    They’re talking about skylar’s pace of play. This is a snail’s pace from when he was a kid. I remember playing him when he was 12-13 years old. The kid just flew around the table. Barely taking time to chalk his cue. We knew he was gonna be a good player, but no one knew just how good. He’s gifted.

  • @observer991

    Gorst is not only a phenomenal player; whether he wins or loses, he is as much a gentleman as any player I have ever witnessed. Skylar played great those last seven racks, but he got several rolls that kept Gorst from being able to do anything. Gorst knew that he was the victim of Skylar's great playing and extremely fortunate rolls, but Gorst also knew that he has been on the other side of that many times in tournaments.
    That is the nature of pool, though...when you have two players of similar ability, luck is a huge factor in who wins. The sooner a competitor in pool accepts that at any time, the rolls can't go against them, indeed with great prejudice, the sooner that player can learn to be at peace with the game, other players, and themself. That peace of mind will help them elevate their game mentally to a higher level.
    The biggest difference between good players and great players is not their physical talent or how well they can move the ball around the table. It is their ability to manage their emotions when they experience great fortune or defeat and maintain enough composure to extract all the information available when everything seems to be working against them.
    Pool rooms are full of players who can pocket well and move the rock around the table with tremendous control. There is only a small percentage of those players who know how to discipline their minds to reach the potential they have physically. The amount of frustration one has playing pool is directly proportional to the gap between their physical talent and the level of their mental discipline.
    It is those players who will continually make excuses for their inconsistent play. When they make those excuses, they insulate themselves from the valuable information available to them in their mistakes...and victories. It comes down to this life principle, those who blame their defeats on their victimhood will miss 90+% of the lessons available to them...while calling others lucky!
    It is the great players who remember when they were in a similar frame of mind, yet finally understood these epiphanies, that look at those players and think to themselves, I wonder if they'll ever get it or if they'll just continue in their victimhood and remain way under their potential for the rest of their lives.
    By the way, Skylar has an excellent attitude and understands much of what this post was about...even at his young age.

    Hello everyone,
    Does anyone know what the "check side" means which Alex Lely says from time to time? I think he uses it for inside english when pocketing a ball but I wonder where the term originates.

    • @badastronaut5992
      @badastronaut5992 2 года назад +1

      "Check side" means the cue ball slows down off the rail because the english is reverse (as opposed to "running" english). You can have running inside and check outside, so "check" and "inside" aren't always synonymous, but they usually are, and they were in the case you're referring to.

    Man, these two were playing some first class strategy throughout, fun to watch the extended safety work. The puzzle solution parts are always the best for me. Next are some of the insane shots players at this level produce, which was the lesser aspect this match, MHO.
    Honestly I get kind of tired of rotation, until the match is more like this one, or when it's a long spread and the player down makes a big run to tie, exceed, or at least come close to the higher score, especially when they're far enough away from the hill to make it interesting, or vying for hill hill.
    Some excellent matches in this tourney. Interesting, the level of intense concentration going on in this tournament. These guys and gals are seriously serious here. Kind of the opposite of Mosconi, where they are still concentrating, but the crowds tend to be a little out of control, and the atmosphere can get a bit silly, and at times, irritating, like intentionally yelping or whatever when players are down on the shot.
    They were really getting nice consistent break spreads here as well. If only I could break like that, and safety, and shoot, and pattern ... :-/

      It's not because of the Russia vs Ukraine! Russia's flag and anthem are already banned from major events such as the Olympics, Paraolympics and any World Championship organised by a World Anti-Doping Code signatory as part of sanctions imposed over the cover-up of a state-sponsored doping programe! For that Russia received a two-year ban from WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) in 2019. Those athletes are competing under the name of the “Russian Olympic Committee,” or ROC! When an ROC athlete wins a gold medal, the Russian anthem will not be played.
      Edit: Of course, because of the recent war now, any Russian/Belarusian player is automatically banned from any World/European Championship.
