CI Log - First Wave on new 9'8" - Devon Howard
This is a 9'8 CI Log I had Wayne trick out just a tad for bigger waves, max wave size at a few feet overhead. Thinned out rails and some other secret little tweaks, but 90% the same exact everything as the CI LOG that's available in shops... Obviously, in this single ride, the wave is not big... but it was my very first wave on this brand new board. Got a few more rides that day then switched back to the my standard CI Log (the clear one). Loved the vibe of this blue board and have had a chance to get it in well overhead Hawaiian surf and loved it. Look forward to sharing more on this board soon. Shot by Mini Blanchard.

CI LOG - R&D Session '23 - Devon Howard

Been working on a better, more balanced traditional single-fin longboard aka "log" over the past few years with close friend Wayne Rich. The CI Log will be available soon. In this session from a few weeks ago, we were fine-tuning some of the final design details, including the custom single-fin we made for it. Standby for more info shortly. This was filmed by Mini Blanchard.

This video showcases an exciting new twin fin egg (midlength) design I worked on with Channel Islands Surfboards. It features Mikey February, Cliff Kapono and your truly demonstrating the spicy riding capabilities of the CI Mid Twin. Our original CI Mid debuted with the ever reliable 2-plus-1 fin set-up (big center fin, small sidebites). While it can also be enjoyed as a single-fin, the side-fi...

Tri Plane Hull Single by CI Surfboards (Team Edit)

Watch some of my friends enjoy the glide of the new Tri Plane Hull Single I worked on with the great team at Channel Islands Surfboards. This fun, user-friendly midlength incorporates a fresh take on a Al Merrick’s Tri Plane Hull bottom design he refined and built during the ’70s and ’80s-a Greenough inspired planning hull that generates tremendous “lift” for added speed and ease of control. Assorted Rides - Devon Howard

This is a little project my friend Drew Miller made. It's comprised from a few sessions... A combo of the stuff I like to ride at some of my favorite breaks. After a few decades of goofing off in the surf, I’ve whittled down what I ride most into two distinct camps-both of which are an obvious extension of the waves, culture and characters where I’ve lived all these years. For the cruisey, unde...
Devon Howard - riding a CI Mid Prototype

This was one of many boards we worked on as we fine tuned the CI Mid design. It took well over a year of working on this model until we felt it was where we wanted it. After this session it was looking like we were really close!. What a great feeling to wind up on a long railed board like this and let it fly down the line. There were only a few more very minor changes, probably no one would not...

Mikey February grooving' along in his home country of South Africa, riding a stock sized CI Mid, with a 2 1 fin CI Mid fin set of 6.5" center and 4" sides... First few rides here are on a custom Channel Islands Trip plane hull 7’1” concept design with single fin. Looking through CI's old board collection in the rafters, we spotted an early ’70s Al Merrick single-fin that was rather MP-esque in its outline. We replicated the curves but added some of CI’s secret sauce in the back end of the template and rail. Also, instead of running the expected ligh...

From a recent quick trip to Hawaii. Surf was funky but warm, and fun of course. Boards are comprised of two custom prototypes by Channel Islands Surfboards. 6'11 Twin with AMK keel fins and a 7'1 single with a tri plane hull bottom and a custom fin template. These style boards like longer, cleaner running walls but thought to share how they go in bumpy wonky conditions. Not the greatest waves o...

All the surfers in this video show style and relaxation while surfing. I think surfing today for the most part has become ugly to watch......no flow.....no co-existing with the natural beauty of the waves. I think more attention should be given to the true 'soul surfers' who still find their peace of mind through the waves. I'm 70 years old and unfortunately can no longer physically withstand the rigors. Been surfing since I was 8 and even gave manufacturing a try (thanking the bastardos at the EPA). Peace to all and keep scratching for the cleanup set.

it's a Midlength design that gets more lift so it really stands out in small gutless waves (Sits on top of water, gets up to speed fast and doesn't need much power in the waves to get going). I like in knee to shoulder high ideally. Above that I like the Mid. Hope that helps.

@@devonhoward6633 i don't understand. I find mine (Ci tri plane hull) to be somewhat of a bad paddler, it kinda bogs specially if its windy and bumpy (almost epoxy-ish even though its pu) and it paddle noticeably worse than a machado SnB despite actually packing more volume. And i find it needs way more push... Its like the water goes through the bottom and you get 0 lift if the wave is kind of gutless. I also found once you're up, surprisingly the bog go completely away, it has a lot of glide and stability. Also, paradoxically, its a lot more capable in more powerful surf than most midlength i tried (including SnB), with great manoeuverability and is very comfortable riding a little bit bigger and powerful waves than you would on such a big board.... like bad on small gutless surf, where i keep seeing waves pass through me and missing that i would have 100% caught with most of my other boards of same size (like SnB), and much better on slightly bigger more powerful surf, to the point its probably one of my best "good" wave midlength (which is not at all why i bought it)... Is my board a fake ? lmao
