- Recorded from our National Camera Day virtual event, Canon Explorer of Light Atiba Jefferson will explain how he got his start in skateboarding photography, which led him into the art of freezing skateboarding action with flash. He will also go out on a skate session with a professional and show you tricks such as mixing available light with flash, how important flash duration is and high-speed sync.

"A skater will see a picture, and know if the skater made it or not. True skater knows when they see a skate photo that the skater landed and rode away, and that's the essence of skate photography.
the code is you don't really run a photo unless the skater made it, and that's a cool thing that I think, about skating is that there's this honor to it, and the honor is for you to actually make that trick"
that's the most insightful quote into Skate photography I've ever heard. I have better understanding for skaters and their deep knowledge of what goes into a trick. well said Atiba 👏
The one and only, Atiba Jefferson. One of my favorite skateboarding photographers. Hands down!
This is exactly what I needed. Ive grown up looking at atibas photos for the last 20 years and now ive come to a point in life where photography has made its home in my heart. Skateboarding has been my mainl love since day 1 but with a bum knee now, and the gift of a camera from my aunt 3 years ago..i realized this was what i was meant to do. to capture and document the one thing i truly love. I just switched over from canon to fuji (keep your hate i like what i like) and just bought my first godox speed lite so im VERY new to flash photography and needed all the tips I could get. From the bottom of my heart, from a skateboarder and photographer...thank you for this
Thanks so much for explaining how you use flashes for skate photography so clearly and brilliantly. I really love and appreciate it.

This is great Atiba, lots of knowledge
1h listening photo-tricks by Atiba Jefferson it’s just mind blowing!!
🤤🤤🤤🤤
Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏻🤙🏻
Really great video!!! 10/10
Awesome flash!
thanks attic! always been helping me out, you responded to me back in 2004 to go with that canon 15mm had 3 a2 and a ae2 with the canon 15mm and a 24-70, moved up now got a 90d and r5c any help g would be great!
Great shots! Thank-you for the excellent teaching!
Amazing, would love to see you do a nine club episode 🙏
Very insightful...thank you very much. Please do more of these with possibly different sports. Show-off the multiple exposures FPS the R5 can do and the fact that the EL-1 can keep up.
do you ever use filters >?
its insane how he literally goes about his settings and shooting the way i do.
did they shoot this video with canon products?
Great stuff... but who has four EL-1's? With the trigger and stands he's prolly rock'n $5K worth of lights.
I thought my shooting with two XPLOR600's was overkill haha!
4 el-1 running at about a grand each. That’s 4 grand on flimsy tripod. Wow and I thought I took risk.
100%
I thought it's more funny that Canon sponsored this and he's shooting with 4 of them velcro'd and tape all over the flashes...It shows what skate photography really is...super ghetto rigs but I'm surprised they weren't upset their gear wasn't displayed as perfect like 99% of these sponsored product shoots haha
4 flashes? He could also use 1 godox ad200 for way cheaper...
I was litterally laughing my guts out when I checked the price of those canon lights. Praise be my AD200pro's. 😊
chicken bone, nowison!
