    Hope you guys enjoyed this one. What do you guys think about the original story for Destiny?

    • @haandawg
      @haandawg 4 года назад +9

      I wish I could literally just play the orignal story for the game. The rewrite was shite in my opinion. We have lost all the connections with the initial game plot: the traveler. What purpose does it even serve now? It's very questionable in D2 as well and it's frustrating that they're more focused on sidequests rather than the main plot itself. The story for Destiny feels like a tree without the trunk. I wish I could playtest the original story myself and see how "linear" it really was.
      If you think about it, Bungie's most successful franchise, Halo, was linear in that sense too. It's a story about the chief and his mission to save humanity, but with complexities that really immerse you into the game and make you feel apart of the world. You play as chief for one mission, and Arbiter for another. I thought that was really cool to just flip sides and see from a different perspective. You felt a real connection with the characters that you don't really get in Destiny. One thing I find that has honestly saved this game from its demise is the music. Honest to God, Marty O'Donnell is one of the greatest things, along with Staten, that has helped Destiny stay above the water.
      You knoe the only mission I remember your Guardian speaking in was the first mission too; "Will it fly?" .We needed more dialogue in this game that I feel would have been there had we got the original story. It would've helped immensely to build a connection with your Guardian that presently doesn't exist at all. I'm not sure what Bungie can do to fix their game... Destiny 2 in my eyes was a real disappointment as to what could have followed on from Destiny 1. Anti-climactic boss battle, another side quest of a raid and more DLC missions that feel, again, like they're side stories and not innately linked to the main trunk of the game. They need to bring it back to the traveler and try and bring back some of the intrinsic plot that would have really thickened the franchise of Destiny and brought to life the characters and story. The music to this game though is something that remains intact and pure. Honestly a treasure to listen to these scores. Some of the best soundtracks gaming has ever seen and that's fact.

    You know what I've been thinking lately? We might face the darkness defeat it, but realize that the Traveler is just as bad as the Darkness... They might reuse Uldren as the Crow now that he's a guardian. Just a thought that popped into my head. Reusing the elements of the old to finish up what the story we got. Plus the exo that was controled by a Warmind idea- it seems that Fellwinter is the 'son' of Rasputin. At least if this season's leaks are to be believed... But we'll see :D

    • @simonmandel2621
      @simonmandel2621 4 года назад +4

      Milos Radmilac hey! I’ve had the same thoughts. Bungie has stated in the past that they haven’t completely abandoned the original story, and simply wanted to start from a different point and get there eventually. So having Uldren become the ‘Crow’ and having Cayde’s personality as the new Hunter vanguard doesn’t seem too far fetched to me. There also seems to be a connection between Osiris and his assistant, ‘The Stranger’, as he calls Sagira ‘Little Light’, the same nickname The Stranger uses for our ghost. Mara Sov was described originally as a ‘pirate queen’ character by her voice actress, and I can see her slowly becoming that, ever since The Taken King. We’ll see!

  • @abdoul5176
    @abdoul5176 5 лет назад +12

    Once again I wholeheartedly agree. @ 4:00 I think it's Mara Sov on the other line. It's a bit complex but basically my theory is the encounter with the Exo Stranger was orchestrated by a future Mara Sov to ensure we meet her in our timeline. After this cutscene we meet none other than Mara Sov for the very first time, coincidence? I don't think so especially when you consider the blatant hint that straight up tells us that they have an alliance in Mara's final Dreaming City cutscene. In lore Mara was compared to Savathûn as her foil and a worthy rival to her. Orchestrating events across multiple timelines as if she's playing multidimensional, interstellar, cosmic chess with Savathûn sounds right up her ally. Infact that analogy has been no joke used to describe Savathûn and Mara Sov's beef in lore.

