Normal person: “If you were up close it wouldn’t look that good”. Sam: “If you were playing cards with someone you’d be like wow that foundation was a choice”.
Maddie Acosta my mom, bless her soul, is trying so hard to get into makeup cuz of me and she told me she watched some videos. she told me very excited, again bless her adorable soul, that concealer should be applied like a giant triangle under the eye. i had to back track her so hard to show her how to properly apply concealer so it’s not a giant ass mess under the eye. i’m so glad that trend is mostly over with.
Morgan Heine for some reason after reading your comment I walked straight to my makeup stash and FINALLY threw away the shape tape concealer I’ve had for 4 years! 🙊No, I haven’t been using it. Just for some reason holding on to it. Aye! 🤦🏽♀️ thanks for the motivation 😝
Amy Mujagic they just announced they’re dropping new panned cream bronzers and blushes, I’m assuming they’ll be a bit more creamy than the matchsticks from what I’ve heard!
I wonder if the Kosas foundation has an issue sitting on the skin because it has so much oil and you’re using it with a beauty blender dampened with water and they’re repelling each other. Most people I see that enjoy that product use their fingers to blend it so maybe that could be an issue?
The first time I tried the Charlotte tilbury Hollywood flawless filter I hated it but it turns out I was just applying way too much and now it’s like my favorite thing in the world. Also I think a cool video would be testing alleged dupes for your favorite high end products
Creamy Goodness have you seen @rawbeautykristi ‘s latest video? She does the closest most helpful up close shots of her foundation that I’ve ever seen. Not that Sam needs to do the same but like she said above, I think swapping to a closer lense would be a satisfying happy medium.
Lol I was gonna say this too because I thought the foundation looked really good on her, but also you know your face/imperfections better than anyone else so you notice them more than anyone so that could aIso be why I didn’t see it
For the hard pan on the highlighter - press a piece of scotch tape over the area and gently peel it up. Does the trick every time! Has saved many a pressed powder for me.
Sam's jokes always make me blow through my nose quite loudly (like a snort laugh?), and my boyfriend is always like "is it the blond Canadian girl again?"
I honestly can’t think of a product that I reused after not liking in the first place. Plus I have a 14 year old who happily takes the things I don’t care for... also takes things I do care about....
I'm pretty sure Sam and Matt had broken up there for a second some years ago so that worked out perfectly for her. Why wouldn't it also work for products then 😂
Omg ty! Finally someone that doesn’t like the fenty highlights! I really started thinking something was wrong with me lol. I dislike glitter in my highlights and that’s a huge reason I could never get in to them.
I’m going to need Sam to take over as a cosmetic consultant to Melt or some such brand and make a “Sam line” that is up to her standards, vegan and cruelty free. And not exorbitantly priced. With stellar packaging. That ships everywhere. 💜
I literally hate every mascara I first try and then 3 months later when I pull it out and it’s all dried up I’m like wow this is the greatest mascara ever
Try mixing the Kosas in with another foundation to make it more dewy or sheer it out! I have dry skin and that's the only way I've been able to make it work for me. I don't think I'll re-purchase, but it has helped me use foundations that would be otherwise too drying, too full-coverage, or the wrong shade. I have issues making it work alone. It seems to separate and pill up no matter what type of moisturizer I use underneath or how long I let it sink in.
Kyle Richardson My fav mix so far is with IT cosmetics CC cream. Sometimes the coverage with the IT CC cream is a little too extra for me so the Kosas is good for keeping the dewy finish but bringing it down a notch. I’ve also mixed with NARS tinted moisturizer and Estée Lauder double wear. I mix with NARS mainly to adjust the shade and double wear because it’s another foundation that’s a little too drying on me. Edit: also mixed with physicians formula healthy skin! That was a little less successful. I’m definitely not recommending to go out and buy any new foundations to mix with it, but see what you’ve got laying around and experiment!
