- A couple of months ago, we hit rock bottom- as we shared with you, we almost broke up. Things were not good, but we decided to work on us. After two months apart, we are back together in Uganda and have made six changes in our relationship. We wanted to share these with you! 💪✨

Emilie and Josh.......From someone who has been with the same white guy for 52 years, married for 48 years, 7 months. the main thing is sticking together, you and Josh against the world. I'm originally from Jamaica and met a guy who was born in Germany to parents who thought Hitler was great. The main thing I learned, was giving then a chance to know me, my father in law said, our home was the only home he stayed at, my mother in law's, only advice was, if her son annoyed me, complain to her and not my relatives, because when you forgive, they won't....this went both ways. Josh, I don't believe any relationship is 50-50, when something has to be done, you do it or pretend you don't see it.😆Emilie, being a back seat driver is a must for us, 🤭My last and best advice, make sure relatives and friends know, your now 'first family' is...... You should do date nights for only two of you. Stop prioritizing everything else and not you. When two of u are happy everything will be fine
That's what we are going to try hard to do! We do have a date day planned for next month 🥰 but we are generally just trying to intentionally spend more time together doing day-to-day things also!

Hi Emily, I love Josh and all of your kids, as a woman, I really feel ashamed to tell you this publicly but please please think about your future. You need your own biological kids or kid. What if the relationship between you and Josh don’t work out, that means all the children maybe except Adam will go away with your relationship and you have nothing left, all this effort, time and financial you putting in this relationship and children can all ago suddenly and you will regret the time you lost. Please think about your self in the long run, I’m so sorry if I said anything to upset your family, it’s all good intentions. Open your eyes before it’s too late for you. ❤

It’s really refreshing to hear you as a couple be so open about what you’re working on in your relationship. All long-term couples could benefit from reflecting on what they could be doing differently so thank you for being so transparent! Can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to have people weighing in on your relationship all the time, but for what it’s worth you seem really in sync with one another. Best of luck going forward.
Thanks Alicia - people will always have their opinions & we know that, part and parcel of sharing our life online, although sometimes some words do sting! We were definitely stuck in a rut but are working hard to get out of it - and just wanted to share online our honest journey with it all!

Try to be adaptable with each others food. Ugandans put a lot of time in cooking and British cook their food very fast and easy.
Traditional English foods are not made quickly...it's just that a lot of this generation seem to eat junk food regularly .😢

Hi Emilie, Are you working from home? I think those changes you've made are going to improve your relationship. It's a bit complicated here, because all those changes you've mentioned apart from having a Home Help, other couples don't do. Ugandan couples never do things together apart from maybe going to church or visiting kids at school. They don't go walking, go to the Gym, outing etc. The women are always busy with their housework and a shame I actually don't know what the men do all day!!😂😂😂😂.

Yes! We have a load of board and card games but have struggled to actually sit down and use them. Dedicated family day - so no excuses!

My husband and I don't get the chance to go out together often. We do date nights in. Cook together, watch a movie, play games, relax and talk by the fire.

I think having help at home or using online shopping, extra childcare, online delivery etc. happens in Europe but it is hidden and not openly discussed.

I don't know if Josh wants this relationship or even pouring into Emily emotionally 100%.Emily occasionally fit in a corner where women are fed up and want to quit but can't because love is way stronger or loses her self whenever she emotionally quits.She is literally putting in a lot of effort to see it works. I hope am not looking at a wrong couple together.I would love to see Josh involved intentionally and emotionally available to be settled.

One thing as a couple that I guess you forgot to tell us 😂😂😂 though am not sure if you are Christians or not but if you believe in God , as a couple it’s good to Put God as a center in your home and pray together every day, me and my girlfriend we are in a long distance relationship for the past few years and we always have prayers on the call before going to bed 🛌, this helps us to have a spiritual connection with God as a couple and also we have learnt to communicate well throughout this process

Emily and Josh keep up the good work. Just a suggestion, I understand 90% of what Josh says. His accent is sometimes very strong. Maybe you can put a caption in English when he speaks and a caption in Uganda when you speak. This way everyone can follow. Just a suggestion. 😊
We did try to do this for a while but it could take me 5+ hours per video to do it manually, so it was just not sustainable! There are auto captions on RUclips already you can turn on, they aren't perfect but they do an okay job of captioning what we say accurately!

Yes and good idea of getting the maid BUT KIDS SHOULD HELP OUT WITH HOUSE CHORES TOO. YOUR HOUSE HOLD IS BIG LOTS OF HOUSE WORK SO THAT WILL BE TOO MUCH FOR THE MAID.
They do generally help out with little bits around the house - and we are working on them taking over a lot more of their own jobs such as putting away their own laundry - but it's a learning process for all! We've also assigned them each a job to do to help each evening which will rotate: sweeping/washing up etc.
If you done a love language quiz- it can be enlightening.
My hubby does most of the cooking too.

We are happy that you are trying to make it work. Emily just to advise you there you really need to learn to cook for your man it’s that important for an Africa man even if he does not complain about it he still wishes you could. Such unmet desires can be detrimental to your relationship

its nice to see you guys together and making all those changes to make your family happy.my advice is josh concentrate on your family and not extended.family is home,please get land and build family home so your family has a sense of belonging than renting.when you buy family assert like a car please make it for family and not friends.emily is such a wonderful woman make her enjoy family life
While we'd love this and don't enjoy renting - we just are not in a position to spend money building at this point in time!
