People LOOOOVE Uta. Like, she is _still_ getting merch alongside the main cast, despite being a one-off movie character with only implied canon roots. And I am still buying it all.
Nami's backstory beyond what we already know is not something I need, but I also wouldn't be opposed to seeing her full backstory AFTER the main story is completed (along with any other important characters whose backstories have been left partially, or completely, blank). We have enough of her backstory to understand and connect to her as a character already, so anything else is more like expanded lore, and not really completely necessary to the story itself reaching a satisfying conclusion.
Strong World was and still is my favorite OP movie, it reminded me of Skypia and that's my favorite arc + That Green and white striped outfit of Robin is peak 👌🏻
I can understand how Nami getting Emotionally Traumatizing Backstory The Second wouldn't be worth it. Especially if it ended up undermining her talents by pinning them on lineage. I think that's at least part of what Oda was reffering to with characters being crushed by the story. Strong World did do a good job cementing that what Nami does is insanely impressive and goes beyond just having studied a lot.
Oda has to expalin Nami's ability, so I really hope thaw we would eventually learn about her past. She is seen on a cover page next to a missing child sign. That could indicate a deeper mystery.
I’ve never even considered the possibility of Oda NOT revealing Nami’s origin… 😱 To me it has always been clear that we will eventually find out why Nami has this unique talent of feeling the weather. Also, Nami doesn’t have a family name even though she was adopted by Bellemere. To me that has always indicated that we will find out more about her biological parents. Especially after WCI, where Sanji got another backstory arc and his family name was revealed. Nami is Oda’s favourite female character. I just can’t imagine he won’t give us more details about Nami. I really hope you’re wrong. 😢
The best way for the reveal of the "Missing Backstorys" would be Something along the lines of a movie Trilogie with multiple Boss Level enemys. One enemys for example could be a dream dream fruit User which was among the people responsible for the oykot Kingdoms fall. And him targeting Nami would be cuz he hates leaving behind unfinished Business. Just an Idee
The crew for sure isn't a bunch of random people, if we think about it all of them are prodigies or aiming to be the very best at their respective area of interest (or both), Chopper is a doctor who wants to cure every disease, Robin is the greatest living archaeologist in the word, the literal key to the secrets of the world, Brook is so good at music he can literally move souls with it xDand so on and so forth, they are all top class.
Ok I’m gona make a better joke: An American, Jew and Arab walk in a bar, the jew gets blown by the American then the Arab blows the American, two of the three cam and the American wasn’t one of those two
LIAM! You should cover the theory of Nami being part of a family or group pf people who made maps. Kind of like Robin but the family is pretty significant. I forgot who on RUclips covered it but its pretty interesting and kind of make sense because Oda LOVES Nami, she has to be special somehow in the One Piece world
In a What If timeline where Arlong and his crew never showed up at Conomi Island, would Nami join the Marines just like her surrogate mom Belle-mere or join Luffy to be his navigator regardless when she is busy trying to map around the East Blue and ran into him?
@@vincenthammons-kd9du The only reason Nami don't like Marines is because Nezumi the guy in a cap with rat ear accessory who's in cahoots with Arlong and ensured no one interferes with his little empire building. If anything in a What If timeline, she'd end up working with Captain Smoker and his second in command Tashigi, or even Vice-Admiral Garp who sometimes visit East Blue at his leisure.
She's always wanted to map the world and even as a child was shown stealing so I'm not sure the marines would be the best place for her. Then again, I guess everyone grows up, maybe she could've eventually seen joining the marines as a way to see the world, maybe she only stole because she was poor and not also because she was good at it/liked it?
I was convinced that Nami was a lost daughter of Big Mom, that's why she hit it off so well with Lola and why she was told to seek out Big Mom if she ever ran into trouble in the New World, narratively.
I get why you think that Oda doesn't want to tell the story, but I think the reason he didn't make the Crystal Ship was cause Nami's back story is going to be pivotal to the final war with the world gov. My current on-going theory is that the Oykot Kingdom, the final destination of tequila wolf, is one of the original 20 kingdoms and that Nami's last name cooooould be "Nerona"