I feel like this video helps highlight why it's so important to choose to watch creators with integrity! There are many other RUclipsrs who would put those products on and act like they loved them, and some people will believe them because it looks great from our side of the lens due to lighting and filters (not implying that Sam uses a filter, pretty sure she doesn't) and all that jazz. You could have easily told us that those products looked good in person and that you loved them. But you didn't because you are one of the few RUclipsrs with that "integrity" word and I love you for it! 😘
Tatcha Silk Canvas primer... Everyone loves it but every time I use it I feel like my makeup bunches up in certain areas even when I use a super thin layer. I feel so betrayed? Idk
The thing is the Kosas foundation is just 6 natural oils with a pigment added. You’re supposed to use it with a synthetic brush, not a sponge (although I’ve used it both ways and been fine). It’s meant to absorb into your skin like skincare would, and just leave the pigment on top of the skin. It tends to look better once it soaks in a bit and dries down. Because I have a lot of texture like Sam and also dry skin, I use mine as a mixer with more dry foundations in my collection to make them glowy. And I always use a setting spray or facial mist at the end of my routine depending on how dry or dewy I look once my full face is done. Full disclosure I used to represent this brand in Sephora, so I’ve experimented a lot with how to make it look best on me for when I was in store selling. :) love your videos, Sam! 💖
Love your reviews Samantha... I don’t want to hurt your feelings by asking what I’m about you ask, but you are so great with tutorials and I feel like you could help a lot of us. I would love it if you did a tutorial on the do’s and don’t of applying makeup on textured areas of the face. I have the same acne scars on my cheeks, plus pores AND a bit of fine lines and sometimes I’m done with my makeup and my scars or texture are soooo exaggerated while other times, it looks great, but I can’t figure out what is the step/s I did wrong. I need help man! Lol I don’t think I’m bad at applying makeup, but I’m clueless with my texture. I can sort of manage my pores, but not scars. Help!!! 😆
I have a lot of texture too and honestly when it comes to covering it, less is more. There’s only so much you can really do but it’ll show more of you keep putting layers on it. For pores I also like to use a thicker eye primer (Mac paint pot is the best) cause it’ll kinda help fill them in more than a normal pore filling primer.
I still love tarte shape tape. Lately everyone on you tube is kinda dogging it, like “oh it’s so cakey.” But they’re applying a ton of it. I literally just use the tiniest dab and it covers my under eye circles and doesn’t crease as much as others do.
You're right, as someone with oily skin the fenty highlight on the sheer side just melts into my skin (and the weird not being able to pick up product is what people call 'hard pan'). When I wear it I actually layer the two on my cheeks and use the sheer on my nose/around the brows. The hourglass lipsticks are oddly long wearing.
I have the Hourglass lipstick in the shade “Everytime” and I love ittt. The formula is so smooth and I actually really love the packaging and the size of the actual product because of how it applies. I’ll definitely buy another to refill when I run out of the one I have. It’s a splurge, but it has a much better formula and application than they larger lip stylo. I bought one of the stylo ones and I hate the way it smells and how it applies.
At 23:32 when she said 'I feel like someone somewhere gets what I'm saying' I was screaming at the screen 'YEEESSSSS' like as if she was directly talking to my soul 😭
Beauty gurus always used like an ounce of fricken shape tape around their eyes and could never understand how they didn’t look like space cakes under they eyes 👀😝
Miss Pocket It actually makes me look at all of them different because there is no way that looks good in real life and they made it seem like it does. Idk I feel lied to
Kimber Corbitt I’ve heard it’s a good product but the smell other folks have mentioned keeps me from trying it. Fragrances and scents are big no-no’s for me too...rose oils, aloe and every essential oil out there.
I love that you kept those products. I don’t automatically judge a product on first use either. Sometimes using different techniques, less product or different skincare underneath makes all the difference.
Maybe keep the fenty highlight as an eyeshadow? I don’t do powders anymore either. Looking forward to your review (hopefully) of the fenty cream bronzers 😬
Finally someone said it lol ! Those fenty highlighters were such a fail for me, I hated the texture of them , they looked weird on the skin, I never understood the hype
Kmallari no worries glad to help. I wish I didn’t spend the money on it. I much prefer the new nabla skin glazing highlighters or my Jouer highlighters for that nice intense wet look
I bought that diamond one. It was literally flaky glitter ALL over my face. I just figured I was doing it wrong. Everyone everywhere was singing its praises. I'm 44 years old I'm past glitter highlight or anywhere except for my eyelid! Back to Sephora it went.
