La Ropa is probably my favorite beach in all of Mexico. Good choice of food, accessible, and the best part for anyone with children the waves are not rough. While I don't mind Ixtapa, I usually stay in Ixtapa, but spend most of my time at La Ropa, or at least a day out on the island. Which is very touristy, but the sand is great, the waves are great, and its a fun ride out. Zihua now doesn't look like it did in the Shawshank redemption, but my first visit back in the 80s, it was very much that tiny town, in less the 30 years its grown so much. I will have to try to visit Troncones, like you I prefer smaller, quieter resorts.