They knew, the next era of business was live service model so scrapped all of Joseph Staten's years of hard work and stitched pieces of it together to dump you into microtransaction hell for years to come. These AAA studios don't give a fuck about the casual player base anymore. They only care about the pro esports players and the online live stream/RUclips content creator community that promotes their games for free. Looking back on Destiny 1, I think that complaint from Bungie's higher-ups, mainly Jason Jones, of Joseph Staten's story for Destiny being too liner comes from the fact that Bungie wanted Destiny to revisit the open-world/open-ended design of the Pre-Xbox version of Halo 1. As they did not to repeat the same linear campaign format they did successfully with Halo 1-Reach, as they were burnt out with Halo and wanted Destiny to be completely different from the Bungie games that came before.
    Story-wise, Joseph Staten's original story for Destiny 1 is basically a refined version of the Arbiter story from Halo 2 where you play as a character taking orders from a religious leader (The Speaker = Prophet of Truth) only to find out both their religion is a lie and the very thing they worship is a galaxy-destroying superweapon (Traveler = Halo rings). Thus the player character has to renounce all their beliefs and take the lead (exactly like what the Arbiter did with the Eiltes in the Covenant's Great Schism) to stop the activation of said galaxy-destroying superweapon. Jason Jones and Bungie's higher-ups might have feared it would have made Destiny repeat the similar criticisms of Halo 2's campaign levels being too liner with not enough open-level designs like in Halo 1 or Halo 3, as Bungie was still largely unhappy with how Halo 2 turned out.
    While I still think Bungie's higher-ups and Jason Jones' complaints about Joseph Staten's original story for Destiny being too liner were overreacted and overcorrected as Bungie's strength was making huge levels that feel open-ended while being linear story-based games, not open world games. Just look at how Halo 3: ODST levels in its open world are structured to be played in a linear matter, not out of order. Giving the player too much freedom and not leaving room to design set pieces for unique encounters that can only come from a linear story like the Warthog runs or big vehicle battles make for a very boring game, which is sadly what happened with Halo Infinite's campaign and Bungie's two Destiny games.

    To anyone that's watching this currently (2022):
    Paying close attention not only to the seasonal storylines, but also the overarching plot of D2 throughout Witch Queen, there's an argument to be made that Bungie has an opportunity to steer the game's current narrative closer and closer to the original plotline of Destiny 1. I most definitely have my doubts about the traveler's true intentions, and with the revelations about the hive's origins, how the darkness factors into those origins, along with the recontextualization of D1 raids with hindsight, I believe that as of now this is the greatest case for Bungie to tie in everything that's already happened together into a culmination that feeds right back into the original plotline.
    Granted, there are going to be differences. It's not reasonable to think that Bungie can just oust themselves from any narrative corners or make a perfect attempt at retconning or backtracking on stories it's already told. Even if they were to do so, I would definitely be hyper-critical and disappointed.
    With that being said, the groundwork has been laid out. Crow is in the game now, as a guardian and not as Prince Uldren. Ana Bray already took a copy of Rasputin and inserted it into an exo frame. Elsie Bray is already in game. Thanks to the drifter, questions about the traveler's true intentions and goals have pervaded the game for nearly 3 years at this point; driven even harder by Witch Queen's revelations.
    On a side note: It wouldn't surprise me if after or during The Final Shape, Humanity is finally driven out of Sol, and we gain the opportunity to start retaking worlds from the Witness, most notable Torobatl; the Cabal home world.

    This is my very long idea of what exactly Joseph Staten had been writing to begin with. You were a veteran Guardian serving the city’s supposed “cause” of protecting and saving the last of humanity, further swayed into believing the role you were given by the traveler, from the speaker. You would believe this lie until you were brought out of the waters by The Crow, who leads a secret guardian defect group that knew something was deeply wrong with the government running this refuge for humanity. He takes you and convinces you to help their plight. Supposedly this group comprised The Crow, the Exo stranger/Elsie Bray, and a few ghostless guardians. You basically were put in a position to reject your lying civilization to support the cause of a new one, even if it meant facing the alien ridden wilds. Osiris wasn’t crazy in this context. The city muddled his image when he perhaps likely stumbled upon connections that lead him to his accusations of the traveler. You gain allies like the queen and her fallen, as well as Rasputin to assist in launching an assault against the city and infiltrating the inside of the Traveler. The Black Garden was obviously meant to be the interior of the machine god, and you destroying the heart was part of the process. It makes sense now why ghost asks you “think you can kill a god?” It would’ve been a story about deception, societal brainwashing, censorship and the means to break away from that to forge your own path. To make one’s own “Destiny.” It’s also possible that the Traveler was a Vex device designed to accelerate the rise and falls of numerous races of life across the galaxy. Suggesting they were the true enemies of it all. The fallen and cabal were victims looking for revenge or reclamation. The hive were likely just a race that came to believe in the darkness but didn’t think the traveler was associated with the light. The super weapon they were working with, that likely was a shard of the traveler from that one mission. And the Vex were the truly omnipresent ones who set up everything.

