I think if it's break from the box, even with template, then the 3 point rule shouldn't be applied, but the break speed can be at the refs discretion to prevent soft breaking. However, it's it's break from anywhere, then 3 the point rule is fine. Breaking from the box requires a cut break, and with a slightly over cut on the one, the balls fonts spread as well

I completely disagree the one ball is an easy pocket once you figure out the table and these guys are so good that they can make it to easy they are already shooting 95+ %.
You learn more by watching other players than by playing. The only practice you can really do is making the balls. But everything else is all mind games. Creativity will always overcome the book answers. Learning how speed affects the movement of the cue ball is very important, way more important than how it affects the object ball. I had a pocket ball with the 8-ball sitting about 2 feet under it. We have timeouts in our league so I asked my captain what he wanted me to do. And he said top right so it would set up for a long shot but easily makable 8. I said okay. I put low left and ripped it, and it settled just below the 8 for the easiest shot ever. And he asked how i did that. And i told him physics. If you hit full enough on the object ball most of the momentum gets taken away from the cue ball. Then when it contacts the rail it will do what's it's supposed to if the speed is appropriate. Would i ever do that shot again, probably not, but it was a badass shot. I figured worst case scenario with the speed i hit, it would end up going three rail with an easy shot, but instead went 1 rail right behind the 8.
It hit the point, because it wasn't on the rail. He hit it with a slight cut which drove the 4 to the point. Happens quite often on that type of shot. It's one reason why i hate going across the table for rail shots, and always try to set up for the shot that doesn't require that. It's one of my many weaknesses.
O.K. Guess I'm missing something in pool. Both of these guys rack with the 9 ball on the spot.. I've always racked with the 1 ball on the spot.. What has changed ??
Yep the rules have changed over the years. Breaking from the box. So many balls past the headstring. THE PLAYERS VOTED for this. They get sick of the same patterns and the breaker dominating. They voted for this to make it more random.
If the nine goes on the break, but nothing else goes in and nothing crosses the headstring, is it a non-compliant break? Also, this is insanely great quality of play when a guy shoots a .912 and loses!
I just finished watching parts of the epic race to 120 9-Ball challenge between Strickland and Reyes which makes races to even 13 seem just a little short.
Love the video, and the commentary is great, Mark and JJ are both very good at what they do. The only thing I wish they would do is talk about what cue each player is using to break with and play with, the brand, weight, cue tip, etc. SVB seems to be playing with different cues now, and the guys on the mic never say what he is using. I would like to know what cue they both play with.
They are both sponsored by cuetec. Shane plays with the white svb Dakota edition with a 5/6 inch extension full time. I believe gorst uses the ghost edition.
As long as the player is "addressing" the cue ball, it is not a foul when the timer goes to 00. If the player gets off the shot or starts looking around, then it's a foul.
Someone explain to me why Fedor couldn't push? In the 3 point break rule it says if the table is passed to the breaker, he can play a push. If the incoming player accepts the table, the incoming player cannot play a push. Do i have it twisted or am i reading it wrong?
Can anyone tell me why they are racking the balls the way that they are - with the 9ball on the dot? I thought it was the 1 on the dot, in line with the second diamonds from the bottom. I've noticed this in several other videos as well.
There is 2 (options) on racking in 9 ball (only). 1 ball on footstring or 9 ball on footstring. It's however the game is setup. The 9 ball on the footstring closes the box for the 1 ball in the side pockets or... Any ball on the 2 corner pockets on the footsring side. Hope this helps
During college, especially in my group of peers, Winning was second to cool. Cool was thunderous breaks, massive English on the ball, never playing a Safety, have to bank the 8 (in 8-ball). and I would much rather play well and lose than play poorly and win. I wanted good contests. Among friends, if we reached the 8-ball and the opponent was way behind, we would suddenly declare that the 8-ball (for this game) must be banked, caromed, kicked or jumped to give him/her the chance to catch up. We always considered the rule that you prefer, but too often, we see a player rushing to a shot and shooting it when not ready. No player has taken advantage of staying down on the shot too long, so since it wasn't abused, we let the player relax and execute the shot with his maximum skill. BTW, you're not alone. 🙂