I do kind of feel robbed of not knowing Nami's full story but oh well. I'm a little shocked to hear Strong World isn't well loved as it was my favorite One Piece film by far until Red came out and blew everything else away. Z, Gold and Stampede are all fine but Strong World just felt like a proper One Piece story because Oda wrote it. I struggle to see anything topping Red at this point though; holy shit was Uta's story so good.
The way Oda talks about it, it sounds like he didn't enjoy making the story at the time. Maybe he didn't like the way the story was building up, too. He also prefers making stories that make the audience smile.
@@mrknight221 I don’t think that if there was ever additional info on Nami’s backstory that it showed up as an entire arc. Instead what we got with Zoro during wano with the sword smith that lived in the village.
I always thought that she was the child of Charlotte Gala, the only son of Linlin who we never see, and a daughter of Whitebeard, who left with her mother for the quiet life in East Blue. She treats her crew violently for the slightest mistakes, like Linlin, but she has Whitebeard’s loyalty and love for family.
It is still possible that we'll see that backstory someday. After all we assumed Sanji didn't care about his family either until it was written into the story. But it is also possible that her story was simply given to another character instead. I doubt we'll ever know for sure but one thing we can count on is that there will be more tears down the line whether her full story is explained or not.
Nami being shiki`s daughter might not be as farteched as it may seem especially when we know that shiki is known as "golden lion", Oda said nami would be swedish in real life, and golden lion is a national symbol of Sweden especially of the royal family
I remember around the time Strong World came out, Sabaody was also coming out, and there was a theory that Nami and X Drake were long lost siblings. That's still one I wonder about from time to time, bc you'd get interesting parallels with being unwilling members of pirate crews trying to take them down from the inside and whatnot. But I think it's unlikely we'll get a real backstory for her this late in the story.
Unless it’s in the manga and has relevance to the story at that moment, I honestly don’t want to know her past or who her real parents are. There should be some mystery to the characters. We don’t want a Star Wars situation where everyone is somehow connected to each other or to some crazy legendary pirate crew. It would make the world of One Piece seem smaller. He might someday give her backstory in an SBS like he did for Zoro and that would be good enough for me.
GLR. I have a theory about Nami's homeland, Oykot. Being a island of Witches 🧹🧙♀️ who specialize in weather phenomenon. Plus, Nami being a part of it's royalty. Evidence: • Cocoyashi Village labelled Nami as a Witch. Even by Nojiko. • Manga covers have hinted Nami's supposed royalty. Like with the 'Queen is Franky's Father.' theory. • Nami could have British connections. As she was used a lot during the Wholecake Island arc. Because I think that the Big Mom pirates are based off the British Royal Victorian family pre WW1. Plus, the Island itself was based around fairy tales. And the witch hunts are from Britain. I know this because I'm both British, and a history lover. • Pre time skip, while Nami was on Weatheria. There was no women among it's population. Plus, there is no known history about the sky island's origin. Maybe it came from the East Blue. And possibly, if the women from their were enslaved or killed. Just like in the witch hunts.
I for one wish they would have more Canon material in the movies. My biggest example is that it would've been great if film red was just about shanks' crew, the films plot happens as is but minus the strawhats. It gives us an opportunity to explore the red haired pirates and the post credit scene could've been showing luffy fighting kaido on the rooftop showing that this is what shanks was doing and showed up to wano to tell luffy about Uta.
I have my own theory. Nami is actually a giant but born human size.Similar to big mom being basically a giant born from humans. So they abandoned her in a human village/town to be raised. As they would of have trouble raising such a small person or cause I what happened with with big Mon long ago they no longer allow humans to be raised in elbaph.
After the whole Queen and Franky connection i won't be surprise he will reveal Nami's true heritage. He was giving hints especially her knowledge on weather
We got 2 levels of Sanji backstory, one for the time he joined Zeff and another for his time with his family. But by the time Sanji joined Zeff he was a bigger boy, while Nami was adopted as a baby. There is not much she could do before that. We do have some room to dive deeper into Brook and Jimbei's backstories, which I would like to see more of. Maybe even Franky. I feel like Robin, Chopper, Nami, Luffy, Usopp, and Zoro already had enough of their pasts revealed.
It would have been interesting if Shiki alongside Kaido and Whitebeard where the original foes of the Marineford arc makes the war the stuff of legends.
If I had to speculate, I'd say that maybe Oda planned to make Shiki Nami's father, and her mother left Shiki while she was pregnant with Nami because of some scheme she discovered that Shiki had cooked up using her and/or Nami due to some connection they (or their bloodline) had to this crystal ship. She tried to hide from Shiki in the East Blue, but Shiki pursued her, killed her when he found her in the Oykot Kingdom, but caused a lot of collateral damage in the process. Maybe since this was arlund the time of Roger's execution, you can maybe have Shanks there at the time, and have the two clash in addition having a lot marines being massacred in the crossfire. Which cpuld explain Bellamare's losing her will to live as a marine and pursue justice, as she would have just seen two of the strongest pirates in the world wipe our a town just from fighting one another. Like, imagine how an average marine would feel if they'd personally witnessed the fight betwen Luffy and Kaido. Maybe Nojiko would be dragged back into the story and this knowledge that Nami's birth family were the reason Nojiko's birth family died would have created a rift between them in the story (as Nojiko is actually old enough that she might remember her original parents and actually still love them and mourn their loss), and this would lead to Nami being put in an even more hopeless and depressing position than she was in Strong World, as she would now believe her sister hates her, or if Nojiko isn't there, Nami would at least believe that Nojiko has reason to hate her. She would know that the blood of one of the world's worst pirates runs through her, which would also mess with her head because of her initial hatred of pirates. And she would believe that the only way she can protect her friends is to abandon them and go along with whatever Shiki wants.
Strong World is my favorite film from OP, mostly because of the setting and the fact that we get so much lore from Shiki, and everyone who knew him (and episode/chapter 0). Having Nami at the center is fun too, since I love her, but now I'm wondering how much Oda had planned for a film about her.
What if Nami is just another child of Big Mom hmmm? Man on the internet, while grasping at straws, you dropped one. Don't worry i found it on the floor. Here you go.
Knowing Oda, he will reveal Nami to be royalty all along similarly like Sanji who's from Germa 66. She always acts like a queen and the one who keeps Luffy in line.
I think we should at least know who her parents were. Lineage is important in stories because it plays an important role in the character, whether they care or not. Ex. Zorro's swordskills, Chopper being a reindeer, Sanji's personality and fighting skills, Robin's knowledge, Luffy being Luffy, etc. Nami had to have been predisposed to the ability to know the weather other than Bellimare, somehow teaching her about it along with marine navigation and map drawing. So, unless Oda says she learned it all from her adopted mother, we won't know who Nami really is until he at least gives us the reason for the destruction of her birthplace like he did Robin's or gives her parents names and classes.
I remember being in a conversation over a decade ago on a different YT channel about Pokemon movies, and I pointed out that they seem to grade the ones with death as the best ones. Aparently they actually did it unconsiously. However, I still hold the position that forced death, or any forced drama does not make a good storytelling, it's just creates false pathos, and I get the impression that Oda feels the same. One Piece is known for how few deaths occur, but all of them are earned and meaningful.
Nami's biological history doesn't matter in the long run but the fact that Oda came up with lore for her backstory makes me curious if it had the script writers crying. I mean, nobody has a happy childhood in that series, so if it had that reaction I am really curious.
If Nami is a Celestial Dragon, that will be the plot twist of the Final Saga. I think Her name is Ami. The N standing for Nerona. Also, I think Imu might be female & a doppelganger of Nami. Which will be huge in the final battle.
Nah the one that's going to be the celestial dragon and be related to imu is going to be luffy. The kanji for Nerona is even the same as it is for God and luffy is the Sun God, and "Nero" means black which might imply that the Neronas are going to be black haired
There's not enough theories looking into the link between nami and big mom. 1) she has the strongest haki on the crew. 2) when holding big moms vivre card she can control the homies. 3) big mom is known to kill her partners and children if she is unhappy or unfull.

