At all, as it's Socket F(LGA1207) mobo, it can use 6 core Socket F Opterons too, Like Opteron 2439(or EE series). It can use Opterons in 2-4(2Mb L3)-4(6Mb L3)-6 core variants.
I'd love to watch a comparison between this Quad FX platform and the first generation Phenom, especially the best one, the Phenom 64 X4 9950 BE. It has lower clock (2.6GHz, if my memory isn't failing), but is a bit more modern and is a single chip. I think it'd be interesting to see. If you can compare with the Phenom II X4 and the Athlon II X4 as well it'd be even more interesting.

I dont know if you know, but old cpus perform better with radeon. The Nvidia driver have a big overhead that new cpus dont feel, but old one does.

The second revision of this board can use the 6 core chips - this board would require the BIOS chip from that board to run those chips
