Wow, this is unbelievable. You've done an amazing job. I built your fireplace and now I'm wanting to do the pizza over. Your fireplace by the way is fantastic!

The work you are doing here is amazing and detail is off the charts. Giving us all the confidence to do this on our own within a reasonable budget! Thanks for sharing this process with those of us that prefer to DIY our projects!

Hey, I'm getting ready to use a small stamp to make my build look like stacked stone. I followed your last fireplace plan and I'm going to use the 80 alcohol and 20 castor oil. Does your Keebler texturing use the same 3 parts play sand to 1 part Portland? Your plans are epic BTW and I'm really loving my new fireplace.

      Hey John.
You can still used the same mix ratio. On the keebler tree, to save time, i used pro finish cement type S. Its already mixed to those ratios and honestly i think it saved me money in time. I plan to use that same cement in my next few projects. Its a smooth mix and is more enjoyable to carve.
I didnt use any release agent on the keebler tree since i just hand carved all of it. I probably wont use the stamps anymore since ive experimented with different ways of making texture... crumble up newspaper does a good texture, crumpled up plastic bag, stamping with brushes...etc.
Of course all cement art is trial and error but i found these methods work the best.
But give the pro finish cement type S a try. Not expensive at all. I get it at lowes. Hope this helps.

One more tip.... i found that making about a baseball size amount in your hand and lightly tossing it on the fireplace is easier than trialing it on. And you can get it on thicker for a deeper carve. And much faster. Plus it seems to stick better that way as opposed to trying to trial it on thick

@@JohnSmith-qd1qm i have a few projects coming up at my cabin that will show you some cool ways of getting different looks with cement. I just poured a patio in front of the fireplace and carved it to look like stone. Im also gonna enclose one of my porches and then show how to build columns and make it look like stacked river rock. Along with how to make cement look like wood planks.
