    try testing the tulsa 3/8ths security chain with 1 of your bolt cutters. a buddy of mine and me both tried cuttin 1... we had a pittsburgh bolt cutter. we put a 2 ft cheaters pipe on the end... i pushed down on the middle and he jumped up and down on the back. we got maybe a millimeter- or perhaps closer to a 1/2 millimeter and that was all we could get and that was using a 36 inch bolt cutter. we bent the handles. i would love to see if a pair of 42 inch cutters would do

      I've got a 3/8'' Tulsa ready to ship. Matt who answers e-mails for them told me Tulsa is the same as Security Maxx and they're both made by Laclede only they're through hardened, most of Laclede's security chains are case hardened.

      Bullshit. Thieves care about quick not quiet. Which is why the mechanical bolt cutter is the weapon of choice, since when it works it just takes seconds.
      Angle grinder also takes just tops 30 seconds, maybe a minute for the thick chain or standard high quality ulock and even in a busy area people won't have time to react or won't care. Probably not even the owner in the house next to the bike would have the time. And cops are, best case, 15 minutes away, if anyone bothers to call. Even armored u-lock that eats grinder disks cannot withstand 20 minutes of grinder attack, but it taking this long might deter a thief, and the thief might not have a second grinder disk.
      If you have a plenty of time and want a quiet physical attack, you just use a carbide saw. Sawing through the chain as shown would take, maybe 10 minutes. (The armored ulock also defeats the saw by blunting it to worthless.)
      If thieves cared even more about quiet, they'd pick the locks. For many a lock it takes just a minute or two to pick, except the higher security ones might defeat your typical thief skill level and tools.

      Tell that to the thieves in London going around with battery powered angle grinders.
      That's why Hiplok & Litelok brought out their angle grinder resistant u-locks.

      It can be cut with Irwin Record 42" bolt cutters. Any chain under 16mm can be cut, if you can't you are not big or strong enough. People claiming a 10mm Pewag security chain is not cut with bolt cutters are liars. Many american sellers lie about how good it is. I am a chain tester, I have my limits as I am not that big, but it is not that hard if you try with the right bolt cutter.

    A cheap carbide rod saw can defeat that chain I'd say in under 5 minutes.
    I had to remove a tank of a lock, some beastly medeco with a 7/16 alloy shackle. 36" HK Porters barely touched it, but the trusty carbide rod saw defeated it fairly easily.

      Nope; not with a Peweg 3/8 or 1/2 chain. Will take much, much longer. Especially if the chain isn't held in a vice.

    • @AstralS7orm
      @AstralS7orm Год назад

      @@wilburpost7977 Will take about 2 minutes if you can get the chain lodged e.g. onto concrete by say stepping on it, or if it's taut. Which is why overly long chains and taut chains are easier to deal with. It is indeed slightly stronger than a typical unarmored ulock. Not enough to matter, though.
      You of course need a sufficiently solid padlock or that instead becomes the place to cut or break.
      The thick big links are often sufficiently stable by friction to not even need any holding.