Debbie Tomassi omg yes same ! That diamond bomb one was so bad , I’m 29 and it aged my skin so much because the glitter would settle in fine lines I didn’t even know I had. Very chunky highlighters I can’t imagine them looking good on anyone honestly but the hype they received and over the top reviews confuse me. Makes me question the honesty of a lot of other influencers.
When it comes to the Fenty highlights, I own the lightning dust/fire crystal one and I love it. I think they work best when the shades are mixed together. Also spraying your brush when the highlighter is on the best before it’s applied. Makes them beautiful
All 3 of the elf foundation and the concealers I’ve tried. I’m pretty sure I gave them more chances than my ex boyfriend and at one point they just all had to go. I love elf and they’re affordability but they just did not work for dry skin!
i honestly can't get behind the nars radiant creamy concealer to this day. i dont know why i hate it, it just does nothing for me and everyone raves about it constantly🥴
That was the first concealer I ever used and it was awful. Everyone says it's great for dry skin but every time I used it, my undereyes looked dry and patchy.
I always wonder if they look in the mirror before they leave the house. It's so distracting talking to them, I cant even remember what I asked because I can't believe how their "makeup" looks. Men and women!!
I see pan in the Fenty Bronzer! Also, I can see the patchiness with the Melt Blush. That's most definitely the colour of sunburn. I have oily skin but I feel like a lot of highlights people like, I hate, maybe because I don't get oily on my cheekbones. Thanks for steering me away from the Fenty highlighters cuz I've been going back and forth about them since they came out. I'm the kinda person that uses Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders as highlighters and I think I'll stick to that and my Becca liquid
I have medium dry skin I love the peach side of the Fenty, I think it is called Hustla baby the light pinky side has that muted weird stripe look, I bought the mini peach version and gave away the more expensive duo. I'm w/you on the hourglass LOVE the product, I bite the bullet and buy the face powders, but the lip product, I just can't do it even though I would love too!
I highly recommend using a transparent deodorant if you can find one that you’re okay using. I actually use men’s deodorant (deodorant, no antiperspirant). My fav is Old Spice Wolfthorne or something, the name starts with wolf. I no longer get that white buildup in the crease. Then again, if you dgaf it doesn’t fucking matter! Lol
I may be one of the few, but when I started getting more into makeup the Lash Paradise mascara was recommended by so many, and I bought it, I used it, I hated it. It went bye-bye real quick. To me it wasn't worth keeping for later.
Sam, would you do a new video on Glossier products? I would love to know your thoughts on the futuredew, skywash, bubblewrap, zit stick, soothing face mist, new shades of lipgloss, etc love you
I love these videos!!! I love knowing why u dislike something gives me more info on how your skin does with products. My skin is super textured and I always have weird issues with products that I feel like no one else does.
The Wet n Wild photofocus foundation.. applied with a brush/sponge/fingers, difference based primers (silicon, oil etc), moisturized or unprepped skin. It doesn't seem to want to cooperate with my face at all
Same! I'm 36, combination skin, very dry cheeks. I tried it a couple years ago, with different powders, different moisturizers, different applications etc. and at first it would look barely acceptable. BUT, only 2-3 hours of wear and it'd look HORRENDOUS on me, like I had it on for 12+ hours...
I’m so glad this video happened. I too made a choice for Kosas oil foundation and I was the girl getting stared at on board game night. It was not my finest hour, but at least I crushed them all.
Shape tape over the becca corrector looks good. I remember the first time I put the Charlotte tilbury Hollywood flawless filter on and it looked so thick and it wouldn't blend with my foundation (It was either mac face and body or the milani one, can't remember). It took me years to splurge on that and I only did because it was on sale. I was devastated, really disappointed. Couldn't believe how bad it looked. Now it looks great some days and awful in others. It's like "cross your fingers and roll the dice" every time lol.
I really like the concept of this video! Most other youtubers try stuff out, don't like it, say they'll keep trying and letting us know...but they never do. For the next videos, can you put closeups in? As you said to us the foundation looked fine, because we couldn't see you closeup!