  • @Solaires_Little_POG_Champ
    @Solaires_Little_POG_Champ Год назад +1

    TL:DR
    D1 story: okay
    D2 story: incoherent mess(for new and returning players)
    Taken King will always be my favourite era in Destiny, Rise of Iron is a close second. That feeling when you first encounter Oryx and the Taken on Phobos, first landing on and exploring The Dreadnought. The place felt HUGE and there was so much to explore, the story, while fairly linear and predictable, was still great. The soundtrack was amazing as well. Bow To No One during the initial trailer, Regicide while fighting Oryx, and forging your own sword from the remains of his felt amazing. Farming the hadium flakes was a little tedious sure, but the reward was worth it since the swords were unique and powerful in their own ways. I never did the raid much since I had no friends to play with, but the few times I did, I had a blast.
    I think the problem with Destiny 2's story is so much of it is cut out and in chunks, most of the DLC's are there(for now at least) and they introduce more story elements/missions in the seasons, this would be fine if all the season story content was available. "Newer player and missed out on a prior DLCs launch seasons? Sorry! have fun piecing together a story with only half of it!"
    I know theres a timeline node in the directory with a brief rundown of a seasons specific story, but its hard, for me at least, to feel invested in a story if I only know part of it. I took a break for awhile after Forsaken and came back at the start of Witch Queen, bought the DLC's I missed and played through them in order. Some of the dialogue would reference thing's that other characters or even the Guardian we play have done before, it felt like there were gaps of story I was missing and I felt kinda lost. I had already played through The Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken so I knew the story already, but for a new player? I can't imagine how confusing it is.
    Destiny 1's story left much to be desired, but at least it's still there for anyone to pick up and play at anytime

    Despite the campaign being kinda trash, D1's lore had a certain mystique and grandeur that kept everything grounded. Like as far as we knew, the hive homeworld was on the other side of an entire galaxy that they had conquered, and the worm gods were content to just chill at the bottom of their ocean while we struggled hopelessly like the countless other races the traveler had attempted to uplift in the past. Then in D2 one is just chilling on mars for some reason? and we kill it in a lame story mission? Many similar letdowns with rasputin, osiris etc.

    Maybe an unpopular opinion, but knowing what came later, I'm actually glad D1's vanilla campaign was quick bite-sized windows into each facet of the lore, locations, and enemies. If you played from the start and didn't know what it would become, I can definitely see it being frustrating. But if you got into it a bit later, D1 vanilla is actually a nice gentle introduction to everything, and the world of Destiny would seem fairly impenetrable without it.

    I totally agree. Destiny 2 can never live up to vanilla Destiny. Don't get me wrong the final shape was amazing but vanilla Destiny brings a feeling of adventure and mystery from the lore, locations, and story. If I'm being honest here I agree as well that Destiny really ended for me after Rise of Iron. In fact I still play vanilla Destiny from time to time and you still find people to play with you just got to hang out at the tower. But I've would of loved to have played the original Staten cut of Destiny. Given to what has happened at Bungie these past few days makes wonder what kind of Destiny we would have today if they had different upper management that actually cared about Destiny and its people. Well one can dream right. I hope you all are doing well my fellow guardians.

Since forsaken, and it going free to play with all these “seasons” it’s become so messy and has problems with connections and goodness knows what else. I was such a big Destiny player (it’s what I got an Xbox one to play) I was not a fan of Destiny 2. It got a little better but not much. After Forsaken I just stopped playing. I log on (if it lets me) and play crucible now and again, but the new model, and the hard push into MMORPG due to the streamers and RUclipsrs demanding it with all its numbers and stats and gobbledygook .. it’s just lost me.

    It’s still such a shame Activision was involved at all, Bungie had worked on this game for so long, even advertising it in Halle 3 ODST on little posters(which aren’t in the MCC version) so they had been working on it for so long. It had so much love and care put into it, and all the cutscenes and the length of it all actually seemed amazing….compared to the atrocity we got, which was amazing to play, but it’s story for years was basically non-existent and garbage. Hell it’s taken until The Witch Queen to really do anything that seems like true progression in the story. It actually felt well made, so did the Taken King, but I’m talking D2. It did nothing for years…Forsaken was good but all it did was kill a beloved character and then do some shit with species vaguely mentioned and just go “that’s cool right? You like this?”
    Again it was the gameplay that saved it, the story while good, didn’t have depth. That’s always been my complaint with Destiny.
    I’d give anything to at the very least see a playthrough with all the cutscenes or even just the full script and storyboards, something of what we were meant to get. Like the whole Halo 2 thing, which always leads me to…what would Halo 3 have been had we got the Halo 2 we all wanted?

    To be honest, I still find the ‘twist’ that the Traveler is evil to be really predictable and boring. I would much prefer if they just played it straight with the Traveler and it’s alignment as a benevolent being and I hope they don’t change it to make the Traveler a secretly evil one. I’m still on the fence with the “walk between the dark and light” plot thread that first started in Forsaken. I feel like that’s been one all too much in the current ‘era’ of storytelling. I’d prefer if they actually kept it more black and white with the Darkness being a wholly corrupting force, like it seemed to be in the D1 lore. But I guess we’ll see where things go.
