  • In this episode, we check out the Hummingbird Repeat Percussions Tremolo by EarthQuaker Devices. The Hummingbird is a choppy, sawtooth tremolo modeled on the vintage “repeat percussion” unit and similar to those found in old Valco and Vox amplifiers. It is capable of producing everything from classic “50’s style” shimmering tremolo to a synthy, delay-like chop that turns your signal into a burst of short pings and on through to near ring modulation speeds. The hummingbird is very cool on its own, but when you pair it with an overdrive or fuzz it becomes unreal!

That crazy thing it does with a fuzz. The feedback you get if you let it ring is pretty sick.

Best Tremolo heard. Also as per their phaser Grand Orbiter.

We were checking out their other tremolo pedal the other night. The Night Wire Harmonic Tremolo... oh my, that one looks crazy good too!

I had to play the intro a couple extra times. The Zoom Lens is a powerful cinematographic tool.

Thanks for noticing. I’ve been working on the intros. It changes a little in some of the upcoming videos.

So the mode is basically a subdivision switch that goes from quarter to eighth to sixteenths, right? And the speed knob starts at the fastest setting from the previous mode - so the lowest speed in mode II is the fastest speed on mode I...
I think this is an excellent “basic” tremolo without the bells and whistles like harmonic tremolo and waveforms, but that just works fine. I have been looking for an alternative to the MXR tremolo (big pedal that runs on 18v or 24v or whatever), and I think the Hummingbird is an excellent option!
Thank you guys, I would not have considered it if it wasn’t for this demo. And I love the series concept you have going. I know it is a tremendous amount of time you spend on this, and I really appreciate it.
    Greetings from Germany!

Dankeschön! I think you summed it up right. I can't remember if there is some overlap between modes or not though. Thanks for the kind words on the series. It is some work, but what fun to get to try out so many great pedals!
