The men who came out of the van to initiate the shooting don’t care if they live, die or go to jail. The men who were just standing there are not angels but they do have a right to defend themselves without you saying that they don’t care if they live. They obviously want to live if they’re running and shooting back

They're indeed criminals but these aren't people raised by GTA but by a legitimately terrible environment in a poverty area and so no video games is extremely common. Just like how many grow up too poor for cable or TV, some grow up too poor for video games.
