- YanksAtShea brings you an exciting bottom of the sixth inning at Shea Stadium on Saturday August 24, 1974 when the Yankees go ahead of the California Angels during an muggy afternoon game. What makes it more exciting is the sheer terror Phil Rizzuto expresses during his excellent call of the game when six separate bolts of late August lightning bounce around Shea. Phil was a much better play-by-play announcer than he’s given credit for (at least before the truly silly “wasn’t watching” post-1985 era on WPIX with Bill White). Phil was much better in his radio days on the Yankees network. And the Yanks held on to win this game while Rizzuto headed out of Shea and fast.