@@DarkBlackGod14 Uh, that wasn't my point at all, though? My point was that he wouldn't do it NOW because he wouldn't be able to wring the emotion for all it's worth with all the characters so far apart and impossible to bring together reasonably...?
I have always been convinced that Nami will related to Imu. Between Umi meaning sea and Nami meaning waves it seems too perfect.
Especially with a crystal ship being exactly what a Celestial Dragon would use.
That's stretching it further than Luffy's limbs could ever do

But Nami wasn't originally named Nami. She was a baby who didn't know her name. It's likely Bellemere named her Nami.
@Marzi29 sure, that's true in the universe. That doesn't make the narrative connection any less substantial
People LOOOOVE Uta. Like, she is _still_ getting merch alongside the main cast, despite being a one-off movie character with only implied canon roots. And I am still buying it all.
based fellow uta enjoyer.
Strong World was and still is my favorite OP movie, it reminded me of Skypia and that's my favorite arc
+ That Green and white striped outfit of Robin is peak 👌🏻
I can understand how Nami getting Emotionally Traumatizing Backstory The Second wouldn't be worth it. Especially if it ended up undermining her talents by pinning them on lineage. I think that's at least part of what Oda was reffering to with characters being crushed by the story. Strong World did do a good job cementing that what Nami does is insanely impressive and goes beyond just having studied a lot.
13:00 Maybe it would be more a Nojiko backstory then?

