The sound that Rostropovich makes is beyond compare. It is so sweet and and the intonation is impeccable. I liked that the pianist and Rostropovich did not go so fast in this piece. It is meant to be savored not thrown away like a race to the finish.
The reason for the imbalance is that Rostropovich has a bigger name in the pecking order, therefore he has the higher volume. Logical but tragic, not least for the people who bought this recording. Lovely piece! Not played enough!
Amazing performance, love it! I don't know what the sound engineers were smoking though, the piano is WAY to far in the background. Maybe they thought: "oh dear, the piano part has so many notes, quick! ... let's turn down the volume, before anyone finds out!"
@@tatsushiru Did You try to play the piano part? It is just IMPOSSIBLE to play so many notes pianissimo, that is why sound engineers are blamed. And even if the pianist played so quiet, they should be there to make it more hearable:)
Both are very good at what they do, too bad the engineers don't know to balance the piano to be a partner. Nice tempo for the must part, Please take more time to savor the wonderful tender moments of this classic sonata.
of course this is sublime playing ,but why is the pianopart so much softer recorded ??? It pisses me off : its NOT a piece for cello and something murmering in the background. A disgrace, this recording ,just for that.
One of my favourite cellists of all time. Never failed to impress.

Excellent. It would be lovely to have the 3rd and 4th movements too.
This is absolutely superb.
@snaaptaker I am sorry for the delay. the pianist is Alexander Dedyuhkin. I totally agree with your point, though!
Lovely! Thanks for sharing.
This deserves to be more known then videos or cute babies or pets...
Bravo Rostropovich!
Beautiful cello playing and piano (when you can hear it) the 'recording engineers' should be shot - but then it is true in so many recordings.
fantastisch!
Thank you for the clip you are right :))
Fantastico...
Magnifique
Superb!
das ist magie!

Why are you so sure it is the sound engineers' 'blame' , not the piano party performer?

Wonderful. But who is the pianist?! He's a partner here, not just an accompanist.
Yes he is very close behind Rostropovich :)
I'm so sick of the peanut galleries on these videos. Just listen to beautiful music and keep your opinions to yourself.
I agree, Some people just can't help themselves.
Don't read them!
Fantastic beauty💙💙💙💗💙💙💙💗💙💙💙💗💖💖💖💙💝💝💝

@cynic150 That's a cynical point of view, cynic, but you are right! Its a stupid world.
Daniil Shafran please

Prefer Alexander Dedyuhkin
The amount of material he stole from Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor.. wow.
Would you be able to point out any specific parts? Would be interesting to listen to for, since I never thought of them as similar myself.
Must be honest not a big fan of this Conductor, sorry
What conductor? It’s a cellist and a pianist.
