While these saxophone improvs display the rhythmic deadends of the standard 8th-note language of jazz (especially at this tempo) with a certain sameness to the solos, I found Mr. Markimovich and, in particular, Mr. Kohler using those 8th notes for their own expressive ends and not being used by them. I really heard their thoughts and not just their fingers running up and down the horn. Mr. Kohler has some heavy historic baggage to deal with by playing "Impressions" on the tenor saxophone and I think he did an excellent job from beginning to end -- exciting and melodically complex with enough alternate melodies in relief of the 8th-note speed runs. Splendid job by all on this classic tune. Best of luck to you!