Oda has to expalin Nami's ability, so I really hope thaw we would eventually learn about her past.
She is seen on a cover page next to a missing child sign. That could indicate a deeper mystery.
I’ve never even considered the possibility of Oda NOT revealing Nami’s origin… 😱
To me it has always been clear that we will eventually find out why Nami has this unique talent of feeling the weather.

In a What If timeline where Arlong and his crew never showed up at Conomi Island, would Nami join the Marines just like her surrogate mom Belle-mere or join Luffy to be his navigator regardless when she is busy trying to map around the East Blue and ran into him?
Nami as a marines makes no sense in any time line it goes against her character lol

I get why you think that Oda doesn't want to tell the story, but I think the reason he didn't make the Crystal Ship was cause Nami's back story is going to be pivotal to the final war with the world gov.
My current on-going theory is that the Oykot Kingdom, the final destination of tequila wolf, is one of the original 20 kingdoms and that Nami's last name cooooould be "Nerona"
nah I think that nami is just going to be from a kingdom whose people were known for being exceptionally good navigators and at reading the weather thus they were targeted by the world government, and maybe nami might be a descendant of that kingdom`s monarchy.
While I think that the one that could be the Nerona might actually be luffy. I think luffy might be the one that shares lieneage to the celestial dragons and possibly even imu
That would be a plot twist worthy of oda

I think Nami is perfectly fine without a backstory. We already have one with Arlong Park.

@@mrknight221 I don’t think that if there was ever additional info on Nami’s backstory that it showed up as an entire arc. Instead what we got with Zoro during wano with the sword smith that lived in the village.
not everyone needs a sad backstory
in fact if everyone has one, its not special anymore, its the new normal
I can't remember if Liam's already done that, but a critique and ranking of the movies would be fun
Out of all the fascinating things in the show, it is called the one piece.
I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this, but what if Nami had Jack Sparrow's compass?
Nami D. Maps😂😂
Evidence:
• Cocoyashi Village labelled Nami as a Witch.
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤ Nami D. Maps 😂
Lol Nami D. Maps just fits so well. Imagine Weather D. Nami
Lmao even Dragon's monitor is to the east so he could still look that way.
"All straw hats have important family members"
Meanwhile my boy zoro parents 1 died to illness and one died fighting unknown pirate 😭🙏🏻
What if Nami is just another child of Big Mom hmmm? Man on the internet, while grasping at straws, you dropped one. Don't worry i found it on the floor. Here you go.
I think it's funny Zorro caught his great great Grampa reanimated. Then went home & turned over his heirloom.
Maybe he'll tell it at the very end as a side story, cause if the series has ended then it won't matter for the current story
Knowing Oda, he will reveal Nami to be royalty all along similarly like Sanji who's from Germa 66. She always acts like a queen and the one who keeps Luffy in line.
thats too obvious.
Whole cake 2.0 in the op climax, gtfo man.
All I want from Nami is her surname. Whether it be from Bellemere's or whatever her biological parents had
Wow I never knew any of this, I always had the fan idea that Nami was originally from Amazon Lily.
Nami's biological history doesn't matter in the long run but the fact that Oda came up with lore for her backstory makes me curious if it had the script writers crying. I mean, nobody has a happy childhood in that series, so if it had that reaction I am really curious.
Lmfao!! Big mom out here lookin' like Endive from Chowder.

If Nami is a Celestial Dragon, that will be the plot twist of the Final Saga. I think Her name is Ami. The N standing for Nerona. Also, I think Imu might be female & a doppelganger of Nami. Which will be huge in the final battle.
Yea no Nani is pirate
@@theproprod211 I'm just saying it would be a heck of a plot twist. There are theories saying she might be.
Nah the one that's going to be the celestial dragon and be related to imu is going to be luffy. The kanji for Nerona is even the same as it is for God and luffy is the Sun God, and "Nero" means black which might imply that the Neronas are going to be black haired
@sangasp2286 It's a possibility. A good one, too. I've seen people on reddit talk about it. Just saying.
