Uncle Daves Frontier
Добавлен 14 мар 2013
Welcome to my channel. I embrace the off grid life. I will also be building a log cabin from trees from my property along with a 2 story bathhouse with a rock waterfall bathtub. Other builds will include a hobbit house, sky bridge, root cellar and huge outdoor kitchen. I will also be doing lots of cement art. Please subscribe and come along.

This patio costs 109 dollars for all material. With carving cement, you can make it look like anything from slate, stone, or river rock without the expense of buying stone.

You should test for thermo-siphoning. Have a roof vent pull air out instead forcing air through the ground .
AC Infinity fans are the best out there and they even make smart versions of their fans so you can control them from anywhere
1. Longer pipe for better effectiveness, not larger pipe. 2. You are 1000% going to get mold, as you are moving warm air to a cool space. 3. You have like 12 feet of exposed black pipe outside above ground which is definitely countering some of the cooling effect of the ground. They definitely need to be insulated above ground.
Pipe above ground has been covered. I run a dehumidifier in my cabin. No mold issues.
Wait but what if it's not fire brick??
Concrete only has a chance of cracking if you build a fire on WET concrete. I've used these for years. No issues.
How many did you use?
@scottblake89 I have a how too video with all the material
Paint the pipes white, so not to absorb the heat when the sun hits it.
Pipes are covered now.
i've looked several times....what size angle iron did you use?
1 1/4 or 1 1/2 angle iron will work. Lowes and home depot sell em in 4ft sticks
Plastic is a poor conductor of heat. Add more loops for better cooling. Perhaps a bit deeper too.
do you know the temp. of the air coming in from the pipe ?
Bout 58 in my area
Smaller diameter pipe would cool faster. Multiple 4" with a manifold coming in and going out
This would be a really good idea if you like poly line because you can join it together without and make any seams really strong
it's 98 degrees outside and here in the cabin it's 94 degrees lol.... why didn't you tell us what the cabin temp was after having it run for a while???
There's a follow up video
niiiiice
So beautiful, I think you are the first american builder I've seen that is so proficient you are in the realm of artistry.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the compliment.
For a white man embracing Mexican culture I gotta give you props for the southern ingenuity this is awesome 👍🏽 anything to get them tasty Al pastor tacos
i would have used a liquid heat exchanger instead of open ducting underground.
I'm no engineer, but based on some of the other videos and information I've seen and read, the "mildew" concern may have been misconveyed. If your pipe system is continuous, the warm air entering will create condensation when it meets the cooler pipe surface which eventually could produce standing water in the pipes. To combat this possibility, your pipes should have at least a 1% grade to a sump well with a pump.
Thank you so much for your knowledge
If I plan to plaster the outside with cement can I use regular cinder block instead of a bunch of these smaller blocks you used? I think you mentioned you chose these for looks, but if I use mostly cinder blocks would that compromise the strength integrity?
You can use regular cinder blocks. But I wouldn't leave em hollow. I'd fill them with cement
This is a bad due!!! Answered questions during build, true philanthropy!!
🎉Awesome video brotha!!
How long are the 2 pieces of angle iron? Thanks!
You can get 4ft pieces at lowes or home depot
Thank you Uncle Dave! SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for the sub!
If I try this, I'll use the thinnest-walled pipe possible and take air from ceiling level and bring it back in at floor level so probably under my computer desk.
Did you line the inside with anything or the cap blocks are good and won’t crack?
Nothing lined. As long as you never build a fire on wet concrete or stones, your fine.
Awesome!
Won’t this crumble after a few freeze thaw cycles?
Not at all. Been using this for years. Just never build a fire on wet concrete
I am anxious to see the hobbit house!
It's gonna be huge. Gonna do it in phases. But fully livable.
This is so kool 👍👍👍
Thank you
No issues with pavers cracking under heat ?
None. Like any concrete, don't build a fire when it's wet
Won’t those expand from steam and explode
They could Crack if you build a fire when there wet. Haven't had one Crack yet after years of use
This is so brilliant, but can you please say the brand name of the pavers? I can't find anything like them. Thank you!
There just 16x8x4 concrete blocks from lowes or home depot
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 You're so kind to reply! There is definitely nothing like these pavers available where I live. The closest is a cinder block in that size. I have also found a paver that is even rated as fireproof, but it is only six inches wide. Do you think either of those would work? Thanks again.
@gospelday1038 I'd try to find the bigger blocks. Most hardware stores will order them if there not available in store.
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 Thanks again. I'll keep looking. 😎🔥
This is an amazing video! Where did you get the iron rust metal poles on the outside of the fireplace for aesthetics?❤
I had a blacksmith make the h bar for the front of the fireplace. For hanging pots.
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 that is so cool! I picked up my materials today and will work on it this week. Thank you for making it look easy!
@user-wd1ov8jp4l very welcome and hope it turns out nice.
Is the bottom opening area for storage?
It's gonna be to store kindling. I hope to get back up there soon to finish it. Too much rain this year
apakah itu tidak terlalu dekat? mungkin dibuat berseberangan akan lebih efektif. hanya pendapat. great video
Thank you! I love it and your simple design that anyone can do. I needed this visual lesson.
Thank you very much
These cinder blocks ever bust from heat?
Not at all. I have a video on the full build. Been using it for a long time now. Just never build a fire on wet bricks
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 Ok thanks. I'll check that video out.
Just stick that slice right into my mouth Uncle Dave.
Thank you for sharing. I look for this kind of methods. I will try
I would love to know how this is working for you now. I'm seriously considering this for an, at least partial, off grid place in northeast Texas.
Still going good. I'd do a 8 or 10 inch pipe if I had to do it again. I have another build I'm going to start this summer and I'll use this same design but use a bigger pipe. Been too much rain this year so I'm still waiting on some areas to dry out
@uncledavesfrontier6846 yes we are swimming in it here. Have you considered a solar chimney to help with the exhaust?
Really nice idea and budget friendly to compare to mortar and stone
@uncledavesfrontier6846 This system is great. I would be mostly concerned with tree roots given how wooded the area seems to be.
No trees close to where I buried it
doesn't smoke comes back ? inside beggining of chimney it's not smooth as i saw in another videos... can i build like this and smoke will go top of chimney?
If your chimney is tall enough you have no worries
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 i think to build fireplace totally 2.3m heigh. 0.6m bottom stand, fireplace area 0.6m and chimney to be 1.1m, can you suggest like this?
@beqatavadze6032 top of my chimney is about 8ft tall
@@uncledavesfrontier6846 8 feet is 2.4m. In your video it seems not so long 😢
That's real nice, and it's easy!
this is exactly what i needed. i wanted to see one built for cheap and fast.
I have another video where I take it apart and show how to stack it
Yummy!!!
This is great,,,,,,,i was skeptical about blocks cracking,,,,,,,but its been a year of burning and NOT a block cracked.....thanks
I appreciate it
I think this is so neat! Good job!
Hi, this looks amazing. Could you please advise on the shape of chimney? Is it necessary to have this shape with bricks coming in like a cone shape? Would it be problematic to build a straight tall block?
You can build a straight chimney. Keep in mind, if your chimney hole is large, it's probably gonna draft wrong. Could get lots of smoke blowing back down.
Been needing some guidance on this.....this video clears all of that up!! THANK YOU!!
Dadgummet Dave!! Already building the fireplace and now my wife wants one of these too!!
Be glad when all this rain will quit so I can finish it. It's either raining or too cold to do cement work.
