Thank you for being so open about the winding path you took, and the struggles that you've had to deal with. I also struggle with depression and anxiety, as well as ADHD, dyspraxia, dyscalculia... and, as I finally discovered for sure this year in my 40s, also autism. Like you, my plans for life didn't work out ever the way I planned... but you have to keep going, finding your way. Hang in there, Sam... Your channel and your work have made a huge difference in my life, and I'm sure many many others.

I'm going to make a list of all my thoughts if you don't mind.
    1. I loved hearing about your journey. Thank you for sharing this part of yourself with us.
    2. I notice that your Legolas hair is growing back in.
    3. The way you say "warm" is awesome. It's a bit of onomatopoeia because it actually SOUNDS warm. "Wahrm". I'm from metro NY so the way I say it sounds like My Cousin Vinny. "Wawhm". There's barely an r in it 🤣
    4. As someone who also battles with on/off depression and anxiety, it wahrms my heart to not only hear you speak openly about it but also to witness the positive atmosphere you consistently cultivate here on your channel. From the good will you encourage among us subscribers to the kind and encouraging way you analyze voices to seeing how great music affects you on such an emotional level and that you are willing to show that to us. All of this speaks to the hard work you have clearly done toward self improvement and making the world a better place.
    5. I hope someday your face is memorialized on a coin 🌟❤

Thank you for telling your story, very interesting! The reason why I keep watching your videos is your positive approach. You focus on what can get better instead of criticizing. I'm gonna tell my story, nobody will read it but I feel an urge to tell it anyway, good for the soul. When I grew up there was a lot of music at home, my father owned a record store but nobody played an instrument or sang themselves. My cousins did. They grew up with music, as in creating it yourself. Their father played the piano, they sang (a singing teacher refused to take on my oldest cousin since he didn't want to "destroy" anything). My aunt played the guitar and sang. Every holiday, we children, were supposed to perform. I always felt like the black sheep and it made me afraid of singing. So I quit doing it (even in the shower). As an adult I wanted to get rid of the fear, I like singing, and I started in a choir with the purpose of getting rid of the fear. The fear of letting others hear me sing. I was forced to get up on stage and sing Edelweiss and cried all the way through. Somebody said it was fascinating that I could be on pitch though crying. I would like to think that that cured me but it didn't. I married a jazz musician who wanted us to sing together while he played the piano - and I tried but it was too painful. He still thinks it's sad that I don't want to sing with him (his major instrument is tenor saxophone and his singing, technically isn't that good but at least it's not flat). It's sad. It feels like my childhood stole that from me, I like singing. It's just become a pressure to perform. That's why I like you Sam - you're never judging only talking about what could be better, more healthy for the voice.

I can honestly relate on the school situation.
I dropped out after a semester of college and got a ton of debt from it. It really bummed me out. But since RUclips is free I pushed myself to self teach to find more motivation in music. I appreciate your videos. I love that you analyze vocals and really explain into detail on what’s going to make it make sense.

Hey - your journey really resonates with me, and I am sure many others who went the Community College route because life (mental illness, family dysfunction, economic disparity, etc etc) got in the way. As an artist, I am so grateful that I had the time to explore and find myself by working and taking a plethora of classes of my own volition, but I also feel that there is a disparaging perception of those who choose to 'go back to school', or that Community College is for "failures". It's not, and I wish people wouldn't be so judgemental, and more importantly, that we wouldn't criticize and judge ourselves so harshly for not meeting our own expectations, as per the 'norm'. I definitely wouldn't be the person I am today, a person who can offer a different perspective and different strengths due to my experiences, if I hadn't taken my time to overcome life's obstacles. I still struggle to be patient with myself and this process. Your journey is inspiring and wishing you all the best.

I'm from South Africa and I used to take piano lessons 100yrs ago and way back then they even hit your knuckles when you didn't play your scales well enough. I used to sing in a church choir but one day I was told " you can't sing " it was a terrible blow. I gave up music and singing. I also suffered with depression etc. But one of my biggest regrets is I NEVER went back to it. How I wish I had a teacher who understood and could guide me.! Oh well 😥God bless and stay safe.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I think you're a brave person for reaching for the opportunities and taking the plunge not just once, but several times.
Your videos have shown me a different way to look at singing, in that it doesn't always have to perfect and that there is more than one set way to sing well and still be healthy. I did choir all through out middle and high school with voice lessons sprinkled in, and I've never had a teacher or vocal coach who has thought that way, so the expectations that I thought were standard in the singing world also became expectations I put on myself. I've been unfair to myself and even other singers.
I'm 31 now, but I wish I had someone back then tell me the things you say in your videos now. Thanks for being a kind person.

Thank you for sharing your journey. It was genuine and real and vulnerable. I respect you on a whole other level now. Congrats on getting where you are today and for understanding the struggle and the journey was all necessary for you to become who you are today.

Thank you for sharing your history!, I watch your videos because i practice my English listening and learn more about vocal techniques, I’m a deaf person and understand what are you talking about is so fantastic for me!, due to health problems I started singing lessons and has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Thank you for everything 😊.

I don't sing other then in a fun 'oh I like this song playing on the radio' kinda way and I dont plan on learning, and I'm absolutely never going to be a voice teacher, but I love your channel, and it was nice to see a more personal video, thank you for sharing 😊

All of us kick ourselves with something that could have been better. I got my bachelor degree too young, and I wasn't ready for it, now I'm 31 and going to start a new career all over again. I believe it's better to take your own time to really take in everything with more mature eyes... there's a lot of difference between a 20 years old mind to a 25 yo.

Really interesting to hear your story, thank you! I'd love if one day you could do a video on how to growl(and more importantly how to do it without damaging your voice) 😊

Just seeing this now, Sam. I understand the urge to get down on yourself for not completing education at the same rate as others in general but, like you, life experiences have molded us. Some people just have to wait until the right circumstances and opportunities present themselves

I have followed you for a while and you're already inspiring as it is, and to see this video is even better. I love your transparency. I can relate to some things taking a little longer than "normal". And that's ok! Everyone needs a little Sam in their lives! 🤗❤
