  • Here is an astonishing performance of Evgeny Kissin playing Modest Mussorgsy "Pictures of an Exhibition". Later, when I have time, I'll cut and rip the video so that I can upload the rest of the concert.

    He is a great man!
Since his earliest performances, I saw in him a real mature and powerful artist.

so bright...the sound is stunning, maybe a bit faster than we're used to in the promenade...but truly powerful! bravissimo.

promenade is such a beautiful piece, along with most of this thing.

Yes, it is generally acknowledged to be Mussorgsky's greatest solo piano composition, and has become a showpiece for virtuoso pianists.

he is known because he is one of the pianists up there for his solid performance, but as crowdmaker said he dosen't ever move me very much

he did the best interpretation of gnomus BY FAR!!!
I simply love Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.. It actually inspired me as the first piece of music I heard (when i was about 9 or 10 years old and already in music school since I was 5 and started making music at 4), to make music what's most important my life.

Kissen is an incredibly good pianist. I heard him live in Dublin a couple of years ago. The audience went absolutely mad when he played Stravinsky among others. His whole recital was absolutely incredible. He played an enormous amount of encores. The audience didn't want to let him go. He is coming again soon to Dublin. I am so dissapointed that it is all booked out in advance and there are no tickets available.

I have to be serious: I've listened to this astonishing set a lot of times, by different pianists: Pogorelich, Yudina, Richter, Campanella, Jando, Feltman etc but nobody is so exciting like Kissin. He's unbelieavable, simply unbelieavable...

Leonidas Leonardi FTW! All of you who are believers-followers please support the Leonidas Leonardi orchestration for "Pictures at an Exhibition". Leonidas Leonardi was a pupil Maurice Ravel. Search him on wikipedia.

All the greats know their music and piano like the back of their hands; having music would be pointless. Could you imagine watching him try and follow the music on paper?

I personally find both versions have advantages. An orchestra can produce a fuller, richer, more diverse sound, while the solo piano has more freedom to take time where needed/desired, and can achieve a certain intimacy that an orchestra just can't.

i would enjoy hearing this piece played on tins cans and pieces of scrap metal...
because music isn't about sticking to convention, its about using your imagination...
i wonder if Modest would have been into metal and grunge?...
i really love this song, of course i know nothing about music just what i like...
i know i never really liked the classical crowd because they are kinda arrogant...
i don't think the music is...just the people
sometimes its just nice to feel music not critique it

  • @crowdmaker
    @crowdmaker 17 лет назад

Nope. If anything his story is amazing because he's one of the few big-name pianists today that never had to win any competition to get their career going. But his playing isn't bad. Very solid, serious pianist, but not self-aware and consciously so. A pianist who never bores me when I listen to him. More than satisfies, but alas also never really moves me.

9 out of ten performers do murder this piece.
And just because the sound is unique does not make it fitting. A bosendorfer is a much nicer piano, and I find it easier to play than a Steinway.

I feel so sorry for everyone who shits on tempo or cant feel feelings in kissins play!! TABU No. 1 in PIANO world: Kissin cant play emotional enough because he never had sex... please be serious!! How much sex did Glenn Gould had or Vincent van Gogh! is that a measure to be an artist :) I dont think so. i have heard in my life to many bad critics about him, about his tempi... TEMPO! is maybe that a measure to be an artis? :) people people... open your ears! ok. ok. i also prefer P. L. Aimard :)
