      Concrete is surprisingly brittle when not reinforced. Participated in a martial arts retreat where (among other things) learned how to break pavers with our hands (wearing gloves). It's not trivial, but it is not outrageous like brunt clay bricks are. We broke several cinder blocks being used as tables when trying brick breaking.
      The axe shape is actually fairly decent for the purpose (other than ruining the blade), as it concentrates the impulse in a small area. It's mostly a matter of the supports not bending before the concrete yields.

  • @sherlokderp9730
    @sherlokderp9730 11 месяцев назад +88

    I’m honestly shocked that the axe held up so well. I was expecting it to do what most other retractable things do and just bend like crazy because it has no structural integrity, but oh boy. You need to do a colab with shadiversity, he could probably find a test to break it.

      I get a lot of motivation from engineering channels too, they have helped me a lot through the years to boost my motivation and keep alive my sense of wonder and curiosity. But I have to say that therapy has been extremely important too. The pandemic, isolation and loss of a few loved ones left me burnt out and depressed. If you have a good therapist, therapy is worth it. But you have to time it: when you get to the bottom of things, it stirs up a lot of feelings and it can be hard to go through that. Many people give up therapy at that point. But if you have a good connection with your therapist, you can work with them to build up strength and improve your habits and then you will find the moment to tackle those issues with their guide. It will still be a struggle, but you will get to the other side better than before, and finally free from things that have dragged do down for years. In 16 months, I have been able to retake control of my life and accomplish more than I did in the previous two years. I still have a long way to go, and there are still ups and downs, but I'm in a much, much better place than I was before I started therapy, and it enabled me to go through some terrible things that happened last year without suffering a bad relapse. Don't give up! The key is finding a good fit, someone with experience, but also with modern training, someone you can build rapport with. In my case, a young neuropsychologist was the one who made a difference.

    I feel like cross braces and force transfer could evolve this design a ton. Like, snapping in additional braces when it expands, that transfer force from hits along the whole thing instead of 2 pieces per blade.
    Maybe some experimental designs could be fun too, like an axe that unfolds into a 270° circle from the top, springs vs hydraulics vs muscle expansion, that kinda stuff.

      So basically have a really cool set of collapsible switchaxes that unfold in different ways, and end up looking like different types of axes and also some new types of axes. This is something that I feel would be really cool and I want to try making this like that, but also I need to get better at cad to design things like that.