My boyfriend heard Sam say “it smells like paint” and then he put a jar of paint in my face and said “baby, if you smell this you’ll be watching in 4D”
Dlecutter that Fenty stuff Sam, you know why??? BECAUSE THEY ARE COMIIIIING WITH NEW CREAM PRODUCTS!!! Blush, bronzers and a new highlighter stick that looks freakin majestic!
I loooooooove the Kosas skin tint oil. I found that applying it with my fingers was the best way to get it to not look streaky. when I use a sponge it just doesn't quite sink into the skin as well, but when applied with my fingers - its glorious. Though tbh I do tend to fall into the category you said where my skin doesn't have acne, I DO have some rosacea, but not too bad. so for me its usually just needing to tone down the pink in my cheeks (no blush for me!)
Please do a video on the controversial products. Just add a photo of the shape tape foundation. Would really love to see that, I value your opinions!!!
I love the Fenty highlighters because they just melt into my skin. However, my face is super oily. I use all powders in my Setting/bronzer/blush ect... and my face will be oily/dewy looking an hour later.
I think this "revisiting bad first impressions" style of video is hugely helpful. I really liked it! It's making me want to do the same with my makeup. Love you Sam!
That foundation is whack. Its almost like the oil gets absorbed and all these powder pigments get left behind on the surface. I tried it with a brush, my hands, and a beauty blender and the result was the exact same.
I’m almost embarrassed to say this, but back when brow gels/brow mascaras came out, I HATTTEEDD them. Mind you, I was still BFFs with my dip brow so I think that was my issue, also I just remember them first coming around right in the peak of the Instagram brow phases so poor timing, and everyone sort of put them in a corner. Now that I’ve matured and learned what’s good for me in life, you couldn’t pry my brow gels off my dead body. But it definitely took a bit of some chipping at my ego to try them again.
just wanted to say thank you for uploading this video today. I have potentially (but probably) the worst day in the history of all my days but watching your videos instantly brightens my mood and helps me take my mind off if things. lots of love xx
Normal person: “If you were up close it wouldn’t look that good”.

Nice!
“That foundation was a choice...” I just paused to look for this.
Um Kalthoom Abdul-Mateen so did I! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m that girl that would be sitting there silently judging you 😂
Lol I legit said “Sam, wtf are you talking about”.
Remember the giant triangles of shape tape days? Ahh, 2016. What a time.
90% of instagram is still doing their makeup like that. Horrifying.
Yes 😭 I bought shape tape and it is still one of my makeup regrets to this day! It was so dry and cakey. I don’t know what I was thinking

Mariana Yumi I also use wayyyyy less.
I was going to say something similar... The warmth from a finger application may be a game changer for that foundation.
Ahhh interesting!! That's such a good point.
I agree. I use my hands to apply this foundation and it really works. I think that in this case water does not go well with oil in the foundation.
That makes sense, interesting
The first time I tried the Charlotte tilbury Hollywood flawless filter I hated it but it turns out I was just applying way too much and now it’s like my favorite thing in the world.
Also I think a cool video would be testing alleged dupes for your favorite high end products
Highlight on the word ALLEGED 😁
Do you use it mainly over or under makeup. I have that and I keep reaching for my Chanel Soleil Tan Fluid over it.
JessIca Braun just said No 7 may be a dupe...it’s her new video today. I’m going to try it.
I hated it because I had in a shade too dark. I got a much lighter shade and it functions a bit better.
”alleged” lmao
hi sam, can you zoom in on your skin when you’re pointing out issues with products? we can’t see what you’re talking about! 💛
Michaela b this is as far as this lens zooms in but I’ll remember to swap to a different lens for closeups next time :)
She is already zoomed in more than any other major beauty guru IMO.
Creamy Goodness have you seen @rawbeautykristi ‘s latest video? She does the closest most helpful up close shots of her foundation that I’ve ever seen. Not that Sam needs to do the same but like she said above, I think swapping to a closer lense would be a satisfying happy medium.
