@@MackNcD Yes Elon is rich, but his statements and actions are more or less about forcing people to have children. He is advocating for no birth control and that people should only be intimate to procreate and sides with pro-life politicians whose policies tend to affect individuals without resources (money). That means more kids are being born but to poor families with less opportunities and resources. Even though it’s worked out for him, he really shouldn’t be taking that stance and speaking for the 99%.
I think people would have more children if we had more of a safety net in this country. People don’t want to have kids or are not having them out of fear and insecurity, not because they are immoral or lack responsibility. Actually, the most responsible people I know waited to have kids and only had a couple when they were sure they could raise them properly and meet its needs.
That’s why I don’t like that Elon is pushing this rhetoric. Also, I don’t think more rich people should be having kids. I think everyone who wants a child should be able to have one and should have the means. The wealthy have too much power. Elon talks and has a platform but he’s another pompous rich guy who is pretty clueless.

The old, you go as hard as you as necessarily required thing… idk. It’s hard to speculate on alternative timelines. Not everyone has the temperament for children. It definitely should be a CHOICE! Especially for the sake of all potential humans.
During 1 of my Sociology course at Texas Christian University, my professor discussed population growth where they explained that in order for population growth to be considered "stable" for every 100 couples they need to have 210 kids between them. Now, if some couples have 1 or even no kids it balances out with couples who had 4 or 5, which is fine since another factor mentioned was how countries where couples had more kids was usually because some of those kids won't reach adulthood. Meanwhile, if a couple doesn't have kids, that doesn't typically negatively impact population growth since this is the exception, & couples having more kids can be a financial burden for them by comparison to couples who have 1 or even none.
What happens when everyone in the society becomes so self centered that they choose to not have kids because it gets in the way of their personal happiness? They aren't wrong about what is happening to Japan, that culture will literally not exist in 500 years.

American black birthrates are now about the same as white. In Europe the birth rate of north africans is now plummeting.
Demographers are famous for ALWAYS getting predictions dead wrong. Paul Erlich's "Population Bomb" hysteria in the 1960s literally changed the world (eg China's 1 child policy) and ALL of his predictions turned out dead wrong.
The black plague wiped out 40-50% of Europe's population in 7 years. And right after that, Europe began the complete dominance of the planet. If numbers mattered, China and India would be Switzerland and Switzerland would be Liberia.

Here's a solution to low birth rates: Make sure families can afford to have children. Simple. And if that isn't enough, fix it with immigration. Simple. Also, maybe protect the children so they aren't murdered at school?

There's a much simpler reason the wealthy are concerned with birth rates. You touched on it earlier with "replacing the work force". It's just the key is that they don't wan't it "replaced" they want it "saturated" so buisness owners can brandish (and carry out) the threat of easily relacing a worker while constantly trying to underpay them. It's the same concept as them saying "nobody wants to work anymore", when really there's just no point in working just to still be unable to afford anything more than food.

I thought the wealthy would just content themselves with moving shop from the US and Europe to "poor countries".
It took me 35 years to find a career that could pay for my healthcare/housing/food/retirement…. By then it was too late. So. Yeah. If society supported me via efficient education and clear career paths toward a living wage then maybe I would have had time for procreation.
There's nothing wrong with being a late bloomer, but weird that you blame society when most people do figure it out and procreate both in the US and in much poorer countries.

My mother had two kids and kicked us both out before we were 18 and was extremely emotionally and verbally abusive and physically abusive when we were kids. Not everyone should have kids

My friends with kids always express jealously, when I go to Ireland or Paris or on a Greek Island cruise.
I've never been jealous of having to change diapers, listening to a screaming child, finding a babysitter or sitting through a school play. I'm sure having kids is very fulfilling but you can't act like it doesn't come at a steep price that goes beyond the financial.