I looked at Josh and he said real quickly oh yeah she can push out. You would think professional players would know the rules more than a working man, but I didn’t contest it because I didn’t want to go all the way downstairs to tournament desk. Needless to say I have no respect for either of them. Ended up losing 9-6, not to say I would have won but I could have made it closer at least.
It's a 9 foot table, they never play on 8 foot tables. Sometimes they also play on 7 foot tables, and 10 foot tables. But most of the time they are on the 9 footers.
They very RARELY, actually never, play pro events on an 8' table. There are events on 7' tables but primarily, 9' tables are the norm. 8 footers are useless IMO. Save ur $ for a diamond bar box or a diamond 9 footer!
I guess I don't understand why there is a shot clock. In the fourth rack, Fedor came down to zero on the clock and nothing happened. A few more seconds went by before he shot again.
As long as you stay down and are "addressing the ball" at 00, it is legal. Good question. They don't want the buzzer going off while you're down on the shot.
A ref is there to ensure the rules are followed...pros are there to play and better be sure they know all the rules. Now theres no really unified rules in pool but at the end of the day if the ref told him of a foul before it happened is still bad juju plain and simple. American football refs dont rush the field to tell someone they're lined up offsides etc...
@@dfynt1G pull that in a tournment with me or better a cash game im telling you and any one else if YOU start to foul I will tell you before if i see you doing it.... It is the honest thing to do any thing else is trash
It is not a foul, but the breaker does have a "Non-Compliant" break. There is a 3-point rule on the break. You get a point for each ball pocketed and a point for each ball that passes the head string. Score less than 3 and it's a non-compliant break. The opponent has the option of shooting or giving it back to the breaker.
As long as the player is "addressing" the cue ball, it is not a foul when the timer goes to 00. No one has taken advantage of the obvious. If the player gets off the shot or starts looking around, then it's a foul.
Why can't Americans stick to the American traditional billiard ball colors we all here in the country have been using. 1 = yellow. 2 = blue. 3 = red. 4=purple. 5 = orange. 6 = green. 7 = maroon. 8 = black. Then 9 thru 15 group, having the stripe color matching 1 to 7, adding by adding 8. (7 low group plus 8 is 15 high)

So this match was played in January I guess? It's the middle of June now. Now how does the Russian invasion of the Ukraine affect Fedor Gorst and his pool career around the world
Only thing I don't like is that Matchroom has taken over all aspects of major pool nowadays and they're primarily UK/European.... The American game of Billiards has been compromised as now ALL European now who run all MAJOR events, terrible time for pool
Captain America wins again and against probably the best all around player in the world next to Alex hell Fedor won the one pocket and banks tournament this year
Fedor tops the money leader board with $173,000, Filler won $122,000 so far this year and SVB is at $98,000. And Fedor wasn't allowed to play for months here because of Putin's war in the Ukraine but nevertheless he's on top!