I agree I’ve seen big you
tubers zoom in like Kathleen does good close ups
Lol I was gonna say this too because I thought the foundation looked really good on her, but also you know your face/imperfections better than anyone else so you notice them more than anyone so that could aIso be why I didn’t see it
Sam “it doesn’t even look that bad in the viewfinder” ravndahl
For the hard pan on the highlighter - press a piece of scotch tape over the area and gently peel it up. Does the trick every time! Has saved many a pressed powder for me.
Interesting. I've never heard of this trick.
Mind blown
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Yes, and if the tape doesn't work you can rub gently with a dry paper towel or tissue to "exfoliate" off the hard pan lol
viddynovic - Yes!!! I’ve definitely done that when the tape trick doesn’t work

I feel like MELT is what Urban Decay used to be. Bold, different... dare I say... Urban?
I agree. I feel like sometimes Urban decay is on brand and sometimes it is way off brand.
I don’t totally disagree, but Melt eyeshadows are undefeated. Those stacks are so so good.
Kelly Mears oh yeah! Pricey though.
Melt is sooooo expensive 😩
Melt is too much 'instagram makeup' IMO. Urban Decay has always been more useful than that.

Which have you been combining it with? I’ve got the kosas but am having the same issues lol

I’ve heard it’s a good product but the smell other folks have mentioned keeps me from trying it. Fragrances and scents are big no-no’s for me too...rose oils, aloe and every essential oil out there.
The morphe one smells like that too
THAT FOUNDATION oh my god never again. it smelled like industrial paint. even after applied, i smelled like wet paint on my face. so bad.
The Pat McGrath mascara smelled like paint.
Sams just out here huffing paint in her vids. Someone needs an intervention 😂
Melissa Williams 🤣🤣🤣
I love how it doesn’t just smell like fresh paint it smells like, ‘if you want over to your friends house and they had just painted’ 😂
I hate the fenty highlights as highlight but there so good as eyeshadow. I'd have so much more of them if she made them eyeshadows.
@@charissacasi6216 me too!! they're so pretty, but i just can't justify spending that much on a single shadow
Finally someone said it lol ! Those fenty highlighters were such a fail for me, I hated the texture of them , they looked weird on the skin, I never understood the hype
Glad to hear I’m not the only one, there is way too much chunky glitter
Rayan .A I was planning on trying the highlight. Thanks now its a total pass for me.
Brooke Emmons agreed!!
All 3 of the elf foundation and the concealers I’ve tried. I’m pretty sure I gave them more chances than my ex boyfriend and at one point they just all had to go. I love elf and they’re affordability but they just did not work for dry skin!
I have one of those melt blushlights and to me it's a blush topper and I love it for layering with matt and satin blushes
Anna Hüttner it looks like it would be beautiful as a topper😻
😂 watching this as I apply my Kosas foundation. Different strokes, man!
this video is unfortunately longer than my lunch break but i’m so excited to watch after work tonight!!!!
I’ve literally struggled not to ask, “oh wow, that’s the foundation you chose? On purpose?” 😂🤦🏻♀️
I laughed so hard when you would stop applying a product mid way because it wasn't working. Hahaha
Ashley Hart She has impeccable comedic timing.
Sam,
You are a divine, respectable human being who is bad AF.☺️💓💜
i honestly can't get behind the nars radiant creamy concealer to this day. i dont know why i hate it, it just does nothing for me and everyone raves about it constantly🥴
kat spanovic same!!! Threw mine out!
That was the first concealer I ever used and it was awful. Everyone says it's great for dry skin but every time I used it, my undereyes looked dry and patchy.
el I use it to spot conceal, I don’t necessarily think it’s made for the under eyes. More so the face:)
Me too!!
I hate it.
I feel like the Hourglass lipstick would be a nice "wedding day" type of product where you treat yourself to something special
Since you only read comments in the first hour...just wanted to say you're just amazing, funny and lovable. Hugs from Croatia 😉
your description box for this video is hilarious!!!!!
"that foundation was a choice" is a thought I've had with Sephora workers wearing MASKS of full coverage foundation
Oh man! A lot of them wear makeup as if they're on camera or Instagram. Like it's not bad by any means. It's just a lot I guess.
I always wonder if they look in the mirror before they leave the house. It's so distracting talking to them, I cant even remember what I asked because I can't believe how their "makeup" looks.
