep up the great videos! 🙋🏾♀🙋🏾♀
Great advice. Keep up the good work.