You would think professional players would know the rules more than a working man, but I didn’t contest it because I didn’t want to go all the way downstairs to tournament desk. Needless to say I have no respect for either of them. Ended up losing 9-6, not to say I would have won but I could have made it closer at least.
Is this on a 9’ or an 8’?
It's a 9 foot table, they never play on 8 foot tables. Sometimes they also play on 7 foot tables, and 10 foot tables. But most of the time they are on the 9 footers.
They very RARELY, actually never, play pro events on an 8' table. There are events on 7' tables but primarily, 9' tables are the norm. 8 footers are useless IMO. Save ur $ for a diamond bar box or a diamond 9 footer!
Is anyone can tell me why if the player after break and there is ball goes in pocket.. then why the opponent make a shot ?
In all my 30 something yrs of watching professional pool I've never seen a referee warn a player that they're about to commit a foul. Wtff was that??
Ref screwed up!
the person presiding this match is not a certified referee. They were acting as a tournament official.
@@capoman1 Makes sense to me! Thanks.
I laugh every time I hear Mark say well he missed it on the pro side not the amateur side that's great but he still missed lol 😂
But he didn't leave anything easy, that's what that means
@@robdetuinman2 yeah I understand and knew that just making an inference as to how funny it sounds
The "non-compliant" break nonsense needs to go away. It's not natural.
The players voted and chose it. So hate on the players if you like. They wanted a new pattern.
46:45 referee may or may not have told fedor he was about to foul.
they should
The ref should not inform player.
@@dfynt1G pull that in a tournment with me
or better a cash game
im telling you and any one else if YOU start to foul I will tell you before if i see you doing it.... It is the honest thing to do
any thing else is trash
Announcers even called it, the ref is not to inform the player of an oncoming foul. Rules not personal ethics.
Marc Wilson stop saying FeedOr his name is FED OR
29:02 why is it foul?
It is not a foul, but the breaker does have a "Non-Compliant" break. There is a 3-point rule on the break. You get a point for each ball pocketed and a point for each ball that passes the head string. Score less than 3 and it's a non-compliant break. The opponent has the option of shooting or giving it back to the breaker.
A game between two stalwarts
The table is larger than it appears.

what's with Fedor going over shot time so many times
As long as the player is "addressing" the cue ball, it is not a foul when the timer goes to 00. No one has taken advantage of the obvious. If the player gets off the shot or starts looking around, then it's a foul.
spend much more on cams and trying to make a better weiwing expeirience then you upload
in 720p come on such a let down upscale to 4k
The guys talk about everything but the match at hand
No push-out after the break?
Something to do with the nonsensical "noncompliant break" rule.
Why can't Americans stick to the
American traditional billiard ball
colors we all here in the country have been using. 1 = yellow. 2 = blue. 3 = red. 4=purple. 5 = orange. 6 = green. 7 = maroon. 8 = black.
Then 9 thru 15 group, having the stripe color matching 1 to 7, adding by adding 8. (7 low group plus 8 is 15 high)
the compliant break rule sucks
We agree.
Everyone thinks that. But the players voted and chose it.
I know this isn't missed connections but to the gorgeous woman on the right in the first row, if you're reading this just know when the camera panned out to your face I didn't did not pay attention to the game. I'm in love.
So this match was played in January I guess? It's the middle of June now. Now how does the Russian invasion of the Ukraine affect Fedor Gorst and his pool career around the world
Commentators, take a tip from Miles Davis . . . Silence . . . Let it breathe
Only thing I don't like is that Matchroom has taken over all aspects of major pool nowadays and they're primarily UK/European.... The American game of Billiards has been compromised as now ALL European now who run all MAJOR events, terrible time for pool
I have no problem with referee telling the player the rules about pushout.
If they ask about a rule ref can clarify. Ref can't coach & ref too. Whats next recommend a shot?
The 3 ball rule is the dumbest rule this game has ever seen
Captain America wins again and against probably the best all around player in the world next to Alex hell Fedor won the one pocket and banks tournament this year
Fedor tops the money leader board with $173,000, Filler won $122,000 so far this year and SVB is at $98,000. And Fedor wasn't allowed to play for months here because of Putin's war in the Ukraine but nevertheless he's on top!
That's a stupid break rule. They should have a speed gun. Anything over 17 miles an hour is a legal break.
I don’t like that break rule
That’s a horrible thing for a referee to do ,shame on him and The player himself for not offering Shane Van Boening Ball in Hand ,these players travel thousands of miles ,from all over the globe and to over come a call like that ,we all need to raise our standards now .
Oh it was an illegal Break rack 7
what that RUSSKIE thought he could beat S.V.B not happening
I'm an SVB fan, but stfu lol