Men and women!!
Wow super judgmental
Lmao lets make fun of low paid retail workers! Because they make different choices than you! So edgy and cute. Gag
Also referring to people as “workers” and not employees. You’re gross bro and makeup won’t fix it.
“ a gift .. or a gift for myself” smh Samantha
“One hit, one kill” Sam is back 🙌🏻❤️
Is this video about makeup or my dating life in 2019?
Lol
sam: *says the word "intense"*
my brain: camping's in tents
The term you were looking for when doing the hand pinchers to the Fenty highlight is hard pan
You should try the la roch posay BB cream, it’s literally my perfect “foundation” and we have similar skin concerns 😊
I may be one of the few, but when I started getting more into makeup the Lash Paradise mascara was recommended by so many, and I bought it, I used it, I hated it. It went bye-bye real quick. To me it wasn't worth keeping for later.
I love you Sam omg did you hear what happened to your favorite bite chai gloss???
Jennifer Gomez omg stop I don’t wanna talk about it 😩😩😩
Did it get discontinued?
Yes🥺
Sam, would you do a new video on Glossier products? I would love to know your thoughts on the futuredew, skywash, bubblewrap, zit stick, soothing face mist, new shades of lipgloss, etc
love you
I love these videos!!!
It doesn't seem to want to cooperate with my face at all
Phoebe Yule ugh it always looks so makeup-y and dry on my skin and it sucks bc everyone raves about it???
Lemme just also say that you adding only a brow gel to have your brows look that amazing has me JEALOUS AFFFFF
Can’t wait to silently cackle at work watching this
Oh, that compacting of the fenty highlight! Same thing happens to me with EVERY Colourpop super shock product. Shadows, blushes, all of them.
I really like the concept of this video! Most other youtubers try stuff out, don't like it, say they'll keep trying and letting us know...but they never do. For the next videos, can you put closeups in? As you said to us the foundation looked fine, because we couldn't see you closeup!
i would LOVE to see a fav bronzers video from you... i want to try a new once with the vib sale, was thinking of trying the perricone or fenty
My boyfriend heard Sam say “it smells like paint” and then he put a jar of paint in my face and said “baby, if you smell this you’ll be watching in 4D”
Christy W that’s cute 😂
“What if I just left my nose like this?” You’d look like an animal crossing character 🥺💕
“That foundation was a choice” Hahahaha my worst fear
Dlecutter that Fenty stuff Sam, you know why??? BECAUSE THEY ARE COMIIIIING WITH NEW CREAM PRODUCTS!!! Blush, bronzers and a new highlighter stick that looks freakin majestic!
The Kosas foundation looks BEAUTIFUL on camera Sam, I can’t see what you’re talking about 😅
I loooooooove the Kosas skin tint oil.
This video feels like a more mature version of those “full face of makeup I HATE” ones, I dig that
I love the Fenty highlighters because they just melt into my skin. However, my face is super oily. I use all powders in my Setting/bronzer/blush ect... and my face will be oily/dewy looking an hour later.
Anna Tries to Garden SAME SAME SAME
I think this "revisiting bad first impressions" style of video is hugely helpful. I really liked it! It's making me want to do the same with my makeup. Love you Sam!
That foundation is whack. Its almost like the oil gets absorbed and all these powder pigments get left behind on the surface. I tried it with a brush, my hands, and a beauty blender and the result was the exact same.
SAM. THE NEW BITE FOUNDATION. It’s too thick and I feel like it sits on my skin. I NEED TO LOVE IT, HOW DO I LOVE IT
The debt beauty highlighter... hardpan, that's the word lol and yes. Yes I do.
I use a small amount of shape tape around my eyes and red areas of my face and tap it to blend out and have found I don’t even need foundation
just wanted to say thank you for uploading this video today. I have potentially (but probably) the worst day in the history of all my days but watching your videos instantly brightens my mood and helps me take my mind off if things. lots of love xx
would love to see a video on your photography ♥️♥️♥️🙏🏽
I hope she sees this! ♥
the hourglass lippie always reminds me of that rod of cigarette Cruella always waves around as if it were fairy wand evil version
