- The CI Mid is the result of an egg-inspired collaborative project I did with Channel Islands Surfboards. This video footage was captured early last summer (’19) during two consecutive days of riding the No. 5 prototype (shaped by Mike Andrews) had shaped along the way to making what we now call the CI Mid.
I really liked how zippy and squirty this proto was, but you can see little subtle moments in the softer stuff where the tail rocker felt a hair too low during cutbacks. This is nerd level stuff, I’m guessing most people wouldn’t notice what I was feeling, but still, we were trying to make something as good as possible so I brought it back to the bay, we measured all aspects of it and decided to add a hair more tail rocker-as well as tweak on the concave and vee just a tiny bit. It’s crazy what the slightest of adjustments can do, and the final result as you’ve heard me carry on about is pretty damn amazing. This particular board also ended up under the feet of Cliff Kapono @cliffkapono, Blake Howard at CI and then Sage Erickson @sageerickson, and thanks to its sturdy glass job is still being enjoyed by friends that pass through town.
Prototype No.5 is 6’10” x 20 7/8” x 2 5/8”. Two plus one. 6.5” center with 4” sides. I'm 6’1, 190 lbs. Since the development I find myself riding the 7'0" in stock dims more than the 6'10.

Bought the 6'8" a week ago and had 2 test runs here in Oceanside. The board rode great even in the waist high corners on offer.

my opinion : you are the surf..you are always in rhythm with the wave..I got so much respect for all surfers, but I think every surfer (the youngest for sure) should have a look on you surfing, just to keep it real..your lines are always super aesthetic and functional.. "simple stuff" it doesn't mean easy, but means control and knowledge about waves and surfboard !! I would like to have a better english to explain my point of view and maybe have a nice conversation with you (I know I want too much) ! BIG UP AND BIG COMPLIMENTI..here in Italy life and waves still in lockdown, but we still skate in between police control.. :-)

Hey Devon been a fan for years, sick style & flow always. Dude I’ve been wanting to know the DIMS on your mid that you ride in this video and others I’ve seen. I have a similar board 7 ft and love it. However been wanting another mid with a little more performance and undecided on the length. Would appreciate a little feedback if you could thanks bud...
