  • A basic over view of what you need to do to hook up a 240 volt heater. It's not a step by step. It's just a discussion of how I hooked mine up. Mine works, don't follow what I say and expect yours to work. Hire a professional to do the wiring, or you might die.

I hooked up the 10k watt dyna glo in my garage and it seems to be underpowered. The heat it’s pushing is really weak and doesn’t seem right. It’s fed with 6 gauge across the garage from the breaker and is about 45 feet of wire. Does that matter? Any ideas or suggestions. It’s putting out heat like a small space heater in the house 🤬

When you put a 2-pole breaker in the originating C/B box did you have to run a 2nd wire to the shop box?

How can I rewire my 220V DRHeater DR966 to get rid of the thermostat and circuit board? I just want it full blast anytime it’s plugged in. I’ve had it for years but now the electrical controls are broken. I only have it on when I’m in my shop.

There is no issue with heat on the sides and back. You can put your hands on the heater and it's cool to the touch. I absolutely love it. I have it on it's medium wattage 4000 watts. With the thermostat turned less than half way up it kept my 28x24 shop at 70 degrees even when it was 15 below outside.

I have a 7500W Dyna Glo EG7500DGC - No one shows how to connect the wiring inside the heater - the diagram in the booklet is inaccurate has only 2 connections and does not look like the terminals in the heater itself - I have 4 connections -1(L) AND 2(N) on one connection block and then same markings 1(L) and 2(N) on the other block so I have 4 terminals they stuck a label L1 - L2 next to one of the terminal blocks - so it looks like the (N) terminal must be the Neutral wire? - I am using 3core wire so red and black can be 110v so the neutral wire could be used on the (N) connections? Does that make sense? It is confusing - and tech support does no answer!

    • @AlrightWhatsNext

The wire going to the heater should have 3 wires in it. A bare copper one for ground a black and a white. On each side of the bottom of the heater there should be a green screw. That's for the ground wire, it's a 220 heater so there's no neutral, both white and black will have power 110 volts each. The heater is set up to run an external thermostat if you want. The instructions should say which terminals are for running an external thermostat and which ones are used for the heaters built in thermostat. Once that's determined then it's just hook the ground "bare copper wire" to the ground screw, and hook the white and black to the other 2 terminals, doesn't matter which one they both have power if your breaker box is wire correct. Make sure the switch on the back of the heater is switched to use the built in thermostat, on mine it was the "1" setting, then the heater should work. I would strongly suggest having a licensed electrician look at your wiring prior to turning the power on to make sure you don't start a fire and you meet code. I'm not an electrician so you shouldn't listen to me. I'm just a drunk guy making stupid videos

Its got to be a bad heater. if the fan is running it should be working. Mine keeps my shop very warm on medium setting. I liked it so much I put one in my basement. There was only one furnace vent down there and could get chilly.

How do u like this heater ? I have a 3 car garage/ man cave fully insulated and looking for something to heat it up and cool it in the summer. I was looking at dyi Costco 18000 btu Mr cool minisplit system which is $1600 but it has both ac/heating in one unit. I don't know which rout to go, get a heater dyna glow 15000 watts right now for $500 and buy something else for the summer time or just get the minisplit system?? I have a pool table in there and a gym:). I love in Clovis California in 9b zone I think or 9

I think a mini split's reason for being is aesthetics and convenience. You can get 7500 watts (220v) of heat for under two Benji's. A/C for a large room, 4 -5 hundred? Not discounting the value of convenience or looks. I'm just pointing out that there's an easy way to line-item-veto additional cost if one wants to.
Edit: the 7500 watt unit is rated at 25,590 BTU / 1,250 s. f. For reference, a detached garage might be 25x25 or 625 s.f. (I don't need AC cuz basement)

"The voltage coming in to your house is 120" WRONG! The voltage coming in to your house is 240V, and after installed into your service panel, is then distributed throughout your house at 120V, or in the case of some appliances, 240V.

Actually, they come in 480, then dropped down to 240 at the house and then 120 to your basic outlets and 220 to you bigger outlets, dryer, over, furnace, etc.