I know people that should never have kids. My advice as a mother of two ( that I love with all my heart) If you don't want kids you absolutely should not have them. If you're not sure if you want kids, don't have them until you know you want them. Kids are expensive and hard. You have to mold kids into productive and mentally healthy members of Society. All kids grow up and become adults. You can't just have them and never pay attention to them or use them as your personal whipping post when you are aggravated at the world. We already have too many kids born to people who don't need to have them.
Where I come from in East Tennessee we have major drug problems. I know too many drugged-up parents that have three and four and five kids running around that they cannot take care of. These kids grow up to be criminals and usually drug addicts themselves. No one should be having kids just to be having kids.
The pink elephant in the room is that they need workers for their kids to exploit to maintain their family lifestyles.

here is how you improve birth rates: 1) ensure every parent has paid maternity/paternity leave 2) ensure all americans have access to healthcare 3) make it easier to pay down long-standing debt such as student loans and healthcare debt 4) fix the education system (the privatization of standardized tests) and in such a way that every single kid leaves highschool prepared for a trade 5) ensure daycare is available and affordable 7) ensure housing is affordable 6) and for the love of god ensure we're safe from mass shooters. without these benefits our country is just too hostile to become a parent. countries that don't have birth rate issues have most of these benefits already. falling birthrates isn't only due to birth control and choice. it's about men and women looking around and recognizing we live in a system that does not support people, families, and communities but instead benefits corporations and the super wealthy.

Its not birth control its women not wanting to put up with poor partnership they want good partners but what do they do? Blame something else. Also cost of living is wild and childcare is expensive. Everything going up but people's checks. I think women have been misled into thinking they can have a 10-year career before starting a family. The truth is they are beyond the halfway point in their fertility lifespan only four years after college (age 26). How many women know this? Virtually none! At age 35 the average woman has a 3% chance of getting pregnant each month -down from 25% at age 20... So if a woman starts trying at age 35 to have a kid they will have their first child at age 38.5!! One child family because at 38.5 fertility has dropped to a 1% chance of getting pregnant every month!

If society was geared towards raising healthy, happy safe children and strong families through paying a true living wage, providing universal healthcare and not allowing gun nuts to murder children in schools maybe the people who want to have kids might do that.

Children are expensive and many people are struggling just to make it on their own.
He has 10 kids with 3 different women. I’m curious to know if his kids feel like they each get ample time with him in order to feel sufficiently fathered when they grow up. Not talking throwing loads of money at them. I’m talking going to ballet recital or school basketball games or reading to them at night. Not impressed if all you’re doing is pumping out kids that will eventually need therapy when they grow up.

I had 6 miscarriages trying to have kids and while I was going through all of that was constantly bombarded with the “when are you going to have kids?” questions. Every time it’s this big fat reminder that I’m having miscarriage after miscarriage and it really hurt like hell to constantly have to dance around the very private subject all the f’ing time! Raising kids without a decent social net in America is a soul sucking experience. Kids are great, and they deserve decent food, housing, clothing, schools without violence and guns, childcare, childcare credits per child, universal healthcare, and transportation for extracurricular activities. Also: music, arts, athletics and alternative teaching methods in our schools to encourage different interests for each child. Adequate supplies for schools to include technology to chess sets and ereaders for our kids! Also, free tutoring because already exhausted parents should not be expected to spend hours every night helping their kids with homework. Family leave and flexible schedules for I’ll children would have all been very nice. I had 3 kids, and if my kids had anything, it was all on me - the government didn’t offer help at all!
I'm so lucky never to have seriously wanted kids. I've never had the economic means or a responsible/worthy partner anyways. In a big sense, I feel like I've made it right for my would-be kids by protecting them from a life of poverty and emotional trauma. In my forties, being single means I've managed to have a decent middle-class life despite being unemployed most of the time. I sometimes have troubles making ends meet but can override it by cutting back on expenses/social life and moving back with my parents at times. It would be so sad just imagining being a single-parent and having even less money as consequence.
I would hate to bring a kid to the bs that's going on society right now.
I mean just to know they want to teach Christianity in schools.... that bs makes me glad I'm not dealing with that bs!
Solutions to the low birthrate:
1. Paying workers an actual living wage.
2. Give people some off time from their jobs
3. Stop dumbing down the public education system and lower the cost of college
4. Get the economy back in shape and lower inflation so people could afford to have children.
