This Red Sox team gets underrated compared to their 2004 squad largely because it never had to break a generational curse against an evil empire but in many ways it was superior.
Some say this series was over before it started, if not after the literal leadoff HR I think that basically the turning point was that 1st base game 2 pickoff in the late innings
Adding insult to injury in Denver: one day after this WS ended, the Broncos lost on Monday Night Football in overtime on an 80 yard Brett Favre walkoff touchdown
I think also because this was the first World Series that started on a weekday and not a weekend, so its only one Sunday Night game they had to cut out, unlike before when the WS game 2 and game 7 were played on Sunday Night
If I remember correctly, the first time the NFL decided to schedule SNF against the World Series was 2010. Now, the World Series doesn't schedule on Sunday nights, although they do go up against Monday Night Football.
2 of these games coincided with local area football happenings: Game 2 was at the same time Matt Ryan led Boston College to a dramatic late comeback at Virginia Tech Before game 4, the Patriots at one point led Washington 52-0
@@chrisuncleahmad666 From 03-2018 was there a single down year in Boston sports? 2012? When the Pats only made it to the conference championship and lost? No conference champions? 2015, 09, 05 and 06. Subtract those years and you have 12 championships and 18 finals appearances across all 4 major sports. What a run. I dream of a Bears/Cubs 2 decade run of dominance
I maintain to this day that the 2007 World Series was not a fair fight. The Red Sox, the best team in the majors, were still on a competitive high from their 3-1 comeback against Cleveland in the ALCS while the Rockies had a week off from their 21-1 run and any chance they might have had vanished into the Denver thin air with that layoff.
RSOX offseason moves: - This was Curt Schilling final MLB season, as he has retired. - This was Dough Mirabelli final MLB season, as he has retired - This was Eric Gagne only season with the RSOX, as he will sign with the Brewers in the offseason
Mirabelli and Schilling both re-signed with the Red Sox in the offseason. Mirabelli got released during the middle of spring training ‘08 and Schilling didn’t make any appearance in ‘08 due to injury. Not exactly a farewell ending to their careers that they probably had hoped for.

Ill always remember how in the later innings of the clinching game 4 of the World Series, that it was reported that AROD had opted out of his contract and become a free agent, thus making him the story during the game and after the game, instead of the RSOX winning another World Series. Yankees said that if AROD opted out of his contract, that they would not re-sign him and move on from him. Everyone in the Yankees front office was on board with this decision, except for one of the son of George Steinbreinner, Hank. According to reports, the Yankees were prepared to offer AROD a four year extension after his current contract ended, and had hoped to meet with A-Rod to present the offer. But AROD opted out of his contract instead, and thus this talk never happened. Rumors were that the Cubs (to be reunited with Lou Pinella) and the Marlins (which is where AROD lives) were the only teams interested in signing AROD when he opted out. Yes, the cost-cutting-Marlins. But the happiest team to know that AROD opted-out of his contract = The Texas Rangers. The Rangers were paying the Yankees like 10 million per season for the duration of AROD’s current contract from 2004-2010, but now that he opted out, the Rangers are off the hook for 2008-2009-2010
The reason A-Rod opted out what that he had 10 days until the end of the WS to make his decision. By then, he'd not know if either Pettitte, Posada and/or Mariano Rivera would return. A-Rod was also unsure how the ownership transition would play out as the Boss handed control of the Yankees over to his two sons: Hank and Hal. Plus, the firing of Joe Torre may have played a part. And in actuality, the Rangers paid $7M to the Yankees each year and thus, Texas was saved $21M over the final three years of the deal. In the end, no one went anywhere. Andy, Jorge, Mo and incredibly, A-Rod would resign new contracts to stay in pinstripes.
04 had the benefit of being the massive culmination of 86 years of failure and folly and bucky f'n dent and bill f'n buckner and Aaron f'n boone and it felt special. 07 had none of that. 4 games of an overmatched and over-rested Rockies getting well....*ROCKED* by the Sox and while it was awesome for the Sox to win and kick off a pretty darn good 12 month stretch in Boston sports (save for Eli and Tyree)...this series is boring as all hell. No drama, no dramatics, nothing...just a 4 game beatdown.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 It's kind of ironic since 2007 was the tightest-contested regular season in recent history--only a 30 game difference between 1st & last place in the majors--Red Sox were best with 96 wins, Devil Rays worst with 66.
With Pedroia hitting a leadoff homerun in game 2, we had a total of 5 lead-off-home-runs this 2007 postseason: - Johnny Damon game 1 in Cleveland - Jimmy Rollins game 2 in Philly against the Rockies - Chris Young of Arizona in game 3 in Wrigley - Grady Seizemore game 4 in Yankee Stadium - Dustin Pedroia in game 1 of the World Series
For the fourth consecutive World Series, the World Series ends early in either a 4-game-sweep or a quick 5-games-exit, and three of the last four World Series have been sweeps. Another baseball season has come to an end. Thank you SW561 for bringing us another exciting season of the world's greatest sport.
The old days when the Red Sox and Patriots used to simultaneously dominate every fall in Boston.

Mike Lowell ended up signing a three-year deal to stay with the Red Sox and spent the rest of his career in Boston, retiring after the 2010 season.
