  • This unique instrument became one of my favorites ever. I love how it sounds and designed and all the philosophy behind it. It is one of the instruments that inspire. One can spend hours playing and exploring Terra and don’t get bored. Every time I sit and play it something new comes to life - a rhythm, a melody or a complete piece of music.
    This is an instrument with a relatively simple learning curve that leaves huge space for mastering your playing technique. Since Terra is a new instrument (the production started in 2022) there are no established performance techniques - all Terra player invent and adopt something new and it’s an exciting feeling of belonging to the process.
    I develop my fingering for different scales; learn chords in these scales and this is much like mastering any other instrument. Personally I find this process very important - this is how we build connections with the instrument and gain ability of expression our musical ideas.

      This is one of my intentions - to make an album played only with Terra - I wish it had more controllable FX section!.. then I would not even need external effects

      Thank you for the response! Yes, it comes back to Latin and that's where all words in other languages like "territory", "terrasse" come from

    I've only spent a little bit of time on the Terra, but I agree......it's endlessly inspiring...................this is a wonderful upload........Question: are you using external effects?..............(I love that last shot, through the flowers)

      Thanks, Will! No, I just used the inner delay. Unfortunately it has very limited functionality. No feedback control made me frozen - I just don't understand how could that come - no possibility to control the amount of the feedback... Frequencies cut filters would also be a very useful thing for FX section...

      Hopefully a future Firmware update will solve the problems, and perhaps add some more control to the effects.

      oh yeah... that would be a killer update, but I'm afraid they stuck with the limit of the hardware memory or adding this feature would lead to to rewriting the code - hardly they will do this..

    Nice. Im still exploring the Terra. May i ask - do you play other instruments like piano? Are you applying music theory when playing?

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  Месяц назад

      Hi. Well my piano playing skills are on the very basic level. I don't dig deep with the theory when playing. My approach to mastering Terra is training (muscle learning) gammas and chords in chromatic and major/minor scales. I've decided to start where everyone starts learning other instruments. Though engines exploration is also an important process, but it is more fun so I cannot call it "training".

      I'd like to add that since Terra is a new instrument with some absolutely new features like note triggers position, it's very interesting to find new techniques, fingerings, playing styles - there is no conventional approach to the instrument as it is with, lets say, piano - and every time I train Terra it feels like real exploration of some Terra Incognita never known before.

      @MikhailMedvedev thanks for the reply. Yes, lots to experiment with. Gliding finger between notes, long holds, striking - alternating gestures of notes vs modifiers.
      Do you apply your own musical scale to each patch? (As each patch has a different scale already applied)

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  Месяц назад +1

      I made several custom patches with the settings I like that has their own scales, but also I made three patches with chromatic, major and minor scales and I can easily grab these scales for any other patch on the fly. So, there is no need to save common scales for your patches, actually...

    does the terra loop sounds by itself?
